Oh man, the scene where he drops the orange and she picks it up... had me in tears. This game is going to be so innovative.

The only scene that tops that is the one where that guy is helping to fix the other guy's tie. What an interesting game.

I've always been wondering what was missing from gaming, and now I know what it is. This isn't just innovation, it's a revolution.

Now, before I go on missions, I'm going to decide whether I want to wear the red boots or the green boots with the strap on the top. Or maybe, I'm feeling a little smelly so I'll take a shower before I find the bastard who took my son. Forget rushing, I'm gonna have a glass of wine and try on different earrings.

Awesome is the only word that can describe this game. The developers really look like they thought about what makes a game great. When a character steps out of the shower, the player should have the challenge of drying the character off with a towel. Yes, I can see it now. Rave reviews. This game does something no other does. Screw Halo. I don't want to kill aliens. Screw Assassin's Creed. I don't want to climb buildings and assassinate people. Instead, I want to see if I can pour just the right amount of cereal into a bowl.

Such suspense in the gameplay, too. Will I pour too much cereal and get some on the counter and be forced to clean up the mess, or will I pour not enough and have too much milk, and thus, soggy cereal? Man, this game has got me all excited.

WOW. This is one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a game. People who say Heavy Rain is an interactive movie make that seem like a bad thing. This game is on a whole other level story wise, and based on pure realism than any other game out there. PS3 gamers go out and buy this game NEW, even if it's not to your liking (trade it in afterwards). We need this kind of game to succeed, because QD has taken a huge chance making a Mature game for adults rather than a Mature game based off how mus blood you can spill, and I for on want more games like this.

Note) I'm not saying Heavy Rain will be anywhere near as deep or moving as Citizen Kane or Taxi driver. I think it will be a game with a slightly above average (for the gaming world) story which still contains a ton of cliches and shallow writing but very innovative and daring gameplay that will hopefully move the industry forward a little so that not every game gets torn apart for lacking tentacle monsters and space marines just like not every film is torn apart for those reasons today.

Heavy Rain has been, and remains to be a day one buy for me.

I do find it slightly sad that people are more interested in nudity than the actual game though. I've wanted this game ever since the first gameplay demonstration (The Taxidermist).

It seems odd to me that a majority of the comments on this post are about the two seconds that Madison's breasts are on screen. It's just sad because you know there are going to be people who will buy this game just because of the nudity in it.

The music is a bit of a ripoff of the theme from Requiem for a Dream, specifically the orchestral version that I think was done just for the trailer for The Two Towers. The original music is probably been used in more movie trailers that just about any other piece of music. The music for the Hard Rain trailer seems to be changed just enough to keep them from getting sued over it though it would be nice if they went ahead and bought the rights to the real deal as it's awesome and sets the right mood.

Even with the ripped off music the trailer still rocks and hypes it up pretty well. The game should be truly epic and more of an experience than just a game. I hope this trend continues with PS3 games where the game is more a story you are immersed in and experience like you are part of it rather than just controlling light on a screen.

my best friend had his brother send it to him from Japan, and it arrived yesterday, so we spend a good 7+ hours playing it, and it is absolutely AMAZING.

i didn't expect to be as impressed as i was going in, but everything from the visuals, to the battle and level up system is fantastic.

i'm really impressed by the battle system, because just when you think you've got a handle on it, there's another addition to it. after 7 hours of play, we still hadn't even gotten to summoning yet.

it's extremely well paced in that regard, and the story seems interesting enough, if anything because the set pieces and cutscenes are so jaw-dropping (both in game and the CGI; the majority are in game, however) are so intense and epic that you can't help but imagine the story that goes along with it is also epic.

PS3 Owners: don't worry that the game has been gimped because it's multi-plat. i'm here to tell you from first hand experience with the JP version that the game:

1) Supports 1080p
2) Looks amazing (in particular the character models: environment textures aren't the best, but they aren't bad either)
3) The battle system is excellent
4) The level up system is very interesting (more like the license board in FFXII, i suppose)
5) There is no install
6) Load times are practically non-existent (outside of initially starting up the game and beginning it, and at the end of "chapters" there is usually a 5 or so second pause to ask if you want to save before beginning the next "chapter.")

ON TOPIC:

that trailer was amazing.

Heavy Rain, God of War 3, and now Final Fantasy XIII are my must have purchases for Quarter 1 2010. if WKC hits then also, i'll snag that one too (i also imported the JP version, and it is also quite awesome).

those trying to downplay Heavy Rain: stop being assholes. if you played Indigo Prophecy or are over the age of 18, you'd probably understand why the majority of us are excited for this game.

believe me, if it was multi-plat, i'd still be psyched for it, because Indigo Prophecy was such a fantastic and unique experience, and Heavy Rain looks like it's taken what Quantic Dream learned from the development of IP, and really took it to the nines.

just because this game doesn't have copious amounts of blood, shooting, guts, and tits and ass (actually, it DOES have the T&A part, lol), doesn't make it any less of a compelling game.

if i actually listened to what people had to say about games like Heavenly Sword, Folklore, and Uncharted, i'd have missed out on some of the best games of 2007.

like i said before, after 7+ hours of FFXIII the other day, i am EXTREMELY excited to get my hands on it in March. at first, i was like, "i can wait to pick it up after March, i'm in no hurry." now, however, i'm afraid i'm going to have to buy it day one, right along with God of War 3.

the internet is full of non-stop negativity, and these people are some the hardest to please people in the world it seems.

if they think that FFXIII is "bad," then i can't imagine what they think of games like Turok, Legendary: The Box, and others which are genuinely sh*tty games in all areas (visuals, controls, level design, narrative, etc). there's just no pleasing some of the people on the internet (in particular the folks at Neogaf; i often wonder if they like games at all, considering how no game can possibly live up to their elitist, impossible standards)

any fan of RPGs should enjoy FFXIII. despite being in Japanese, me and my buddy were so surprised at how playable it was without a guide. it's a very intuitive game in that regard. we were only stuck on one part, but it didn't take us long to realize what we had to do, and we passed it soon after.

and just so i'm on topic: the visuals in Heavy Rain just keep improving every time i see it. i thought it looked fantastic before, and anything would have been a step up from Indigo Prophecy, but holy crap does it look amazing. i can't wait to see this thing running on my 40" 720p Samsung!

Obviously, you guys don't listen to much orchestral music. Clint Mansell's entire repertoire sounds like the overture from Requiem for a Dream. It's one of my favorite movies and scores.

However, Nick Ingman's been writing scores like this since before Clint Mansell even wrote for film.

Some say James Horner rips off John Williams, but we all know that's not true.

Games are not just for kids. QD understands this and should be applauded. Been gaming for a long time and with all the gratuitous violence in video games some sexual content only makes sense when making a game geared toward older gamers. I really hope this game does well so we see more mature games on store shelfs as well as spawn a new genre of games. There's supposed to be tons of different paths you can take in the game. Well, I guess decisions you can make would be a better way of putting it.

If they include trophies (not a matter of if anymore), they might spread them out to encourage people to play through different routes, and hey, I don't think people will do so because of the trophies. From the trailer, the game still uses at lot of story branch by selecting different choices.

Hopefully Heavy Rain will prove a great adventure game doesn't need to be a shooter. Even Uncharted is still partly adventure/shooter game.

Uncharted didn't have to be a shooter i agree but it wasn't bad because of it.

Yeah it is probably that scene.I read a preview somewhere where the guy played that scene and said he tried to run to the phone and call the cops, which didn't work, and he tried to make a break for the door, also didn't work.

All I can say is that for me this game was day one since day one. That is, since I first heard about this game I knew that it was going to be revolutionary, and more than any other trailer I've seen, I feel like this is proof. That's right, since the first technical demo with the woman in the kitchen crying, I knew. There was a recent article about how "heavy rain might be a heavy fail" and a number of people posted negative comments to that about how they weren't sure about it. This trailer puts those people to shame. I normally would not claim that a game is coming out in february would be game of the year simply because everyone else has a good 9 months to perfect their games and to rip it off, but this game is, should, no... must be game of the year 2010. If it's not, I think I may give up on the gaming media altogether. Better than God of War, better than Halo, better than FFXIII, better than SC:C, better than GT5, better than Alan Wake. Obviously, I only listed those games because I know that they are going to be great, but I just have a feeling that this is going to be greater, precisely because it's more than just a game. In fact, I think it may be unfair to compare other games to it for exactly that reason, this is going to be more than just a game. It's not a game, it's an artificial reality.

Also... Yes, it's the same song as Requiem for a Dream, this isn't the first time someone has reused music in a film or a game so get over yourselves. The song in this game which is called "Lux Aeterna" has been remade for LOTR, The Davinci Code, 300, Sunshine and even the crappy kids film Zathura. People reuse Beethoven's fifth all the time, you don't hear anyone complaining because it's a classic. This is a modern classic, and it's appropriate that it is used in a game that not only has a tone somewhat similar to the film it was originally produced for, but for a game that will itself most certainly be a modern classic.

Finally, I appreciate the fact that this may be the first game to use nudity in a way that is not simply a gimmick. Obviously they put it in the trailer as a draw and as a warning. Truth is, this game is going to deal with murder, rape, abuse, and probably pedophilia. It is not for children, and from what I can tell it may not even be for many of the people who visit this site, because they can't seem to tell that the tits aren't there just for you to gawk at, they're there because nudity symbolizes vulnerability, honesty and openness, and with any luck this game may open you to yourself.

If you've played Indigo prophecy you would know how much gameplay there really is.

For example, you move the character at all times.You have full control.
You choose where to go, what to do etc.You don't just sit there watching a cut-scene, there not even cut-scenes, it's all real time gameplay.It just looks like a cutscene because of how the cameras are placed.

It's much more than a QTE interactive movie.

Wow - this trailer really shows off how detailed the character models are (clothed or not). While I'm not going to say it looks "real," it does remind me a bit of the slightly-digitized visuals of real people in "A Scanner Darkly." This is a testament to how hard this team has been working.

I'll buy this day one, not because of Indigo Prophecy, but because of the promise of Indigo Prophecy. The first hour of that game was genius, but after that it quickly devolved into a ridiculous supernatural thriller.

I'm hoping they've learnt from that, but I'm nervous because this game is already cliched. Serial killers? A child lost in an accident? That weird ability the main character seems to have of conjuring objects out of thin air? "Shaaaaaauuuuun!"?

There's nothing new there. If this is a step forward then it may well only be an indicator of how very, very poor story telling is in games. If this was a movie it would be straight to DVD.

Still, I applaud the idea of taking a different approach, I've seen enough space marines, thank you very much.

Here's hoping that there's a game down the track with this adventurous spirit and the writing skills of someone like Charlie Kaufman. Then we might be onto something.

I guess I just don't understand the excitement surrounding this game. Sure the graphics are gorgeous, but the game play looks like it consists of a bunch of quick time events strung together. From what I've seen this game is neither unique or refreshing; in fact it reminds of Night Trap, and that game was terrible. Perhaps the story will be fantastic, but if the developer can't combine a great story with game play then it should be made into a movie. Perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions. I'll continue following the game, but I am definitely going to at least rent this game before I commit $60 to it.

Well Andy, First of all i do have a 42" LCD 1080p samsung that does the trick just fine for those bluray movies. I also have a dedicated sony bluray player besides my ps3 and second of all what the F^ck is the point of having a 7.1 system for gaming if very few titles support it?? For movies?? And it's not the same when you simulate 7.1 surround, it's not the real thing if it's not supported by the game.

All that stuff that you just pulled out of your ass sounds good but it really doesn't have that much use for gaming as you are making it seem. Enjoy your movies though, you'll get some good use of those blurays that do support real 7.1 surround and maybe if you have the right receiver you might even be impressed with the latest codecs such as DTSHD-Master, TrueHD, or PCM7.1 which aren't use in many games either.
