IGN: Gamer Decades: The 1980s

The eighties are described as the Golden Age in videogames, presumably on the back of the juggernaut Atari 2600's last hurrah, the arcade explosion that gave people games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, and the rise of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the back half of the decade. And there is no disputing that it remains a very special era. Great innovations came out of the eighties as thousands of minds tried to develop the Next Big Thing in this exciting new entertainment medium – things like the Vectrex and Dragon's Lair.
