Since the days of Mario and Bowser, the idea of progressing through a game in order to reach the epic battle against the final boss was standard. It was assumed that after hours of play, you would find yourself face-to-face with your arch-nemesis. Furthermore, even though the game took you endless nights to complete, the night when you finish off the final boss was sure to be the best. However, developers seem to be deviating from this blueprint.
