I shat my pants with blood when she said that. I like Halo as an action game/party game but for god's sake don't go saying things like that.

Well anyway. I'm looking foward to seeing some Halo Reach gameplay soon.

Also, anyone with a little bit of experience will know the gameplay will not look like that. Devs can easily use high-poly models and hi-res textures for in-engine cutscenes, but for the gameplay it's totally different. We've seen way too many of these "in-game" trailers that end up being nothing like the real thing.

Same Here. I like what I saw it's Wayyyy better than Halo 3 and it looked way more realistic. Improved Ingame Graphics is always a Win in my book. I was just dissapointed because the GT guy Over-hyped this Trailer.

That was said to be in engine and nothing close to that was in the final game.

Im mainly excited about this because I loved fighting the elites in halo 1. Fighting the brutes in halo 2/3 is stupid. Being friends with the arbiter is lame. So im excited about the new game/engine but im mostly excited about the return of the best part in halo, killing the elites.

Yeah but this certainly looked like it was done with in-game graphics this time but still, it still looked like THIS is what Halo3 should have been almost 3yrs ago and not what the exclusive Flag Ship title of the 360 should be looking like at the END of 2010.

The only thing hot about that trailer for anyone outside the halo fan bubble is the musical score. That's always been halo's strongest point.

I think some people are very poor judges of graphical fidelity.

Now, whether the graphics during actual gameplay hold up or not is another matter entirely. But the graphics seen in that video are outstanding.

1- Uncharted 2 looks better, Killzone 2 looks on par with it.

2- This is NOT in-game. It's just an in-engine cutscene with high-poly models. The gameplay won't look like that.

I really don't think this is the case so much this time.

That was indeed in-game graphics but the thing is, it was straight cut. No battle scenes, no particle effects shown etc and this was scripted cut-scene. What does that tell us? It tells us Halo Reach will not look as good as that during gameplay but it also tells us it'll look better than ODST... which, isn't really saying much tbh.

I believe that was in-game graphics but scripted and when you put it into actual gameplay, the graphics will take a definite hit.

However, anyone saying that this looks better than KZ2 needs to pluck out their eyes cause they serve no tangible function for you anymore. That doesn't even come close to the pre alpha that was shown of KZ2 in E3 2007.

You know, GREAT graphics add GREAT atmosphere to the game.
If great graphics wouldn`t matter, we would still be playing on PS2. The better graphics are, the better experience you will get(hint: Uncharted 2).

EDIT: You must be blind, sorry. But these graphics in many places rivals CGI.
Both Ico and SotC had great art style, but TLG looks better, not because of the design alone, but thanks to amazing graphics. Otherwise, it would look same.

-This thread has proven one thing: there are a lot of blind gamers on the PS3 side. Then again they aren't seeing with their eyes, but through their fanboy goggles. This video was stunning and everybody that isn't an extreme fanboy of one console knows it. If the gameplay graphics look anywhere close to the graphics in this video Halo Reach will look better than Killzone 2. Killzone 2 is a nice looking game and currently one of the best, but it has its own areas of weakness. The textures for one thing are average in most places and downright poor in some. The lighting engine in general is good, but shadow maps are pretty low res and you see a lot of jaggies in the shadows. All in all Killzone 2 is a nice looking game, but is still somewhat overrated by some people.

I'm very skeptic about that being all in-game engine that will be used with the gameplay of the final release of the game. Some of that looked too nice compared to what other people have been able to do with the console to be what we'll see when actively playing the game rather than just cut scenes.

cgi: this is outsourced prerendered material usually used for cutscnes and movies, poly counts are well off the charts and beyond sensible hope of in games,also texture and time constraints ae less of an issue so they can use high res textures and maps and limit normal mapping examples, rise of legends intro movie, wow intros.

in engine: this uses the rendering engine of the game along with the physics to actually render the product, its still prerendered nad stored as a film file,model counts and lighting and textures are not ingame assets and are usually the original high poly models used for making normal maps,
so quality and such is much higher then in game

examples:killzone 2 intro uncharted uc2

gameplay: this uses only the models and textures the game or renders it in realtime via scripted events

examples, assasins creed 2 cutscenes ghostbusters
this give a notacible difference in quality

In regards to any comparison to KZ2, pretty sure jalen247 is talking about on-screen action. The "D-Day" scene that even Halo 3 had, to a point.

The armor looks great but the faces remind me of Fracture...not a complement. I was expecting more since they hyped this premier to death. I honestly think MW2, Batman AA and Mass Effect 2 look better. I was hoping Microsoft would really impress me and force me to go out and purchase a 360. Hopefully Microsoft will have something else for 2010 in terms of exclusives. But aleast Microsoft isn't short changing players in terms of visuals. Hopefully the game runs at 720p and is locked at 30fps.

Dude I am not biased. I will give credit where credit is due even though I prefer PS3. I was hoping for a more cinematic action packed trailer with action, explosions, etc. It seems Microsoft was more focused on showing off the visuals on the armor. If this game really impressed me, I have no issues with going out and purchasing a 360. I have nothing against Microsoft as a company. I actually like Microsoft as a company, I just don't like some of their decisions this generation in terms of the 360. And that is the only reason that I don't currently own a 360 yet.

In defense of Jalen, I love Halo and the visuals seen in this trailer are disappointing to me. Sorry, but Microsoft basically is funding this game up the wazoo, and I assumed Bungie was going to work harder on a visual showcase because that is what THEY said. While this game looks like a definite upgrade in terms of visuals, going by this trailer, there was nothing here that impressed me as much as Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2. Now, Killzone 2 uses only 60 percent of PS3's power, according to Guerrilla Games. So, even if we assumed that 360 was 40 percent less powerful than PS3, if Bungie was pushing the hardware to deliver the best graphics and effects available, we should be able to see Killzone-like graphics, and with Reach, we're not seeing that. At least, not in this trailer.

Bungie has a little less than a year to complete this game, and hopefully they will improve the graphics further, because as of right now, the game's visuals are not mindblowing for me.

Well trailer was realtime but just inengine. No complex physics, no AI etc. And yes it looks better than Halo 3, they are finally able to simulate dust :P
We need HD gameplay before judging it.

Ok, I'll say it. I'm a very high ranked Killzone 2 player and if the graphics look that good (or near to it) throughout the game Halo Reach will have better graphics than Killzone 2. Let's just wait and see if the graphics hold up with more stuff on screen.

I mean a lot of the textures were not that great that made up the levels. The characters looked great, but the levels themselves were a bit flat looking.

Also, its pretty easy to make things look great when your levels only use 2 or 3 colors. At least with ahlo, like with halo 3, there were outdoor jungle environments that were full of color and not just brown and gray.

Even if they didn't show gameplay footage, the in-game visuals look downright awesome. It looks like bungie's going to be bringing back the fear experienced when fighting elites from the first halo.
The trailer does a terrific job as a teaser and with almost a year until the release date, bungie still has a considerable amount of time to work on reach.

The first Halo 3 trailer was from an earlier build of the the game (pre-alpha). This cinema scene is taken from the alpha build of the game since the game will move on to Beta testing in a few months from now.

I just want to ask a simple question. Are there not a lot of games that use that technique? I can name quite a few.

Some games like Half Life look great and all the cut scenes are done fluidly within the gameplay itself.

I wish Rockstar would develop a GTA game that flows into the cutscenes like Half Life. Imagine the whole city having a story to tell. Every single person in the city would have their own home that you could walk into (or break into) and get missions or side quests seamlessly. The visuals aren't exactly stunning in this day and age. Modern Warfare 2, Spec ops, the new Splinter Cell, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, all of these games outperform what is seen in the trailer. That said, it is an improvement over the halo 3 engine, which is welcome.

however, they should have shown at least a bit of the action. all they showed was big distant explosions... just like the last teaser. another teaser that shows nothing more than the last teaser is a big no-no in my book. i mean, we did get to see the graphics engine (in a pre-animated, fully optimum cutscene environment with pre-determined camera angles that may have hidden any graphical flaws), but not even it was anything revolutionary. they needed to show more.

Trailer was good, better than I expected and they still have just under a year to work on it more. The only thing that makes me excited about the trailer, is the fact that I read the "Fall of Reach" book. Seeing this is like the first time i saw the Lord of the Rings trailer on cinema. It excites me to no end.

However...

I was honestly expecting "OMG BLOW ME AWAY" graphics from the way it was being hyped. But all we got was a in-game engine scene that is no better than many games these days. Killzone 2's ingame engine looks better than this at the moment(NOTE: how i say "at the moment"). People can argue as much as they want, but if you think the engine is awesome you are only looking at the Spartan armor design, not the actual graphic engine capability.

Still though the Halo theme and story are the true winners here. Yes i know its kind of childish and aimed toward a younger audience, but i was always a Colonial Marine(aka Aliens) fan, and when the 1st Halo came out i couldn't help but see similarities among the two titles in terms of ship designs and combat gear. After i read the "Fall of Reach" i was thinking it would be awesome to have this as a movie or a game.

Not to offend but I think some people were expecting flashing lights and big bangs, this was like reading the first page of a book. The calm before the storm if you will. MS achieved the one thing that they set out for and that was to have people argue over wether it will actually look like that or not. If any of you get a chance to watch the dvd bonus material that came with Halo 3 you will notice a segment where... to paraphrase... one of the top guys at bungie says they make sure the game is fun above all else and graphics are less important. I dont know about you but I sort of admire that. I wont mention other games but I've played games with much better graphics but Halo 3's multiplayer is absolutely superb and the single player whilst a bit underwhelming compared to what the original halo was is still good. I think of it like Jimi Hendrix. Even on his worst gig ever when he was having a bad trip and he sounded terrible by his standards that performance alone is better than 90% of human civilisation is capable of. Hopefully Halo Reach will be a Jimi plays Berkley. F'ing Awesome!!!

I only say this in relation to one of the comments above. Kill zone 2 was fairly good but I fell out with it when (in the single player!) I was called a Motherf***er by my squadmate that needed healing. Amazing graphics but a beautiful game it aint. Not even on Xbox live has anyone ever called me a Motherf***er! I dont know anyone elses standards but to be subjected to such a childish attempt at sounding mature in a game is extremely off putting. The guys at Guerilla need to find girlfriends and grow up for that bit alone. Great graphics though. Just Ok game. I played it until the final boss fight and gave up. The difficulty ramped up far too quickly on the final boss fight and it has been sat on my games shelf for the last six months untouched. I watched the ending when my brother completed it. But Halo 3 I have been playing regularly since 2007. This aint fanboyish. I own both machines and a Wii. I think UC2 is f'ing amazing and I love MGS4 (despite Mizaguchi being completely up his own a**e when it came to the mega long cut scenes and plot) For me Halo 3 has been a game I've spent more time with up until ODST and MW2 came out. I hope Halo Reach has superb gameplay and a graphics engine that is superb too. If guerilla did the graphics and bungie did the game we would be living in a world of perfection.

Are you serious? Have you even played Halo 3 online? In online matches, you only get experience if your team wins and lose exp if you back out of the game (Because that hurts your teams chances of winning) as apposed to Call of Duty were you get experience for how good you (not your team) do.

What everyone missed is the fact that MASTER CHIEF IS IN THE GAME! I stood up and cheered early in the trailer, but the backed away from it and showed how even HALO WARS played a part in this game.

The CG was on par, but still not better than the underrated Halo Wars.Which, hands down had the best cutscenes in the history of the series,

With that said It is wayyyyy to early for Bungie to reveal ANYTHING of significance in this trailer. Let the haters whine all day long. The game will demolish anything in it's path come 2010.

The info will trickle all year, but it will be literally be GAME ON at E3 2010. The suprise of the show was the in-game Spec ops footage..wow..wasnt expecting that.

The most amazing statement by Bungie is that Reach is so big that they believe that there will be difficulty wrapping it all up by September.

I salute the VGAs for giving Halo the respect it deserves. The fans will come out in record numbers and the preorders for the game alone will break every record in the book. Still, let's keep it real, this trailer beat MW2's radio tranmission and map trailer by a mile and a half.

Also, don't forget Reach is at least 10 months away I'm pretty sure. They're probably shooting for holiday season 2010 sometime. Anyway, can't wait for it. There's not many games I'm looking forward to this year but you can add this to the list along with GOW3, Starcraft 2, and SWTOR.

Compared to the Halo 3 trailer where it had master chiefs armor just ribbed up with normal mapping, I can definitely believe this should be the graphics you'll see in game. The graphics engine look a bit hand in hand with UE3 considering the lighting and the saturation of color. In other words it looks a bit like it was built off of the Unreal engine.

Now before you loyal Playstation guys go nuts I'm gonna go on a rant but i want you to truly take in what im saying....The PS3 isn't crap but its not better then the 360 at all the only thing i can say in true honesty the PS3 does better then the 360 is graphics. I own a PS3 and only buy ps exclusives for it however all my multiplatform-multiplayer games i buy for my 360. Alot of PS3's in America are purchased by gamers and people who got it as a HDTV package from best buy(lol)so PS3 doesn't really have a high attach rate for games in my opinion PS3 gamers consist mostly of casual/hardcore gamers who aren't as serious about gaming as 360 gamers, so the online community isn't as great. When i sign into Xbox LIVE it feels like you've entered a competitive gamers battle arena - MLG PROOOONESSSS!!!! - COD4, GEARS2, HALO3, MW2, MADDEN10, and so much more multiplayer fun. The fact that 360 comes with a headset should say alot about there mindset when it comes to multiplayer, PSN feels like a ghosttown! and HOME is a piece of sh1t! I'm gonna be honest it sucks and is an epic fail! It was a cut scene!!!! For crying out loud. The actual game will not look that good. It's not like this is Uncharted 2 and MGS4 where there is no disparity in graphics between the cut scenes and game play.

Edit: Okay on second look I will say I agree now its in game engine graphics. But it is still not that good. It looks bland. Then again we need to see it in a varied landscape to make better judgments. If I could I would give my self a disagree for my earlier comment.

To save argument let me put it this way, the Xbox-360 and the PS3 seem to me to be equally capable, I honestly can't say which one is the most capable because they both keep surprising me, I mean you would think the stuff they are both producing right now belongs on a 1gb top of the range Graphics car running on a rig with all the other bells and whistles. Surely all of you must agree that the stuff we are starting see even puts Crysis to shame....I am really amazed at what the consoles are achieving right now.

Regards sales which some worry about I think trends are changing, I am finding myself buying games that came out months ago simply because there is more choice, a lot of the games stand the test of time which means they will always sell even if they have a slow start, we are literally spoilt for choice.

Knowing that games like UC2 and KZ2 despite their graphics and hype couldnt live up the the succes that Halo has. Congrats to ND on their award. Hope the game goes on to sell as much or more than the Halo, it's to bad the pretty graphics couldn't do miracles for them in sales department.

Well, I fear there's been some overreaction from both sides myself. It didn't help that JK built this up to a point where some people's expectations became utterly unmeetable. Some people weere always gonna say it was amazing and some that it sucked ass.

Imo, and ignoring any extra hype, it looked pretty cool(great in places-let down in a few others)overall when we got to see a decent quality video(which did however show up a couple of different things as not being up to overall standards but it's still a cutscene way ahead of the finished article so plenty of changes to come)but as for saying it blows U2 or KZ2 out of the water-that's nt true, not yet anyway. It's a massive leap dorwards for the series even as iot is now and by release it could well run those games close or beat them in areas.

However, I think we should calm down, forhet our leanings and judge it fairly while remembering it's a cut scene and while game engine not gameplay(which usually isn't as great)and still ages way from what the finished game will be. Maybe, yes, a kot of this could and should have been done for Halo3 but it's coming now so sit back and wait til nearer the time to judge what uit's better or worse than as for now all it is is encouragingly good with some really great touches to me-clearly not finished and clearly not gameplay either so it's up in the air til autumn. So, it's a good start which was hurt, imo, by JK over hyping it and raising unreasonable expectations.

My interest after watching that "Exclusive Première" has dropped significantly. It was hyped so much and it failed to deliver.

That was dull, dreary and none inspirational. The only thing that managed to peek my interest was that skull cap soldier who was sharpening his knife, which brought life to was/is to be another Halo game ready for the milking.

I guess it makes perfect sense, why bother with a new Engine when they can simply milk money from a bad one effortlessly.

The character models look like something out of Half Life 2. This was suppose to be the 360's flagship game and it's no where near Killzone 2's in-game cinematics. I mean if they can't pull it of in the cinematic trailer they've just unveiled, then it's, "Game Over Man!" Just like that whinny guy from James Cameron's masterpiece, "Aliens" says, "Game Over Man!" This is the best that its gonna get. I dont care if its in the pre-Alpha,Delta, Bravo, whatever stage. This it. "Game Over Man!!!"
P.S. I've got a 360 and a Ps3 and Im not a fanboy of either. Maybe its not about each of the consoles limitations. Maybe it's just the developers who are to lazy and overpaid to care about pushing either console to it's limits. Let's face it Bungie has let us down again in terms of the graphics department, who knows the story and awesome but slow gameplay might save it like Halo 3 did.
