Batman: Arkham Asylum PS3 Sales Pass Xbox 360

IGN says: It took four months, but a major, multi-platform title release has sold more on PlayStation 3 than Xbox 360.

Since its release in August, Batman: Arkham Asylum is now leading on the PlayStation 3 console by over 10,000 units when compared to Xbox 360, according to NPD.

Typically, most multi-platform titles sell considerably more on Xbox 360 due to the console's higher install base, but it seems the exclusive Joker content on the PS3 version, at no additional cost, has swayed consumers this time around.

chances are:

1-joker DLC worked

2-it isnt a shooter so like almost every other non-shooter game on xbox, it didnt do that well..

3-kids on xbox like power ranger-esque charachters better than batman..

"kids on xbox like power ranger-esque charachters better than batman"
Bubbles!

Walmart also had exclusive armor DLC that may not have been available to 360 owners.

It was an amazing game (aside from the ending)

IdleLeeSiuLung3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

That might explain its higher sales numbers....

darthv723623d ago

I think that was proven false. I tried looking for a copy that did but never saw any place that offered it "officially". If it did then it would be a great deal.

I got my copy from toys r us along with lego batman for free and free shipping. I chose the 360 version because of the lego batman. I have two 360's and 1 ps3 and my son really likes the lego games (plays star wars, indy, and now batman) and it was easier to get that and let him play on one 360 while i played AA on another.

A great game none the less. The joker dlc just didnt interest me as it really played no part in the overall story. If anything, I expected there to be levels in the game you play as the joker when it was first announced. After finding out it was just bonus challenges, no interested anymore.

I feel Batman AA is "my" personal nod for game of the year as far as a multiplat game goes.

sunnygrg3623d ago

It has already sold more on the PS3 worldwide.

Dannagar3623d ago

Well, Best Buy was giving it away with the PS3 during Black Friday. So I'm sure that helped too.

vhero3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

Square-Enix should take note since they own this IP now that the 360 sells better for shooters and this is proof. Also as for above this wasn't bundled with the movie at all that's a blatent lie.

Hisiru3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

"it didnt do that well"

It's already a million seller on both platforms, so it's doing very well on both platforms but the ps3 version sold 300k more than the x360 version.

DasBunker3623d ago

sorry forgot to add.. "it didnt do that well for xbox enthusiasts standards"

because you know.. for them.. 1 mill. is a flop.. PFFTTTT

Montrealien3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

The Tides are turning!

That DLC helped the PS3 sales for sure. Plus it is clearly the better version. Also I vote DasBunker king of videogames, he clearly knows what he is talking about.

Software_Lover3623d ago

But for those who say shooters sale on xbox and everything else on ps3.

Whats up with Dragon Age Origins then?

People just buy the games they want. Doesn't matter what console its on. I have Batman for PC. Great game.

Xgamerzus3623d ago

Yes but mostof the 360 gamers like PC games anyways!
thats why MW2 was top of charts

calis3623d ago

Further proof PS3 games have long legs...

GiantEnemyCrab3623d ago

Point 1 is good. The rest is complete idiotic nonesense.

TheBlackSmoke3623d ago

Wrong...

2009

RE5 PS3 sold more

SFIV PS3 sold more

Batman AA PS3 sold more

Assassins creed 2 360 barley beats out PS3

^^^ Those are some of the biggest franchises in gaming and i think this shows that no matter what you say about PS3 owners not buying games, they ARE buying the ones that matter.

I think ign need to change that to "FPS titles sell considerably more on the 360" because we all know that's the truth.

Montrealien3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

you see black smoke, the way you replied to what he said is a great example of what is wrong with N4G.

RE5, SFIV and Batman AA all sold more on the PS3 by about 10k-30k and Assassin's creed 2 sold more on the 360 by 20k and to you it barely sold more on the 360....

many people like you here on N4G just see what they want, an hear what they want, and don't give a rat's *** what other people think.

*sigh*

3XP3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

Actually you are wrong, there were batman bundles being sold at Walmart, Sears, and Sams Clubs. You can also still buy them on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBay...

http://www.samsclub.com/sho...

Although it really doesn't matter how the PS3's version was able to outsell the 360 version. It is what it is.

@raztad (3.1)

" If you are working/have a real life you cant spend 24/7 playing games or just nerding with virtual "friends"."

Let's not try to make it appear that 360 fans are non-working kids only playing games. Besides, if that was the case, I'm sure publishers want to sell games to people that are buying them. Also, you spend much time on this site, either you are doing it from work, or you are the same person that's you comment is talking about. Which is it?

TheBlackSmoke3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

Your missing the point, I'm simply saying that hey PS3 owners do buy games and in fact if you compare install bases... really the 360 sales should always leave PS3 in the dust, but as we can see besides FPS that's not really true and therefore this article is fud.

Funny how whenever we get news story's of how MW2 sold 3:1 on the 360 all of a sudden the install bases are equal in the USA and 360 just sold more "coz its teh superiorz"..<<<n ow THATS whats wrong with n4g.

Please get off your high horse, im as far removed from a fanboy as can be.

Montrealien3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

So we agree.

"Funny how whenever we get news story's of how MW2 sold 3:1 on the 360 all of a sudden the install bases are equal in the USA and 360 just sold more "coz its teh superiorz"..<<<n ow THATS whats wrong with n4g."

is the same as

"RE5, SFIV and Batman AA all sold more on the PS3 by about 10k-30k and Assassin's creed 2 sold more on the 360 by 20k and to you it barely sold more on the 360.... "

people read and understand what they want, and don't give a rat's *ss what other people say. That's what's wrong with the internet.

givemelbpbetakeys3623d ago

i didnt get the whole power ranger joke at first but then i remember or friendly green ranger i gotta give you a bubble

TR:Legends was also a game that sold more on PS3 than the 360... but hey this isn't anything super big.. The title is very popular and it's been selling consistently every month since it's release on the PS3 so i'd say it's doing a good job. In addition all the 360 fans saw MW2 and went out to get it. sooooo.

TheColbertinator3623d ago

Multiplats on PS3 are not as bad as I thought. My PS3 copies of Arkhum Asylum and borderlands are somewhat decent

bot slayer3623d ago

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT XFLOP 1.5 SELLS MORE LOL.

Johnny Rotten3623d ago

hey Steven good luck in the Olympics!!

Zishyfish3623d ago

The article stated it took four months to overtake to the 360, so it appears the fanbase didn't completely overlook the game.

raztad3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

PS3 owners get games slowly but steadily. If you are working/have a real life you cant spend 24/7 playing games or just nerding with virtual "friends".

No to mention that games get cheaper down the road, so it makes sense to wait a couple of months if you have something else to play.

testerg353623d ago

raztad, so did they make more money from the 360 or PS3 version? If 360 version sold more initially at $60 vs PS3 version that sold more later on at $40 or less, then which is better for the publisher?

Simon_Brezhnev3623d ago

@ raz

Your correct most 360 owners are lil kids

calis3623d ago

"raztad, so did they make more money from the 360 or PS3 version? If 360 version sold more initially at $60 vs PS3 version that sold more later on at $40 or less, then which is better for the publisher?"

I imagine that publishers sell the game at a set rate to a game store.

For example lets say Eidos sell Batman AA to EB Games for $30 per game.
EB Games sell it for $60 initially and then make a profit of $30 per game at the start and then later on in the months when they sell the game for $40 they get $10.

I would think it goes something along those lines.

testerg353623d ago

calis, I doubt that stores buy 4months worth of inventory, but I could be wrong.

calis3623d ago

It's not necessarily 4 months of inventory but they would still buy it from the publisher and sell it at an inflated price to make some sort of cost on it.

raztad3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

@tester

The short answer is: I only care about my money.

Long answer: Batman:AA is still selling $50+ on Amazon, so I guess Square Enix is making a killing off that game. It's clear that any publisher would like to sell MW2 numbers day one, but they know thats not the way it works, there are very few franchises capable to pull those numbers so long legs is something every publisher wants for their games.

TheBlackSmoke3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

If you want to go in to actual profit remember the USA (360's dominant territory) has the weakest currency of the big 3. Video games in europe and japan are making companies the equivalent of $80-90 per game once converted from euros and yen and as the PS3 dominates those 2 territories they are nullifying the sales lost in the USA.

silvacrest3623d ago

considering both install bases in the US this is a pretty good achievment
