Florida Attorney General Looking into Wii Version of Manhunt 2

GamePolitics has confirmed via multiple sources that Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum (R) has expressed concern over the impending release of Rockstar's controversial game on Nintendo's next-gen console.

For McCollum, the issue seems to be the use of the Wii's motion-sensitive controller. It is widely anticipated that players will be required to simulate slashing, stabbing or clubbing motions in order to play Manhunt 2 on Nintendo's popular system.

"Florida retailers are scheduled to sell a very violent video game called Manhunt 2 which will be available, remarkably, for "play" on the kids-friendly Nintendo Wii gaming platform.

The Wii device does not utilize traditional push button game controllers but instead utilizes hand-held motion capture devices… It is a training device. "

I fully agree with darktangent. Wii is wildy known as a family console and giving it games like Manhunt and having those innovative kills thanks to controller is too much for average gamer let alone media and lawers who see whole gaming as bad thing. R* should have released MH2 only for PS2/PSP (And for next gen should have gone with hardcore consoles like PS3 and 360).

-At most game stores, parents are also notified of the ratings label and the content of the game. Especially if it's clear they're going to buy it for their kid, yes I've worked retail, and yes these parents are often VERY strongly warned about what they're buying.
-Idiot parents will ignore the warnings, give this game to 8-year-olds with rage issues, then threaten to sue the store they shopped at and Rockstar when that kid pummels his brother.
-Yes, I was working at a store when a parent whom I'd specifically warned about this exact sort of issue stormed back in.

Given the above, this issue is not Wii nor Rockstar's fault.

Nintendo is trying to shed the kiddie image that they've developed so that they can be more mass-market like the PS and PS2 - games for everyone. Will it work or will it blow up in there face? Only time will tell.

I actually think this guy might have a point. The Wii remote is actually simulating slashing and murdering people. And bringing this to a kid friendly system such as the Wii will only be trouble. Especially since it seems fun!!! (I want to play it!)

Then again, shooting games with gun controls have been around forever and isn't that still killing?!?

the answer is that NEITHER are killing. its all simulation and anyone with half a functioning brain can handle it without having murderous impulses. videogames dont cause kids to kill people. pyscho kids as a result of bad parenting kill people.

While the Wii Remote was meant for the fun in stuff. This game has a rather odd taste for MDK. I can understand how some may get put off on ripping some poor guys franks and berries off and then stab em a few times. Yet why is it okay to do all that with a press of a button but not with the motion?

Has the Wii truly ushered in a new era of gaming. Manhunt + button mashing = Only a violent game. But Manhunt + Wii motion sensing controller = Public outrage. I don't remember any politicians going crazy over the Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller that was available on the Nintendo Game Cube. These politicians need to sit down. Strengthen the game ratings, and put the fear in the retailers so that they will not sell to minors outside of that sitdown and shutup.

Also, being a human being,I have this very special thing called 'FREE-WILL YOU JACKASS!', and this lets me decide if I want to play games that simulate murdering some one. It also lets me decide if I want to kill someone in real life, but, because I'm not a retarded gimp, I think I'll just stick with the games. I think maybe most people in the world will do the same thing, because the majority of the world's population aren't retarded gimps... except those lawyers who live in Florida.
