Seems like every developer has moved on from the PlayStation 2, but not Flight Plan, the creators of Summon Night.
Next year, Flight Plan and publisher Namco Bandai will release Summon Night Granthese: Sword of Ruin and the Knight's Promise in Japan. The title is slated for spring 2010 and so far it's the only PlayStation 2 game in that window.
In Japan, it's the end of two eras this month, as the final PS2 RPG is shipped as well as the final .hack game.
Such a shame .hack is being killed off. Everyone who played and enjoyed the series always hoped for an eventual online component to play "The World."
The series has a very well developed universe and a great fan following that could only get bigger if they tried to up the ante with a new console release. I hope this development team comes up with some new awesome RPG series to take its place or one day comes back and makes "The World" MMO we all wish existed. :)
well, there was actually a version of the original games where you could play with 2 other people from a lobby and quest in a keyword area. it was called Fragment. didnt sell amazingly in japan and they never ported it over here. but ya...ive been a long time .hack fanboy since the original anime and games aired, i remember waiting for the next releases eagerly for months with the first games. im very sad to see the end of it, i really loved it...maybe some of the stuf that didnt make it over here will get brought over in the future
A new trailer and 57 screens and art shots of what many are calling the PS2's last RPG, Summon Night Granthese.
the ps2 games just don't stop...
the animation in the fmv's looks clean, and the action element of the RPG looks decent enough.
I wish there would be a PSN release though... it would also most likely be more profitable for them in the long run. Regardless i'll keep a look out for reviews to see how this shapes up.
Looks really good, now if only they would localise it.
Hopefully this would be a true JRPG, with towns, exploration and sidequests galore.
wow looks quite good for it being on an almost 10 year console.
Japanese VA's sound like they did a really good job on this. I hope they include a sub track if it gets a US release.
Did anyone else notice the opening credits... This game has "sing-like talking" :D
Looks awesome, i hope there is a U.S. release. But why would it be the Ps2's last rpg game?i hope not.
Summon Night Granthese will come to Japanese PS2s next year. Scan via Famitsu.
