Official: God of War 3 Will Not Feature Online Co-Op

Over the weekend a news story hit the web about God of War III featuring an online co-op component. With the source coming from the official Sony retail site, which allows retail stores to take quizzes on upcoming games, the news seemed like a likely thing.

Yes, WE SOOOO wanted to believe this lol. Gosh, that would have been uberly insanely uber but now we'll just have to make do with Insanely uber :( lol

Winter47th3676d ago (Edited 3676d ago )

I'd love a survival type Co-Op like Uncharted 2. GOWIII's on my list anyways but if it had co-op it sure would'a been a huge plus in replayability & bang 4 the buck. March's already crowded as it is, so when it comes it's a matter of preferring to play with my friends or solo.

The Killer3676d ago (Edited 3676d ago )

competitive online mode
not sure about Coop might ruin the solo experience.

competitive online mode will not ruin the single player mode because it will be about who stays standing last with all olympus weapons and powers!!! that can be really great!! or imagine some kind of heavy arrow weapons can be used in the competitive mode!!

if any game wanna sell well these days it have to have some kind of online experience to add the longevity of the game because these days its hard to justify 8-15 hours long campaign for 60Eu or 45GBP or 60USD!!

darthv723676d ago

Would have been nice though. Who would actually fight along side kratos anyway? He is such a bad mf that he'd lay waste to any sidekick that didn't hold their own in a fight anyway.

I think it would have been fun to play as the brother from down under only to be sacrificed to the gods by the main man himself when the time came.

WenisWagon3676d ago

Especially for a game which droids are hailing as the next big exclusive? Flop...

Noctis Aftermath3675d ago

Will their be any online play at all? because as we know, games that are single player only are going the way of the dinosaurs.

deadreckoning6663675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

At least we know OFFICIAL doesn't mean Sony Official.

baum3675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has Co-op, doesn't it? It seems that God of War 3 doesn't "do everything".

Now let's wait for Sony to ruin the day by saying "No track editing for GT5".

badz1493675d ago

this co-op thing is too good to be true! luckily I was not over excited about it! I just wanna play GoW3 now! that's all I'm asking!

presto7173675d ago

Kratos does not need a sidekick. He did not need one in part one and he did not need one in part two.

ReservoirDog3163675d ago

Sad, sad day when that happens man. Sad, sad day.

Lifendz3675d ago

I'm even getting that obnoxious collector's edition because...well...this is Kratos in what may be his last appearance on PS3. Anyone else play the demo and have to pause the game to marvel at how pretty it is? Pretty may be the wrong word. Can't wait. Areeessssss

LOLPSN3676d ago

Its all about Single Player anyway

MattyF3676d ago

Exactly. The game will be great without any type of co-op play.

topdawg1223675d ago

True, this is probably the last game that needs online, not every game needs online to be good. This will still be epic

Noctis Aftermath3675d ago

I'm not exactly sure why people seem to be against the idea of online co-op, since it wouldn't interfere with the single player mode i don't understand why it's bad to have more features.
Well since it won't have co-op anyway i guess it doesn't matter.

Max Power3675d ago

would have been very disappointed if there was co-op. I still would have bought the game regardless, but I'd be annoyed with the "every game needs some sort of online" conformist mentality that seems to be griping this generation.

creatchee3675d ago

I don't know how people can actually get excited for a game NOT having co-op. It's hard to guess what that co-op would be or how it would work, but I am 100% confident that Santa Monica could've pulled it off.

It doesn't change a thing - God of War III will be awesome. But who WOULDN'T want more game to play? I understand that fanboys needs their damage control and such, but saying that a game is better because it doesn't have co-op is like saying that "it's good that I am missing a toe because it makes the other 9 stronger."

Doesn't make sense, does it?

baum3675d ago

Why are you taking this troll seriously? Lol wow

Pennywise3676d ago

Not surprising. But, in before the "screw Sony" rants.

LOLPSN3676d ago

LOL I told you PSN can't handle co op

cry moaaaar Droids

itchy183676d ago

do you even have a ps3?

bunbun7773676d ago

completely ignorant of the awesomeness that is Kratos would think that we the fans are losing anything by this "new" feature not being implemented.

I could see how someone who was trying to keep score in a fake war might think they scored on this -- but honestly there are no 10 year olds here that are crying because of this.

Don't cry for me Argentina.,...

MattyF3676d ago

I guess the Uncharted 2 Co-op stuff never happened then, right?

Chubear3676d ago (Edited 3676d ago )

Come back and talk when you can game on the 360's Live with 8player co-op lmao XD heck, have you guys even managed to get a 10v10 MP match going yet talk less of 8player co-op? lol

Lou-Cipher3675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

Even if they did have a PS3, they are not old enough to play mature rated games anyway. They belong with the rest of the brainwashed 12 year old children that have overtaken the 360's main user base.

Those clowns are just mad that The God of War Collection(remastered PS2 Games) have better Graphics,Gameplay, and alot more value than Halo 3, Halo ODST, Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2 does put together.

Plus, they have to use their allowance to pay to play those horrible games online.

It could promote the community aspects of PSN and allow players to better get to know one another.

But it won't happen. Why?

Few people have mics on PSN.
They have an older fanbase that doesn't care much for Online Co-Op.
And why put money into a title that the Sony followers won't buy anyway.

Here's a little statistic for you:
God of War II was released on March 13th, 2007.
The PS3 fanbase was approximately 120 million.
The title only sold 3 million copies. 2.5% of the fanbase.
The PS3 fanbase will be approximately 30 million when God of War III is released next March.

Let's use the same equation:
30,000,000 X 2.5% = 750,000 copies.

Now OBVIOUSLY it'll sell more than that.
But it won't be a blockbuster.

Looks like Uncharted 2 numbers are coming.

Sony Fans. Come on...

Go and buy something. For once.

bunbun7773676d ago (Edited 3676d ago )

With your awesome logic and numbers showing that only 3-4 million of a possible 120 million bought the game..... what were ps2 users thinking-- I guess they just wanted to watch the Matrix on DVD....

Maybe ---and this is the zinger-- maybe Kratos is too hard core for most fans, with the bloodletting and the sacrifice, with the mini sex games and the uber storyline...

my enjoyment of the game will not be affected by whether there are 1 million sales week one or 5 million sales. I will still enjoy the game-- if Santa Monica started making games to tailor to the mainstream,,,, well then it wouldn't be God of War now would it?

Do you even know the power of the blades of Chaos?

dazzalfc3676d ago

"It could promote the community aspects of PSN and allow players to better get to know one another.

But it won't happen. Why? "

Possibly because the developers think online Co-op would get in the way of both the story they have created and the gameplay, and implementing co-op would mean a possible re-write of the entire game, along with giving other playable characters that would work along with the story and style of the game.

Or, in your world, 'becuz teh PS3 is teh crap, SOnee dunno wat der doin'. Trust me, i think they do, hence why they have been in the industry for over a decade now, becoming an integral part of the gaming society, and why your stuck behind a pc screen, commenting virtually every hour on an internet site. Maybe you can comment when your more educated.

One last thing......

"Few people have mics on PSN.
They have an older fanbase that doesn't care much for Online Co-Op.
And why put money into a title that the Sony followers won't buy anyway. "

So not only do you know the insides of the market and age of PS3 users, but you also managed to figure that 'few' people have mics and PS3 owners won't buy that game. Given the only real sales successes (exclusive wise) for the 360 have been the ever popular Halo and Gears, i doubt you can really brag about owners buying games (especially in the aftermath of almost 1million 360 users being hit for modding their consoles). I highly doubt your in a position to talk about Mic usage either. Unless i'm going deaf, i hardly heard anyone with a mic in Fifa 10, or CoD4 last week.

Stick to making less assumptions and continuely writing about the PS3. The more you talk about it, the more its obvious your more interested in it than anything else, and its there in which you truly fail at this

ultimolu3675d ago

Guys, IGNORE HIM. He's a troll craving attention.

baum3675d ago

It appears that mr. "No one cares" cares. Could he be more of a joke? I wonder.

TheTruth20093675d ago

Bunbun777. My friend. Sad attempt.
"Maybe ---and this is the zinger-- maybe Kratos is too hard core for most fans, with the bloodletting and the sacrifice, with the mini sex games and the uber storyline... "

Gears of War 1 & 2 - Constant chainsawing of opponents and strong language.
5 million copies sold each. With a quarter of the fanbase.

Grand Theft Auto 4 - Sex, harsh language, and violence. Biggest game this generation.

Kill the excuses. Some "zinger".

Dazzalfc. Let's see...

"Possibly because the developers think online Co-op would get in the way of both the story they have created and the gameplay, and implementing co-op would mean a possible re-write of the entire game, along with giving other playable characters that would work along with the story and style of the game."

You see, Microsoft works hand-in-hand with developers to make sure the community aspects of XBOX Live are implemented into each game. Just like with achievements. Sony doesn't do the same. They know that it's a waste. Or they're just inept and don't know any better. Could be. Trophies still aren't even mandatory with all PS3 games. Sad. They stole the idea just to muck it up? Guess so.

You guys are too busy making excuses and trying to insult me to think clearly.

I know.

It would be easier for you to just admit that PS3 owners are movie buyers and not game buyers.

It's tough to save a sinking ship.

But nice try though! :-)

And a message to Ultimolu... I'm watching you. :-)

solidjun53675d ago

You sound like Jim Sterling. Matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you were him. I would be careful about your heart condition with all that yelling and nonsense you're doing over the internet. You speak nonsense and you're pretty much a troll. And a bad one at it. Go by the wayside and hang out with PP. You could learn a thing or two from him you twit.
