100 Games now on the Virtual Console, 4.7 million games Sold

Nintendo has sent word that the Virtual Console (at least in the US) will have its 100th game added to the libary on June 4, with Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Also, since the service was switched on in November last year, more than 4.7 million games have been downloaded off the Wii's Virtual console - a rate that Nintendo says is more than 1,000 every hour. While specific data for each title is not provided, Nintendo did provide a top five list of games sold. 1st Place goes to Super Mario Bros (NES), in Second, Super Mario 64 (N64), in third place, Mario Kart 64 (N64), fourth place goes to Super Mario World (SNES) and The Legend of Zelda (NES) rounds up the end of the Top Five.

I have a boat load of these myself. I'm into this downloading games to the console that we are in now. I have a slew of them on 360 and most available on the PS3. Give me some more! It's like crack.

Oh and the question of why does Nintendo keep making Mario games? Well just look at the top 5 downloads:1) Super Mario Bros.(R) (NES(R))
2) Super Mario 64(R) (N64(R))
3) Mario Kart 64(TM) (N64(R))
4) Super Mario World(R) (SNES(R))
5) The Legend of Zelda(R) (NES(R))
Yeah see Nintendo keeps making Mario games because they sell.

Just think if each game was $4 dollars and you times that by 4.7million you'd have a crap load of money, Nintendo is raking it in!

WoW. I would like to see the whole list of games. I wouldn't mind having a Wii just for the VC games. Xbox doesn't have that many and it has been out for a long time. I'm getting myself a Wii for Christmas.

They are just ports of old games I already own. They aren't even upgraded a little like the ones on XBLA. Instead of milking old ports maybe Nintendo should release some games for the Wii.

Well granted they are just straight up ports. Yet not everyone owned these games. I know there were some I didn't have and it was a warm welcome to get. It's also a plus (in my mind) that nothing was done to these games. I bought the old games to play the old games. I didn't buy it to play the same game but with upgrades. It's the old school look and feel which is candy to any nostalgic want.
Nintendo is thinking of making a new channel or service for new games for downloads and I'm pretty sure they are going to be releasing some games for the Wii. Kind of goes without saying though I hope ^.-

I don't get it, people buy hundred years old painting that where not retouched ever since and they paid full price, they buy vynil of the Beatles even tough they didn't write any new song this year, they even buy old retro game that are emulated so they play like just like when they were initialy released... its like if some kind of weird niche actually enjoy those obsolete things...
