Rumors circulate about Gamespot changing MW2 review score

The forums at Giantbomb are buzzing that Gamespot changed their review score for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Multiple posters state that the 9.0 present is not the original score, and that Gamespot had posted an 8.5 first. None of the forum users have produced a screenshot of the alleged original score, but we decided to contact Chris Watters, the author of the review, for clarification

Pretty suspicious...
Good read.

What happened Gamespot? Did the check bounce? OH SNAP!!!

IdleLeeSiuLung3678d ago

So who cares about this rumor that seems false anyhow. Almost all the other big outlets have given this game a 9 or above. So even a 9.0 seems low relatively speaking.

sunnygrg3678d ago (Edited 3678d ago )

You mean, did they get a second check, right?

And I don't know about the console versions, but the PC version definitely received an 8.5 by Gamespot.

Saaking3678d ago (Edited 3678d ago )

There's is no doubt that the big reviewers are paid off. GS didn't recieve any goodies so they made an HONEST review; however, after recieiving the dealyed package they were quick to falsify the review and give more power to the hype. One word: DESPICABLE.

Well, at least we can all be happy MW2 didn't have too much variety right?

Still doubtful but, it isn't impossible. Gamespot have been known to be a little shaky since Kane and Lynch nightmare.

However, what this does prove that the big reviewers for the big games are very doubtful, and that therefore, the integrity of reviews themselves questionable over all. Sad really

They would have brought the score down if the check bounced not up they probably threatened to pull ad revenue from the site unless it was at least a 9.

Sitdown3678d ago

If the checked bounced, it would not have made sense for them to change it to a higher score...Unless you are applying they would give a higher score to punish Activision/IW for giving them a bad check. Hahah, then to top it off, 4 people have agreed with you so far.

MW2 is an excellent game and an improvement on the original in every way, in my opinion. Even the single player, albeit brief, is one of the best FPS single player experiences I've had in years, and the multiplayer takes everything that was great about the first and added to it. I was actually surprised Gamespot didn't give at a 9.5 or 10 to start with, even with the short campaign. Halo ODST received a nine from gamespot, even though they said the mulitplayer was all recycled and I have friends that beat the single player in just over 2 hours.

Maybe they just really like Halo?

hobokiller3677d ago

Not again. If Chris Watters gets fired I'll be very suspicious.

ReservoirDog3163677d ago

Interesting but is there any actual proof? Whatsoever?

I just think this is someone who looked at the K&L incident and thought this up.

But, I may be wrong. What do I know?

Syronicus3677d ago

But that is just my opinion. I play the multiplayer so much that my thumbs are sore!

Knghtz3677d ago

Yay another conspiracy theory!

Yes there is...

@ link not working

TRUE, sorry - fan1983 has the working link lower down in comments.

Sorry everyone =/

Makroyale3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

I commented that they are contradicting themselves when saying "No forum users have produced a screen shot" and then the site admin says in the comments that basically they have seen a screenshot and they can't prove it hasn't been photoshoped. Gimme a break.

Note the comment that says "awaiting moderation" though other comments have been allowed.

Corporate reviewers for ya. That's why I don't trust them. I bet if this is true Activision asked them to change it. Gamespot...Kane and Lynch anyone?

Never believe ANYTHING until it is denied.

I love a good conspiracy theory, especially when it has to do with GameSpot!

DangerCurtis3678d ago (Edited 3678d ago )

So the plot thickens. Very interesting story. The question is, is he lying or is he telling the truth. With no viable evidence at this point, all we can do is trust his words.

TheGameLlama3678d ago

May have to start taking screenshots of every GameSpot review before they're changed.

...oh wait, I don't read GameSpot.

NotSoSilentBob3678d ago

Activision must have seen that and decided to deposit some extra money into their Gamespot advertising account.

Crazyglues3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

I don't get it, because when I go to the site it says 8.5 but this guy said they gave it a 9.0 -So... ???

-(what's really going on here?)

here is a screen snap -

So is it suppose to be 9.. now that the check cleared.. or is it back 8.5 so they can try to keep it real... LOL

3677d ago
Crazyglues3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

They have different scores for PC and Xbox 360... which makes no sense?

-but that is where the problem lies.. the 360 version is given a 9.0 while the PC one has an 8.5

(that's why people think they changed the score)
