Sega Invades Nintendo's Virtual Console

SEGA's tearing up the Wii's Virtual Console once again this week. On offer are Streets of Rage 2, ToeJam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Kid Chameleon and HudsonSoft's World Sports Competition.

Streets of Rage 2 first graced the Mega Drive back in 1993. It's headbands, rollerblades and fingerless gloves galore in this side-scrolling beat 'em up. Back in the heady days of the early '90s the game also marked the first time SPOnG got hot and bothered while staring endlessly at a heaving digital bosom courtesy of femme fatale Blaze. Streets of Rage 2 can be yours for 800 Wii Points.

Next up is a dash of funky Mega Drive platforming thanks to ToeJam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron. The planet Funkotron's in a spot of bother and it's all ToeJam and Earl's fault. It turns out a bunch of those pesky Earthlings hitched a ride over on the heroes' return from the first game. Now the duo is faced with the challenge of collecting them all into jars and getting rid. Quite how Earl's going to deal with the jar lids without any hands is a bit beyond SPOnG, however. You can buy ToeJam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron with 800 Wii Points.

Rounding out Sega's Virtual Console offering this week is 1992's Kid Chameleon, once again from the Mega Drive. It's a whole great mess of meta-gaming as Kid must make his way into his town's latest arcade game to free the town's youngsters from the evil Heady Metal. Should games really be using games as a plot point? Answers in the Forum, please. Kid Chameleon will set you back 800 Wii Points....
