Indeed. They show developers they can do the same game with a different skin and it'll still sell. They buy based on hype instead of quality. It's unfortunate but Casual gamers far outnumber hardcore gamers.

Atari was plagued with shovelware. Hopefully this isn't the case, but the Wii is definitely plagued with shovelware and the only titles that sell a lot and aren't shovelware are made by Nintendo. The other good games on the Wii aren't selling enough. PS3 and 360 are too expensive to make games for... hopefully this is just a minor hiccup for the industry and not the industry going bankrupt again.

I must be missing something. Why is everyone copying that guy?

The casual gamers that the industry people are talking about are not really casual gamers they are in reality fad gamers they play what ever game and system happens to be the "it" game/system of the moment. And like all fads they don't last long and by the time a company comes out with their next game in the series those fad gamers have moved on to what ever the new fad is.

There hundreds of companies that have risen fast and fallen hard because of a fad. The rise is gaming is a fad weather these companies want to admit it or not and sooner or later the fad is going to go away and all these companies are going to be left with in the end are the real gamers (the people that play games because they like them not because some celebrity likes this or that game or console)that have been getting crapped on for the last few years in favor milking the fad for as long as possible. And a lot of them like other fad companies in the past are going to fall and fall hard.

Good point. But do you think these devs will continue to make games knowing they're just going to be brushed aside for bigger more "casual" franchises?

It's a good thing there's a huge gamer support for games like Demon's Souls on the PS3 as it has the most diversified gaming group undedicated to a certain genre. Unless you're counting MW2 - just compare the US and Asia sales and it would be clear as day/night!

Again:

Isn't that OBVIOUS!!!

@XBOX360-FUN

"If the dev companies and distributors had any integrity they would make games for gamers and continue to try to push the boundaries"

Why they will do that, if casuals buy the overhyped sequels, they are GREEDY and the majority don't have integrity like Activsion, so prefer to milk insted to invest in order to push the boundaries

This gen, the CORE gaming community was replaced by motion and shooter casuals,
I'm not talking about PS3 because it give me the best and for xbox either, but it seems like every company is thinking in make a crappy game or just pull out another milking game

How is this the gamers' fault? If the dev companies and distributors had any integrity they would make games for gamers and continue to try to push the boundaries. You think From Software cares about the casual gamer when they put out Demon's Souls? Nothing's forcing these developers to make watered-down games.

Its just that one poster being a tard Alternate Acct No100. he's just making a post then editing it later with other peoples comments. May be he can't form coherent sentences on his own. And now the children waiting for their nightly molesting think they all have to do it now.

I hope nobody is surprised by this. It makes perfect sense. Casual gamers don't buy many games to begin with. When the economy is bad games are the first thing casual gamers will cut out.
