This is what kills me i wonder just how many xbox gold accounts there really are as we speak microsoft likes to talk a big one but 2 million a record. I say there is no way they have over 7 million gold with that figure then. At least not active gold maybe 10 million who have signed up at one time or another. What does Halo has to do with MW2 online numbers? If you would actually PLAY the games, you would know that Halo and MW are totally different... I don't like Halo multiplayer too much, I prefer MW, but that don't mean I shouldn't recognize that hundreds of thousands do enjoy it. You are just being a hater. Halo has transcended just being a "great exclusive". The franchise is already at legendary status. If you don't see that, then you are blind and there is no hope for you. yeah, but if people are like me, they have Steam starting when windows does, still doesn't mean I'm using Steam during that time. While Live is active when you go on your Xbox, chances are you'll be using it when you log on (since most games these days seem to heavily rely on MP and have shorter SP, see MW2), while I mostly use my computer for school and work.

As 5.4 pointed out, many people including myself leave steam on all the time. I'd guess that only 20% of online steam users are actually gaming at any specific time. I know I'm only gaming <5% of the time I'm logged in.

Though as people have pointed out, I believe this article is just about XBL breaking its own record. Comparing it to PC is pretty pointless as it's impossible to measure how many people are PC gaming online.

It's like whenever a good game comes out (once every blue moon), all the XBL players flood the servers to play. Really shows how much variety is within that community. I can't remember the last time I saw a friend play a racing game, RPG or even a music rythym game on there.

I just got my own account on LIVE for the first time as I now have DSL that just became available (Hughesnet + online gaming = it better be turn based).
Im quite happy with the LIVE service and its...$40-$50 a year depending on where you get it. Wow....Some here dropped 6 hundred bucks for a game system and I read flack about 40 bucks???
So you pay nothing.Good for you.
Im not investing in another $300 piece of hardware right now to save $40 bucks a year.

In fact the main reason for buying a 360 is the biggest and best online community called xbox live.

I am from Europe and compared to the PSN MS makes a GREAT job with the marketplace in xbox live, while ps3 owners have to make 2 more accounts (US, JPN) to get their demos.

It also sucks, that PS3 owners have all the online issues with so many great new games, like Borderlands/ MW2.

and it 'ONLY' happened after the launch of MW2 which means before the launch of MW2 about 50% of those 2 million weren't even using the XBL or had their 360's shipped off for repairs, I'd say both.
