Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" seems unnecessary asks what the point of the controversial "No Russian" airport scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and discusses whether or not it was necessary at all. FYI a HQ and NSFW "No Russian" video is included in post.

From the article: "I don't know what to think about the controversial level of Modern Warfare 2 called "No Russian." On one hand, it's obviously grotesque, but on the other, it's supposed to be a narrative tool to show just how villainous the game's "Big Bad" really is.

Me? I just think its Infinity Ward attempting to be "shocking" and trying to one up their nuke blast death scene from Call of Duty 4. Why? because of how absolutely unnecessary the whole scene is."

I've said this countless times before. If they wanted to grab the players attention and create a tear jerking scene, they would have made it unplayable, and slapped on some sympathy music.

Instead they went the controversial route. Idiots.

It's actually quite necessary, and is a step in the right direction. You can't shield people from reality, think terrorism's a joke? it happens, and it's much colder than the Airport scene. if you don't like it, choose skip, they had the courtesy to give you that option at least, if you wanna have a taste of reality, try it from the comfort of your couch. You're not hurting anybody.

The movie industry's been doing it for years, it's okay for'em, but oh no, not videogames. We should confine ourselves to the NES mentality. Jump over mushrooms and fight trees.

Videogaming should be taken more seriously, the simplest thing we make is blown out of the water by the media, so I consider the Airport a big F you to the media. We're not confined about what they think is right but what we know is mature entertainment.

To me, gaming's about raising questions, interesting dilemmas, controversy & expressing opinions. I had that in Bioshock, and I'm glad I'll have it again in MW2. Used or rented that is.

I see where your coming from, but it still doesn't excuse the scene from being obnoxious.

Modern Warfare 3 will probably have you waterboard someone or pull their finger nails out just to up the ante.

and i was like HOLY F**& sh*t! i stayed back and just watched these guys mow down the airport, i felt kind of sad for these people...even though they weren't people..and that's where i got it. Shock parts seem to evoke emotion that draw people in...for some reason the opening lines stick with me..what does he say "Sammy boy remember Russia"

I killed everyone of those civilians. I found it really entertaining, you know why? Because it's a video game and nothing more.

I'm sorry the way it played out with you having to kill hundreds of bystanders is just wrong. First of all if I had the choice I would have killed them all on the Elevator the second it opened. Sure it wouldn't help build the story but that is what a normal person would say should have happened. I'm not defending the game or knocking it, I just think it was a little to much. They could have had it to where the player couldn't go through with what was happening and turned on them only to get killed in the end.

They could have played it out in many different ways.

Honestly undercover or not how could he live with himself after killing that many innocent people. And before you anti-american Aholes get started "We don't kill innocent people!" Yes somepeople do get caught in battles and die that's war.
