Nintendo has been well-known for its lack of enthusiasm when it comes to game demos. However, it looks as though Nintendo may be changing its tune.
Awesome, I think this is a good move and I hope it eventually extends to full retail games.
Wow, you stole the words right out of my mouth!
Doubt there will be full retail demo's since the wiis internal memory is so small...
The Wii's internal memory is big enough for small demos but it would go over Nintendo's set cap for downloadables. For instance Tales of Vesperia's demo on Xbox Live was around 270mb, well within the Wii's size capacity and Wii games won't be as big as Vesperia.
"I hope it eventually extends to full retail games" Is that why Nintendo is releasing SMG2 on an optical disc? This company is stuck in the past and doesn't want to move on. For example, its exactly like fashion, society will eventually be different in a decade or so. What I'm saying, if this company is so stubborn to change, they will get left behind for definite. Plus they only make video games, so they will be over with, if they don't change to the times. And people thought SONY was doomed when they make other products than PS3, LOL!!! EDIT: Down below, oh sorry to burst your bubble, SMG2 is an expansion and should have been on Wiiware but it obviously would't have sold digitally well ;) I wonder how they would have priced it too... 160000 points? Lol as if kids aren't taught to count money from Primary school "DLC is possible on the Wii and has been from day one as well...." But-but-but I had my Wii from Day 1, it never had Wii ware at all. It was launched in 2008 BTW.
SMG2 is on a full retail disc because it's actually a sequel with new mechanics being introduced(mostly through Yoshi). DLC is possible on the Wii and has been from day one as well.... EDIT: But DLC for games has been possible since day one, it just wasn't used. I'm not talking about the Wiiware service. If SMG2 is supposed to be an expansion then so are the majority of games released... like pretty much every sequel to a current gen game... the games that shouldn't be classed as expansions would be the minority. The reason the point system is used mainly so they can call what rates they want in each country and it doesn't have to change because of fluctuating currency, which is actually a big issue for Japanese companies with the strong yen. You're obviousy just a troll anyway... huh...
I love your dot dot dots...:) I should have called you an idiot the first time round. "the games that shouldn't be classed as expansions would be the minority." Like what? Wii sports Resort? Wii Fit plus? New Super Mario Bros. Wii? You obviously never had your Wii on day 1, what a shame for a BIG Nintendo Fanboy- "But DLC for games has been possible since day one, it just wasn't used." "If SMG2 is supposed to be an expansion then so are the majority of games released" NO THEN, It is MEANT to be an expansion, I'm sure EvilTwin will agree. I mean COME ON! NSMBW? Seriously, that game is on DS, oh "NEW" mechanics did you say? LOL at Nintendo's lineup next year. MOM isn't an expansion but SMG2 is. See the difference?
DLC has been possible from day one, as has the ability to update(or patch) games as well as the ability to bypass Friend Codes, they weren't utilised. The ability for DLC probably wasn't utilised as it would have had to been regulated by the external publishers and there was no shopping infrastructure in place(which is what the Wii shopping channel brought). I don't get why you brought up the Wii line of game but Wii Sports Resort would be a sequel, whilst Wii Fit Plus IS an expansion, hence being sold at a lower price. No I didn't have my Wii on day one, I got it a couple of weeks after launch... point being? You're quite obviously trolling now... I mean New Super Mario Bros Wii is a completely different game than NSMB Wii. Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't an expansion as Metroid Prime 2 and 3 aren't expansions to Metroid Prime 1. Metroid: Other M is a total different take on the franchise. You clearly don't understand the concept of a straight sequel.
"DLC >>>>>has<< ;<<< been possible from day one, as has the ability to update." Contradiction? The ability for DLC probably >>>>>wasn't< <<<< utilised as it would have had to been regulated by the external publishers and there was >>>>>no<< <<< shopping infrastructure in place. Contradiction? "regulated by the external publishers" WTF are you on about? All they have to do is say the: price, the name of the company, say when was it licensed, trademarks etc. It obviously wouldn't be on there if they never asked for permission in the first place. "You're quite obviously trolling now... I mean New Super Mario Bros Wii is a completely different game than NSMB Wii." Thanks, for your short-sightedness you can't elaborate. "Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't an expansion as Metroid Prime 2 and 3 aren't expansions to Metroid Prime 1." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^ ^^^^^^ "SMG2 is a sequel with new mechanics being introduced(>>>>> ;mostly through Yoshi<<<<<).&qu ot; Contradiction again? You knew exactly what I meant SMG2 being an expansion because the Wii's lineup is pathetic for 2010. Instead of making a LOZW they make it for DS why? Did LOZ sell really poor compared too MG or what? You clearly can't see either. All of this casual nonsense. Brain Training More Brain Training Now the Wii series Wii series with added waggle etc. So they abandon their former userbase for 4 years so far. WTF are they doing? "You clearly don't understand the concept of a straight sequel." Yes I do. Well straight sequels in gaming are meant to carry on the story of the previous games. Like the Metroid Prime series all took part in different places and I know they are heavily story-based. SMG2 is "featuring" Yoshi and TBH if it falls under SMG1's playtime it is an expansion even though it has no story really. I mean, I bet you was even thinking where&what the hell is Nintendo going to do with Mario next. Well there you have it.
No, I did not contradict myself, the ability to have DLC was there from day one but the publisher would have had to host their own server with the content as well as working out their own payment policy(ie. using Paypal). Once the Wii shopping channel was introduced it meant they didn't have to host their own server because Nintendo was hosting one and they was a payment system in place(the points). The possibility of the DLC *was* always there, but it wasn't used. Oh, I made a mistake I meant New Super Mario Bros Wii is not the same as New Super Mario Bros but you just look like a douche for thinking that makes you look right. Again, absolutely no contradiction, SMG2 is introducing new gameplay mechanics, mostly with how you use Yoshi. Plus you've not gone on to attacking the Wii's lineup which had nothing to do with the discussion in a very bad attempt to divert attention away from what you were saying. That's irrelevant and quite obvious trolling as well. Whether something is a sequel or an expansion is not decided by how much plot it has, or the length of either. Some games simply do not have plot and many expansions continue the plot of the games, are they sequels?
NSMB wii is a completely new game... I love how you argue about things you are completely ignorant of and yet call others ignorant... Sad really. If you had half a clue you wouldnt be arguing. Pretty sure you only call SMG2 an expansion because you read it somewhere and are going to change your story in any way to make yourself look right... I agree with Spoony but then again I am not an idiot like you...And pulling up the optical disc thing... Just moronic.. God of War 3 is only an expansion because it comes on a disc... Thats exactly what you are trying to say there but I am sure you will completely disagree with GOW3 being an expansion
Considering they could be saved to the sd card and then stream loaded into regular memory (bit by bit) as opposed to fully loaded like current games launched from sd card. I just like the fact that demos are coming to the wii. Now the ds isnt alone anymore in getting trialware. I think dsiware should have demos as well.
This is good news. Hopefully Nintendo will continue with the demos and potentially expand the idea to retail releases.
Finally. Been waiting for this, hopefully loads of demos turn up like PSN or Marketplace.
It is a brilliant idea. I've been waiting for demos!
As long as they don't charge for them, it's a good move.
eat that up reggie, your "philosophies at nintendo" can suck it. There was a time where he was BS'ing about how demos never tell enough about how good a game is.( while he is right in a sense, it was his excuuse why there are no demo's at all) Nintendo should really do the same for wii-games, 2 gigs of storage should be enough for a wii demo, especially when you consider the fact you will delete it after having your try.
Not only that though, but demos can also be stored and run through an SD card.
wait wasnt there a problem that it first needed to be chached into the internal ram before it could run.
You are right Sidar. In order for games to be played on Wii from an SD card they must first be moved onto the internal memory. They are not played from the card itself but copied over. The problem would be getting every game demo down to 300mb or so so everyone can play it. While it has 512, all the channels you cant move and updates to the system use that 512 also.
Pehaps these are the first signs of an improved online component to the wii. Something sorely lacking. In the meantime, any updates to how the wii works makes me happy. Hell I am so easily amused that the smoothness of the video in nintendo week gets me every time. I just go... my god.. it's streaming at dvd quality. THEY NEED TO DO MORE WITH THIS!
