ARS: There are certain stereotypes attached to Japanese Role-Playing Games which, over the years, have proven to generally be true. They take a while to get into. They're overly-serious. They take a really long time to beat. Thus, when a quality JRPG pops up that manages to buck even one of these trends, we often take notice. When we find a game that is able to avoid all three of them, though, it's pretty much impossible not to play it.
Originally a Flash game on the Web, Half-Minute Hero was fleshed out and ported to the PSP this year. All of the original fast-paced features are still present, and a healthy amount of new ones have been added, too. But, even better, the game never really takes itself too seriously.
