The reversal in fortunes of gaming's two biggest football franchises is a fascinating study of urgency versus complacency, of one developer embracing the new generation and of the other being stuck firmly in the past. FIFA has undoubtedly taken the mantle of the classiest representation of the beautiful game, building from scratch to take advantage of modern hardware. PES, meanwhile, is still running on a hopelessly outdated engine, creaking under the burden of time and fierce competition.
