Japan: Bayonetta PS3 sales double Xbox 360 sales

Destructoid: Well, there's no accounting for taste. Despite the fact that Bayonetta's lead platform is the Xbox 360 and that the PS3 version of the game is a somewhat sub-par port by Sega, Japanese gamers have spoken, and decided that the PS3 version was worth buying twice as much as the better version. Oh Japan, you and your crazy xenophobia.

really? So do we call Americans out when 360 games sell more?

No
its install base

Japan leads the world in electronics and they know what is well made and what is not!

Saaking3273d ago

hahaha, "Xbox 360 version selling out?" Yes, because they made few copies.

BadboyCivic3603273d ago

Do the math,PS3 out number 360 20:1 in Japan so naturally the game would sell more on PS3...

darthv723273d ago

Wouldnt it be something like 4:1? Isn't the ps3 4mil to the 360 1mil? Not sure on exact numbers. It is only obvious that install base is why the ps3 version is double the 360.

StanLee3273d ago

The PS3 has an install base 3 times that of the XBox 360 in Japan. It's like people being surprised the XBox 360 version of a game is outselling the PS3 version in North America. The XBox 360 has an install base twice as large. This isn't newsworthy.

raztad3273d ago

Does destructoid pretend PS3 owners buy a xbox just for playing Bayonetta?

With the massive difference in installed bases is obvious that even a small percentage of japanese Ps3 owners buying the game it would outsell the xbox version.

pixelsword3273d ago

Well, there's no accounting for taste.

The PS3 version shifted 95,000 copies on launch day, compared to the modest 45,000 copies on the 360. Japan's biggest gaming magazine, Famitsu, rated the 360 version of the game two points higher than its PS3 port, but even that wasn't enough to influence Japanese customers.

I think this says quite a bit about how unpopular the 360 still is in Japan, that a shoddy port can outsell its superior counterpart by two to one. Whether that speaks more ill of Japan's gamer culture or Microsoft's efforts in the East, however, is for you to decide.

********

@ BadboyCivic360:

I'm glad that you did the math, but remember: that same math applies when a 360 multiplatform game outsells the PS3 in the States as well.

Parapraxis3273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

Jim Sterling never ceases to act like a pompous and immature little tool eh.
By his logic, people who bought a 360 in the US are xenophobes as well.
I guess quality of a product or the games available on a platform never come into play.
What a SCUMBAG.

IdleLeeSiuLung3273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

- That the 360 has barely above quarter of the PS3 user base. Smaller market for the 360!
- Bayonetta sold out on the 360! So that number is the maximum it could have sold regardless of demand.

This means that the PS3 version didn't sell as well as it should, considering DMC sold really well on the PS3.

Any idiot can see that!!!

TotalPS3Fanboy3273d ago

Hell no. Unlike American that are brainwashed by Microsoft and the biased media, the Japanese actually know the truth. And the truth is that the PS3 version is no different from the 360 version. The numbers are the facts.

HolyOrangeCows3273d ago

It's just one of Jim Sterling's pathetic attention whoring articles to get Destructoid some hits.

Eddie201013272d ago (Edited 3272d ago )

Of course it sold more in japan, the install base for the PS3 is 4 times what the 360 is.

The Xbox 360 fanboys are the Xenophobes. Thinking they are somehow being patriotic by buying an American product (that's not made in America) from a less that reputable American company. Support GOOD American companies not bad ones. Plus Sony probably employ's more Americans through its various divisions (BMG Music, Columbia Pictures, Vaio Computers, Bravia TV's, Various electronic divisions, Playstation division, various game Developers plus many more) than Microsoft does. Faulty hardware, over priced accessories, Unfair business practices, releasing Vista (a faulty OS) then releasing Windows 7 with fixes that Vista should have gotten without the need to release a new expensive OS. Those things do not deserve support or praise from American's.

mint royale3272d ago

An article which Sony and MS can hate together! Now that is rare!

pippoppow3272d ago

Clearly made by a devote 360 fanatic trying to spread the word that the 360 has better games. Of course it's a 3rd party game but whenever a 360 game outperforms a PS3 version even if only by a few % points the fanatics see it as an opportunity to highlight some advantage the 360 has. Sites like Destructoid, Kotaku and others are quick to point out any pluses for the 360 and downplay or spin anything PS3 related. Some of these sites need to straighten up or just go away.

Sitdown3272d ago

"Hell no. Unlike American that are brainwashed by Microsoft and the biased media, the Japanese actually know the truth. And the truth is that the PS3 version is no different from the 360 version. The numbers are the facts."

Ummmm, so what you are saying is that the ps3 having a bigger install base in Japan has nothing to do with the reason why it sold more than the 360? I mean seriously, I have no problem with you being a "ps3fanboy", but I do have a probably when you make delusional statements as fact. I mean I am confused, are you saying that Famitsu is an American company brainwashed by Microsoft or are they biased media....cause they are the first ones that I saw make reports concerning the difference between the 360 and ps3 versions.

http://scrawlfx.com/2009/10... Unless the article is fake, I could have missed it.

Ravage273272d ago

wonder what does he have against Sony? He is so blinded by hate that he can't see the fact that with a install base 3 times larger than 360's, the PS3 version was always going to outsell its counterpart substantially.

Epic fail.

TotalPS3Fanboy3272d ago (Edited 3272d ago )

"Ummmm, so what you are saying is that the ps3 having a bigger install base in Japan has nothing to do with the reason why it sold more than the 360?"

Yes. I am very sure that that was what I was saying.

"I mean seriously, I have no problem with you being a 'ps3fanboy', but I do have a probably when you make delusional statements as fact."

Those numbers are not delustions. They're very real. PS3 sales double 360. Facts right there.

"I mean I am confused, are you saying that Famitsu is an American company brainwashed by Microsoft or are they biased media..."

Yes. You are confused. No. I didn't not said anything about Famitsu.

"...cause they are the first ones that I saw make reports concerning the difference between the 360 and ps3 versions... http://scrawlfx.com/2009/10... Unless the article is fake, I could have missed it."

My 20/20 vision eyes disagree with that article. My HDTV also disagree with thier intentionally fake wash-out colors tv settings for the PS3.

lightningsax3272d ago

I don't think it's 45,000 Japanese people analyzing technology and purchasing PS3's that did this. It's just the implied culture of the systems. As a proud PS3 owner, when I bought my system near launch, I expected the "more Japanese" titles to come out for it. More turn-based JRPG's, anime stylings, and complex storylines. Turns out it didn't completely work that way (although there's a great list of the top 5 PS3 RPG's that got some notice today), but I've still got just a PS3.

People that wanted DMC4 before it existed figured that it would come out on at least the PS3, and only the Xbox360 if there was a multiplatform deal. Bayonetta continues the DMC line. It's more about fan groupings than system comparisons.

Personally, I'm offended by the crappy job Sega did on the port, and I'm going to wait until this game is a good 20 bucks before I think of purchasing it - and this is for the same reason. The big J-style action game fans own PS3's - they couldn't at least get it up to par with the original version? That's Valve-like for no reason. Actually, I'm going to buy it used just to spite Sega. I'll give them money when the new Panzer Dragoon comes out. That was a joke - ha ha - fat chance!

Ah, where are the bots saying stuff in the other thread about the 360 version selling out? wanna talk sales bots? lmao.

Eddie201013272d ago

Destructoid needs to get off of Microsoft's Dic. Stupid tittle stupid article. If the Xbots were so proud and confident in there fanboy system they would not have to make stupid claims and the fanboy's would not have to rally around such stupidness.

Godmars2903273d ago

And the 360 version sold out.

yada-yada-yada-blah-blah-blah ...Japanese are racist.

There are more PS3s there, the game's not worth buying a console for even if it got a perfect review score. Get over it.

Godmars2903273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

"Japan's biggest gaming magazine, Famitsu, rated the 360 version of the game *two points* higher than its PS3 port.

I think this says quite a bit about how unpopular the 360 still is in Japan, that a *shoddy port* can outsell its superior counterpart by two to one."

Two points = shoddy port?

This guy has the nerve to call the Japanese xenophobic?

Kamikaze1353273d ago

Because one magazine equals the feelings of an entire country.

pixelsword3273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

To state that the country would flock to one version because of the massive "two point" difference would suggest that the Japanese are a whole, unified society; which is far from the truth and a stereotype of the Japanese. The Burakumin (sp?), the Korean immigrants, and Japanese with Dutch/English last names, Japanese people with a 2000+ year lineage with wavy hair and natural afros are just a few examples of peoples and cultures within Japan.

Parapraxis3273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

Oh c'mon, who doesn't love a good stereotype!?
I haven't bought an XBOX or XBOX 360, that must mean that mean I hate UHMERICA. lol

lightningsax3272d ago

Good points, GodMars. I forgot about the selling-out thing. I'm sure that a lack of copies of the game got in the way of 360 sales!

SaiyanFury3272d ago

The fact of the matter is that the PS3 has a larger install base in Japan than the 360. Debate sales numbers all you'd like, the PS3 outsells the 360 in Japan roughly 3 or 4:1. The simple fact of the matter is that the Japanese would rather play a Japanese developed game on a Japanese system that they identify with rather than a console by an American company that has a low installation base in the same territory. That's not fanboy opinion, it's a simply logistical fact. I hope that the 360 version of Bayonetta does well, since it's the better version. But, speaking personally, I'll be getting the PS3 version simply because I'm more familiar with the PS brand and the controller. I'm more comfortable with it than the 360's shooter designed model. People, get whichever version you want. If it's on the 360, then great. If it's on the PS3 then fine again. It's ultimately up to you as a gamer.

redsquad3273d ago (Edited 3273d ago )

To the dimwitted Microsoft android lackey spouting drivel in their 2.1 post...

You're SO GLAD you finally have a 'superior' version of something (anything!) that you can flaunt about don't you? Enjoy stroking yourself over that whole TWO POINTS difference between games chum, but don't peddle nonesense here.

Come back when you have the 'superior' version of UNCHARTED 2... Oh, hang on a minute...

The Iron Sheik3272d ago

The fact that you pick a name like that in a year where Sony has been humiliating M$ in games all year shows what an idiot you are and that your opinion is worthless.
