Any so-so exclusive game in the other platform gets always 8+ . When repeating the same formula the comment is: "game is incredible FUN" 9/10.

Well... I guess I can see where he's coming from with it "being the same formula."

My friend was over last Saturday and is a big fan of Ratchet & Clank. It's one of his favorite series along with Jak & Daxter. The first thing he stated when he picked up the controller was "They basically copied the formula from the PS2 iterations. Wow... this is exactly like the old games except with touched up graphics."

Of course, he loved the game, but when a fan needs to point that out, then would it really kill the franchise to add some new things?

I personally enjoyed Tools of Destruction, since I haven't played many R&C games, but you guys shouldn't just criticize the reviewer because he states things that can actually bug people. I know no one would want R&C 8 years from now, using the same mechanics. It would feel completely archaic.

Eurogamer is getting too easy to predict these days. Honestly, I refreshed numerous times when i saw Uncharted 2 got a 10. It was too obvious Ratchet was going to get a 7, 8 the most. Honestly, I'll make the guesses up right now:

Halo 3: ODST had an entirely new campaign with new characters, new gadgets, new weapons and a new co-op mode. I think it even ran on an updated version of the engine. I agree it shouldn't have been $60, but that was a terrible analogy.

although i'm getting this and love the ratchet series, how awesome would it be if ratchet had like 4 player co-op? you go through areas and level up your character, pick up items and weapon mods, customize your character; it would be kind of like a MMO/dungeon crawler kind of online game.

i don't think competitive works for ratchet, but you can't go wrong with co-op.

EDIT: i forgot about the arenas from previous ratchet games. fighting an onslaught of enemies, wave after wave, would be bad ass.

Ratchet and Clank ACIT has an entirely new campaign with new characters, it has new gadgets and new weapons. It doesn't have a new co-op but I personally am not buying the game for multiplayer. After beating the single player twice, I shall go to UC2's, with or without a co-op in the game.

I have not played the game. I do not have a good basis to determine whether this is a good score or a bad score for the game. What I do know is that Eurogamer has a long and standing history of rating PS3 games below the trend _unless_ they are from a UK game studio. And, so far, their score is the lowest one on Metacritic.

When Eurogamer almost constantly provides a score for PS3 games that are within the lowest arc of the standard deviation and not the same with Wii and XBox 360 games, then there is obviously something off with their review process and scoring.

I think in the IGN review, he also stated that if you're somewhat tired of R&C, this game wont be for you, simply because it is basically the same game that's been updated.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but I can understand where they are coming from. As a PS2-era Ratchet fan, I played the all 4 of the games they released to completion (Except the first, likely because I had already played the superior second). Soon later, I picked up Size Matters for the PSP and completed it.

Then came Future. Future, is by NO MEANS a bad game. In fact, it was the best R&C at the time. But after playing the numerous games before it, I couldn't sit down and play the exact same game for the 6th time. Sure half the guns were new, but after seeing the all of the staples from the originals with new skins (Looking at you, Plasma Beast and Shard Reaper) I couldn't do it again. Maybe if trophy support is patched in, or I get a craving for R&C I'll go back to it.

Crack in Time still deserves an 8/10 at the least. Just because it's using the same formula does not make it a bad game. Anyone new to the franchise will find something to like here, regardless. But for me, until I can sit down and play TOD + Q4B, I'll wait on this one.

They are taking points away from a GREAT game because it does what it OWN series did before... Where was ODST losing it's 3 points or more for not bringing a whole lot new to the table?

I just think it's unfair to review a son based off of a father... just because Anakin and Luke can both use the force doesn't make them the same. It's a continuation of a story... I agree and disagree.... I mean do you really think they said 'Write whatever you like and no one will review it. Just put up whatever score you like"... I'm sure it passed through at least a couple of people before it got published. Same with every game. I mean did no one say "Wait a minute... That seems a little low." Still though there should be a "Standard" when reviewing a game for each site/mag. I mean look at the controversy of UC2 with Gametrailers. I am a GT fan myself. Watched every invisible walls episode for the last year and really like their reviews. However Shane docked points for not being "original"... halo 3 wasn't original, Forza 3 wasn't Original and because it was "Someone else" the same points weren't docked. having some kind of consistency is a good thing imo... like "this is what we look for Pacing, Originality, scale, Balance, Fun, etc... and based off these we get an average" because as it is now it seems like "Game was great but played a lot like the last one. -2 points because I have a different name then someone else"...

I guess my point being. The game is... From what I can see... ACIT is better then TOD. Hence it should get a better score not a lower one. Keeping in mind with the times of course but yes... At least the same.

Why are reviewers all of a sudden caring about games being original? They said nothing when Halo: ODST, Batman: AA and others came out, and those games in similar terms had nothing new to offer. Reviews should be based on how much a reviewer recommends a game. If it's fun, high-quality and worth purchasing, it should get a high review. It's very uncommon for a game to come around that is original, and when they do they are usually very average. Portal was a very original game, but was incredibly short. Scribblenauts was original, but was boring within a couple hours.

Other reviewers must not be on the same page as me. Oh well.

odst can be played stealthy, ammo is a big problem and has an open world feel. All new to halo's world. As for batman it was a good game for the brand.

Another thing is at some point if a series doesn't grow it goes stale. halo odst is the weakest as far as sales and hype are concerned even with changes. Halo is also higher up on the scale. coming from 10 to 9 whereas r&c was an 8-9 to 7.

also a 10 in 1 genre shouldn't be compared to another genre. people tripping off famitsu's bayonetta 40 when it could be the new standard!

I have reaached a conclusion. Out of all the media on this palnet including movies and comics gamers are some of the most ignorant people I have seen. Everyone is always quick to agree with negative things about a PS3 game but these people are no where in sight when it comes to Microsoft games and Nintendo games? You say that Ratchet and Clank ACIT deserves a low score because it is the same thing over again. So by your logic Mario Galaxy, Gears of War Twilight Princess and Halo ODST should have gotten a least a 5 or a 6 because those games are the same formula, gameplay and lame stories everytime. You can forgive Ratchet, Jax and God of War games because they have personality and story . Games like Mario and Halo are empty shells. Mario is no longer a character but a tool to further Nintendo's reach. And Bungie's attempt to strap a story to the Halo franchise is embrassing to say the least. Where are these people to complain about lame games like these? Out buying them mindlessly no matter what the cost.

Actually I found the story for ODST to be very interesting, especially Sadi's story. I was actually impressed by it's uniqueness and how Sadi's story was integrated into the city.

Just because you are upset about the score Eurogamer gave Ratchet & Clank you shouldn't take it out on other games. Play games for your enjoyment and not what some reviewer thinks or the games metacritic score.

I can see where he's coming from with the 7/10 review. Sure Tools of destruction and quest for booty were great looking, great games, just a tad repetitive. I actually wonder if it's just the fact I've outgrown the audience for them and the story is just too pixar-like and kiddy to keep me interested in seeing where it goes. As good of a game as it is, I just don't think it was made for my age group(25) and my tastes. I think that's what this reviewer experienced, he just didn't realize it. The fact of the matter is this is the whole reason they're probably dumping the ratchet franchise for now as rumored in favor of something more tailored to the PS3 audience.

I finally finished TOD last month, it took me a long time to finish it cause i didn't see much reward in seeing the ending. I was hoping this new game would be different and they'd learn from their mistake from the last game, but i guess it's for the fans and some fans just love the formula and I'm not really one of them. I do love the variety this game brings to the system, there just really isn't another old-school 3d platformer at this level of quality, or looks even close to this good. I'll probably get it at some point, just maybe try to get it later or on sale.

I definitely agree with the marking down PS3 games cause of a double standard where it's OK for one game to be repetitive and the same formula as the last one, but not OK for another- that's just pure fanboyism. And these guys do seem to be pro-360 more often than not.

Man I really really hate this site of fanboys. If it was a 360 game it would be 500 out of 10. They all would have R@C t-shirts on dancing around their 360 shrine. Playing R@C joyfully along with gears and halo for the rest of their lives. Ok well maybe not all that. But really a 7 out 10 this site sucks. I wish N4g had a website ignore option. You know what is funny is that Sony even sends these tools review copies. Haven't they seen their other ps3 exclusives reviews. Well for me R@C is a day 1 purchase. eurogamer is somewhat right, ratchet and clank is getting to a pretty repetitive formula for their games. i thought the biggest differences and upgrades between some sequels were the first ratchet to up your arsenal. each one trumped the last game and each one was pretty much perfect.

thats why insomniac need to come up with some new ideas but still retain the classic gameplay and weapon arsenal from the past.

Halo 3: ODST is no doubt a fun Halo game. but original? hardly. shouldn't it have gotten a 7/10 (according to the flip-flopping fanboys here, a 7/10 is still "above average," so a 7/10 score for Halo 3: ODST isn't bad)?

but since ODST is not original and got a 9/10, shouldn't Ratchet: ACIT get a 9/10 as well, since, in essence, it is a tweaked and upgraded version of Ratchet: TOD, which was, to me, fricking AWESOME?

once again, Eurogamer shows why their reviews are a joke, and not because of the arbitrary score they slap on games, but because they have no consistency in how they score games.

they claim they praise originality while giving high marks to unoriginal games on the 360.

so, basically, THREE PS3 games are worth a 9/10 and above score, while a plethora of 360 games are worth a 9/10 score, even the ones that are unoriginal (ie, sequels like Gears 2, Halo 3, Fable 2, etc, which are pretty much carbon copies of their original games, with tweaks. kind of like, hmm, let's see, RATCHET AND CLANK FUTURE: A CRACK IN TIME).

Eurogamer is a sad, strange lot, and i pity them.

for the record, i'm not saying that Halo 3 and Gears are bad games. i've played them, they are most certainly good, even great games, just not my cup of tea. i just think reviewers need to remember that being objective is part of their job criteria.

even though i personally don't like Halo 3 and Gears, i can understand their appeal to their respective fanbases, and judge the game according to that. i may not own those games, but i certainly wouldn't refrain from recommending them to new Xbox 360 owners that have yet to purchase them.

if A Crack in Time is HALF the game that Tools of Destruction was, it will be an excellent game.

One cannot honestly have expected a good review from Eurogamer for R&C. The comparisons you can make to the Xbox 360 titles that have scored better are moot - it's the inconsistencies within the same text that are very confusing. They basically say it's great; lots of fun, fans will enjoy it and so will newcomers, but it's more of the same? Right, because that's so terrible.

By the way, for Eurogamer, 7/10 is more like fair or average. They have the whole IGN scoring system going on.

This is something I expected to see a lot of in reviews.

The people saying that other games are nothing new and get high scores need to think a little more about this.

Ratchet and clank was always a little different from its humor, to the crazy weapons, its party piece is the crazy different guns and ways of getting around.

and so to lack origionality is a big problem.

Im a huge fan of the series and so naturally I will be buying this but ive definately noticed that guns just ger recycled due to an obvious lack of ideas and frequently the additions make the game a little worse.

What they need to do, and soon is really think. The new game needs to be really different, the guns need to be different, the maps need to be different. It all needs a revamp.

But dont get me wrong, the last game got lower rfeviews but I still loved it, enough to complete it 3 times infact.

I never understand that logic for giving a game a low score. If you look at most of the great franchises, most keep the base formula which made the series so popular. Zelda and Mario(with a few exceptions), Uncharted, Halo hell even God of War and Gears fo War. If the game adds a new story and new weapons and gameplay elements and is a fun game(especially after you said so in the review) how does it warrant a 7? That means every popular series which doesn't totally innovate is automatically average which as we all know doesn't make sense.
