Datel "disappointed" with 360 memory lock-out

Third party peripheral firm Datel, who make a range of Max Memory storage units for Xbox 360, says it's "disappointed" with MS's decision to stop unofficial memory units working with the 360's upcoming dashboard update.

"We are following this issue and awaiting the outcome like everyone else," a Datel rep told CVG.

Money Money Money MONEY!!!!!!!MONNNNNEYY. "Please make all your checks payable to MS. We also accept visa,MasterCard, your soul, blood and American Express. Sorry we don't take Discover."

Join the club Datel they're exclusives look like garbage

StanLee5721d ago

I knew this announcement was aimed at Datel. In an article earlier today, I mentioned Datel's 2 GB and 4 GB Mad Memory memory cards. They're the only products I could think of that would be affected by this announcement.

IdleLeeSiuLung5721d ago

Yeah, 3rd party is not so good unless it is licensed. Like the PS2 Katana memory cards!

Look for officially licensed stuff, because saving $10 isn't worth loosing your save games.

morganfell5721d ago

If you think Datel is disappointed, there are a great many 360 fans that are as of yet unaware of the boom which is about to be lowered. Merry Christmas.

I recently bought a 360 and cannot believe I cant back up saved game data to an external USB device like with my PS3...

Am I missing something ???

PS: And people are all over the "Apple Tax"... Hypocrites.

Always nice to have alternatives, especially if the official products are overpriced. I'd be mad if this happened to me. Once that update hits its paperweight.

rafaleon5721d ago (Edited 5721d ago )

100% agree.

Thats why I choose X360 over PS3 :)

crck5721d ago

I wonder if people truly believe what they type sometimes.

PS3 = $299

360 Elite = $299 (An Arcade + 120gb HD would be at $350 already).
Play and Charge kit = $20
Wifi adapter = $100
Live = $50 a year

That's $299 vs $470 for the first year. Add in another 3 years of Live and you are at $299 vs $620 (for cost of ownership over 4 years). I own all 3 system but come on...

Rafaleon--what the hell are you talking about? You seem a bit confused.

The ps3 uses industry standards for their peripherals. No proprietary technology here.

Wanna replace your HD? Use a standard 2.5" sata drive.

Wanna use your own bluetooth headset? You can do that no prob.

What kind of cable charges the PS3 controllers? USB.

Keyboard and mouse? USB or bluetooth are acceptable.

Wireless internet? Standard on the console. No $100 add-on (Except that early 20gb model). This one annoys me more than anything. How MS has gotten away with charging ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A FRIGGIN WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER is simply beyond me

Get your facts straight man. If you picked the 360 over the PS3 because of some false belief that 360 had better non-official peripherals support, then you are just about the worst shopper i've ever met.

Noob5721d ago (Edited 5721d ago )

PS3 overpriced? It's been the other way around for quite some time now(over two years). And this memory lock-out and PS3 price drop just put the final nail in that coffin(value & choice).

TBH, I don't think you put much thought into that comment. When you do or decide to read the two comments above, you'll realize your choice was a miscalculated mistake ;)

sukru5721d ago

They're not "alternatives", they're basically what we should've been getting.

The maximum size for MS memory cards are 512MB. What datel sells starts at 2/4GBs and can be upgraded to 16GBs via SD cards.

But I found it "too good to be true" back in the day, and postponed my purchase. Fortunately I don't have one of those, and will not be losing my storage.

Is Microsoft going to try and monopolise 360 hard drive sales? Nah MS wouldn't do that, it would defeat the purpose of being an American company, and saying buy American, if they restrict people's freedom like that.

DrRobotnik5721d ago

Look on the back of your 360......it says made in China lol. and the hard drive was made in Thailand LOL. Microsoft, living the american dream lol.

The last game console to be designed and manufactured in the U.S. was the Atari Jaguar.

djfullshred5721d ago

Patriotism has nothing to do with this.

Saaking5721d ago

I'm disappointed with the failbox.

Ron_Burgundy5721d ago

most people have been disappointed with the 360, especially if its been a recent purchase

seems that the only reason it's bought is for halo

but anyway back to the article, M$ just wants there products to sell and not 3rd party products

more money for them so they don't care

neonlight455721d ago

guess that 150$ is mandatory

The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.

I hope it's a remake of the 1st game. But it's probably just the PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2

OtterX2d ago

I hope a PS5 upgrade launches on the same day as announcement & it costs no more than $10. I already bought the Ultimate Edition once, they got good money from me.

I stopped playing completely 2 years ago until they did 60fps. I really didn't expect it would take this long & I didn't want to start completely over on PC.

GamerRN1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

I've been waiting for 60 to finish the game myself

OtterX1d 11h ago

hopefully we'll know by the end of tomorrow! *crosses fingers*

dmonee2d ago

My wish is that its optimized for current gen machines, with some sort of story expansion. Undead nightmare 2! My 2nd wish is that it just shadow drops on the day of the announcement!.

Lionsguard2d ago

Give me my RDR2 Undead Nightmare already.
