Wii outsells PS3 this week in Japan DSi 52,497 PSP 44,230 Wii 29,053 PS3 28,671 DSL 5,307 PS2 2,547 360 3,221
PS3 finally toppled. Although it is 1 week after the Wii Fit+ and price drop for the Wii, while there were no new software releases for the PS3 either.
Low sales for both though this week, kinda disappointing
I think I read that some schools in JP actually have courses that require the DSi because of its web browser and camera ability. It would certainly explain the low DSL sales. Or it could be all the quirky games for it. 360 outsells the PS2!!! woohooo (spin it right round, baby right round)
I was expecting more from the wii after the price drop, sales should be up for awhile, but it never really had the big week I was expecting? Currently both ps3 and wii sales are a virtual tie but, I thought ps3 slim sales were going to hold around 50k for at least a few months, but Japan just seems to eat those handhelds, I think wii will outsell ps3 again until the next big game, FF? maybe?
Wii is doing great considering everybody in Japan should have a Wii by now. Furthermore, Wii then to get smaller upticks that however lasts longer than the competition.
@1.4: Then how does DSi outsell Wii although there are 30 million DS and only 8 million Wii in Japan? Edit: And PS2 has sold over 25 million in Japan. Wii isn't even near those sales either.
well done Wii! Back on top - good for Nintendo!
You are right. I actually saw that on my local news channel. Several grade schools in Japan make it a requirement for students to own the DS. This was before the release of the DSi! They were using Brain Age, mostly the math and logic apps.

"Fake" this article. This is based on "Famitsu's Estimates."
Huh? Why does that make it fake?
Wii still selling? seems like there are more mommas and Grandpas than gamers this days, but the trend starting to change, bright present/future for SONY
I wouldn't say that yet... New Super Mario Bros Wii is likely to be one the biggest games in Japan this year, perhaps even outselling FF XIII. Considering that NSMB DS has sold almost 6 million in Japan and no FF has ever sold over 4 million there it wouldn't be any suprise. And don't compare to SMG because japanese have never cared about 3D Mario, they like 2D Mario much more.
Look at the Laugh-Box 360 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
PS3 and Wii are pretty close together! Although they are both a bit under par (or above par, whatever). Oh, and clearly Japan is a handheld kind of place.... DSi and PSP nearly double (and in some cases, quadrupled?) anything else on those charts. Meanwhile, PS2 and 360 keep fighting it out! Come on, you two!
Low sales for the wii and Ps3, this is not the week.
Everyone seems to be forgetting these are just Estimates... Let's wait for Media Crate figures ... But the Wii sales are slightly disappointing to say the least ... PS3 sales are sorta disappointing also but atleast it keeping up with the Wii......
Do you know if all the sales made online are added into the estimate? Or is it just retail stores?
Considering the Wii had a price cut, it's more disappointing it's not doing more. The PS3 numbers really don't matter once December hits lol.
