10 Most Brilliant Innovators of 2009: Microsoft Natal writes: "We need innovators. Sure, we need their inventions: the medical tools, the batteries for storing wind power, the efficient engines and agile robots. But we also need their spirit of inquiry to inspire us, their mix of skill and imagination to remind us how real work gets done. PM has been presenting the Breakthrough Awards for five years now, and we've considered thousands of potential winners. So we know. The fundamentals are strong. Innovation promises a brighter future. And the breakthroughs keep coming. On October 8, we have invited representatives from all 10 of this year's brilliant innovators to celebrate their remarkable achievements."

Popular Mechanics has awarded Microsoft's Project Natal as one of the "Most Brilliant Innovators of 2009."

a very innovative fail I suppose

PROFIT3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

so copying PSeye and the wii is innovation?
looks more like copy n paste, the old m$ motto.

when is HOME for xbox coming out again? or that littlebigplanet ripoff? the more u disagree the more TRUTHFUL my statements become.
its ok, we know disagreeing is the only thing u can do.

remember all those rrod articles, same people disagreeing with the reports. What was the conclusion after your 1,000,000,000,000 disagrees? rrod exists

or how about the rsx>360 articles. you guys all disagreed on that too. yet here we are in 2009 and the ps3 exclusives wipe the floor with the 360.
go ahead disagree all you want, we ALL know where this gen is heading

PLAY BEYOND dvd and weak hardware that oeverheats

gamesR4fun3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

there pancake theory was so weak really these guys r tools nothing more

i mean really building falls at a perfect free fall rate into its own footprint and they come up with a bogus story bout how it happened. That and like the 9/11 commission wouldnt touch building 7 with a ten foot pole. So not really wiling to trust anything they say about anything.

chrisulloa3346d ago

Lol, Natal is hardly an EyeToy. Scanning, Voice Recognition, etc. PS3 wand however is almost an exact replica of the Wii-mote.

Defectiv3_Detectiv33346d ago

Must be nice to win an award for a product that ISNT EVEN OUT YET!

54percent3346d ago

awww cmon... natal innovates failure

TheBlackSmoke3346d ago

"Lol, Natal is hardly an EyeToy. Scanning, Voice Recognition, etc. PS3 wand however is almost an exact replica of the Wii-mote."

So basically the only difference between pseye and natal are two gimmicks to turn your 360 on. I thought natal is the evolution of how we will play in the future?

The wand motion control is the evolution of the wii mote. Using the pseye tech sony INVENTED (not bought) they have achieved the precision the wii mote should of had.

I personally dont care to much for motion controls but if the next gen consoles are going to do it then sony has the right idea. Sony wil be able to make its version of a zelda esque sword and shield game whilst MS will have you being a mime in front your tv.

Natal innovative? LMFAO. Now that's a funny joke.

gaminoz3346d ago

What, waving another wiimote is?

If it indeed works, the Natal could be very innovative...I mean NO controller?

BaSeBaLlKiD7213346d ago

@ gaminoz

PS2 Eyetoy says hello...

FiftyFourPointTwo3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

Admit it. Every single person who played Natal looked stupid.

Blaze9293346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

Bring in the eye toy comments....

EDIT: Oh wait, theres one right now.

Everyone just ignore the fact that Natal is being "planned" (quote...PLANNED) for more use than just gaming alone....nevermind PC use...nevermind all that. Its just a eye toy 2.0 everyone. It's been tested by every consumer already and that is the judgment we can fairly give it; eye toy 2.0. Nothing to see here. The PS Wands though, now THAT is innovative!

AridSpider3346d ago

Yep, becuase we ALL tested and tried out Natal already.

JasonXE3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

You think the PS wands are inno...wait...I see what you did there -_-...

HolaTarola3346d ago

always defending Microsoft ;)

jjohan353346d ago

It's certainly being planned for more than just gaming. It's being planned for the pedophile market. Who the heck wants to talk to your TV screen at a fake little boy??

Blaze9293346d ago

What the hell is there to defend? Microsoft didnt even make Natal so automatically this article fails. I never once even mentioned Microsoft.

TheBlackSmoke3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

FYI Microsoft actually bought the technology (like everything else)not create it.

Its just a fact its an eye toy with z-axis, great for the casual gamer (does MS even know their demographic?) but otherwise its going to be nothing more than the tacked on PS3 six-axis equivalent for the 360 in hardcore games.

Tewi-Inaba3346d ago

From what I remember seeing Natal is also implementing voice recognition.

This could be a very big thing ( or a huge failure, can go either way depending on how it's done )

disagree with me all you'd like but Voice Recognition in gaming would be amazing, especially towards cinematic games.

WIIIS13346d ago

360 > PS3. 360 + Natal >>>>> PS3. Truth hurts.

HolyOrangeCows3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

The ball and steering demos and concept videos? Pfft.

Concept is innovation and talk is action (Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize - ROFL! As he sends out more troops to Afghanistan.)?
This world is going bonkers.

IdleLeeSiuLung3346d ago

Seeing all the constant hate here (and on other Natal articles) and the positive light in the media indicates to me that Natal is very likely to be a success.

The haters can go and hate, because this is just like that ridiculous claim that a review score of 9.3 for Uncharted 2 is biased. How does a stellar score of 9.3 somehow become a negative. How many games get a score of 9.3? In my mind, these are not gamers, they are constant haters that probably are miserable in their lives! Go hate will I enjoy!!!

Final_Rpg3346d ago

That was unnecessary and only served to shepherd conflict.

bjornbear3346d ago

Play Beyond.

The truth is, Natal is genuinely the only / best console innovation of 2009 i won't deny that.

But thats all it really is =P

JokesOnYou3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

"10 Most Brilliant Innovators of 2009: Microsoft Natal"

Popular Mechanics is a well known and respected Science magazine thats been around for a very long time.

Micro should use this in their next PR news about Natal. Its not often gaming recieves praise outside of the gaming community, especially from a highly respected source like Popular Mechanics. Look at some of the other winners, all are really amazing projects.

Not surprising this news is going to bring alot tears from the sony extremists....sorry guys, they don't give out dildo awards. Dry your eyes kiddies. lol

CptBach3346d ago

"The PS Wands though, now THAT is innovative!"

Nobody said the wand was innovative and it certainly did not receive an award

slayorofgods3346d ago (Edited 3346d ago )

Natal sucks, The PS3 slim model is the innovation of 2009.
