Starcraft 2 Officially Announced

IGN updates on StarCraft II directly from the show floor.

Editor's note: "I'm writing this from a wireless connection on Blizzard' WWI show floor. Their opening ceremony is set to start any minute now. As the ceremony continues there'll be fragmented updates below. Expect more details throughout the presentation unless this wireless connection screws up. Also, expect typos. All timestamps are local time in Seoul, South Korea.

FMV sequence in a spaceship - looks Terran - zooming in on a metal door - door opening - reveals a guy with a cigar in chains - prisoner - door shuts behind him - there's so much bass the room is shaking - guy steps into some kind of metallic devicce - legs are strapped in - guy rising toward ceiling - Korean text on screen got people very excited - another part of the machine is dropping metal arms on him - machine whirring - applying armor to his torso - extremly detailed visuals here - now guy is strapping on gloves - armor is molding together - seems like a Terran marine - rockets turn on - zerg now onscreen - Marine delivers a line - StarCraft 2 officially announced."

My favorite game of all time finally gets some TLC...I hope it delivers in every aspect just like the first.

Now, this is a game that has to become bigger than World Of Warcraft, Halo3 and all other famous games around. It must become a true sequel to STARCRAFT.

I have never played a starcraft game before as I am not a big pc gamer. I dont see how people can bee so excited over a real time strategy game.

Starcraft reminds me a lot of Halo.

It's nothing revolutionary, easy enough to learn, and doesn't and didn't have the best graphics around.

The great thing about Starcraft is that it's just so damn well balanced, much like Halo. It's not a resources hog like some games are, so things like frame-rate hitches and what-not are never a worry. That's beside the point though...

I really think the balance and simplicity is what makes it so spectacular. It's undoubtedly the RTS embodiment of chess. Every can play it, and probably well enough at that, but masters of the art will shine beyond what any average or even some seasoned players will...just like in chess and Halo...

Give it a shot, it's a brilliant game, and since it's release has been my favorite game of all time, regardless of platform or timeframe, and I'm not even an avid PC gamer(although I do own a gaming PC...go figure).

You may not end up liking it still, but hey, it's worth a shot.

Blizzard, quite blatantly, ripped off Warhammer 40k, which has been around for 30 years and I have always wondered how Blizzard never got sued by Games Workshop. I am really let down in regards to the graphics of SCII. I mean, come on, it's been what, ten years since Starcraft was released and the SCII only looks 15% better than Starcraft?
