Footage of PS3 Stereoscopic 3D Gameplay Uncovered

It seems you need a special screen to be able to take full advantage of the stereoscopic 3D vision. Least, the guys on NeoGAF are saying so.

3D- XYZ, last I checked most TV's don't output in 3 dimension so I don't see how that works.

Oh you mean the 360 eye toy thing, well yeah I suppose that reads 3D, lucky life doesn't have pop in like every game on the 360 :P

Also BTW PS motion is 3D, it detects UP, LEFT and Forward movement.

And btw the PS3 also does 4-D so yeah, I believe that's something that you get when you don't have a cheap HDD-Less DVD using 2004 PC... or the 360.

Very, VERY compelling. I especially like how everything was rendered in real-time, and these were all generated on the fly thus resulting in smaller file size.

Would make a great addition to a lot of sandbox games. For games that stress having a "living" world with unique NPC cycles and day-night time cycles, it'd be awesome to see things actually grow rusted, old, broken, degraded, etc. It'd be a reward just booting the game after a few months or so just to see how far things have changed in the game world. :)

Nah, the true fun cna be had in Sims games. Imagine doing WHAT EVER you want till the end of time just messing with weather.

I think stuff like that will never be widely used but the first game to use it will be hailed as the coming of christ.

Due to a fairly rare eyesight condition I have, this 3D technology doesn't work on me. I only found this out the other day when I went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 3D. First 3D film I'd ever seem.
I was gutted it didn't work, I was really looking forward to the shift to 3D, now its meaningless to me =\

Seriously, though, 3D isn't all it's hyped up to be.

For a start, it looks weird and unnatural. If you're playing a 2D game and it has awesome graphics it's as though it's happening and you're watching it on TV. If you're playing a 3D game, it's a totally unique experience. It cannot cope with distance, since the screen is always the same distance away. This means that if something comes close, you will try to focus on it, but actually it will go out of focus because it's still on the screen. So you end up with a '3D' world where you can see different stuff with differnet eyes, giving an impression of depth, but on the other hand everything is at the SAME depth. Clever depth of field techniques are required to make it look decent in films. In games, DoF is often a bad idea, but then it will just look weird.

My understanding is the glasses will flicker at 60 hz each for each eye.
If you have a plasma or a 120 HZ tv you only need the glasses.

just to attempt to clear up this tv compatibility mess from what i have read you either need a dlp tv with glasses like at cinema or a 120 hrtz tv with electronic shutter glasses but your tv will need a post for an infared thing that syncs with the glasses all this tech is built in to alot of usa sets that you wouldnt have realised but us in uk will 99% need new tv but rumor in new ops3 mag says sony are trying to get it to work on all hdtvs assuming they will use ps3 to do all the display processing either way cant wait for 3d gaming just saw toystory 1 in 3d brilliant

It was well done yes but brilliant no. ill tell you why , so far ive seen 2 films in 3d ,final destination 3d and toystory 3d . while ts looked good the 3d effect seemed to be more depth of field looking in wards with nothing much jumping out while the final destination had both. i really dont know how this is all goin to apply in gaming but i know i cant wait to find out.

I was recently on a business trip to munich and while i was in one of the shopping centres there i saw some screens displaying various adverts in 3d without having to wear any kind of glasses. The screens were all 50" philips displays and didnt look much different than my plasma at home but the 3d effect was amazing.

Seriously this wasnt just a really good HDTV, stuff was actually flying off the screen and the effect was far better than what you get with the stereoscopic glasses. I stood watching these 3d adverts for ages probably looking like a proper idiot in the process.

Anyway i was just amazed that there is a glasses free 3d solution that seems to have slipped completely under the radar.

NVIDIA has had this 3D Technology out for a while. For gamers with money, I must say that NVIDIA 3D Vision is awesome. As GPUs and TVs that support this technology become more mainstream, 3D will be the way of the gaming future.
