Concept art from cancelled Aliens RPG

PS University writes "Aliens has grown to become a pretty popular franchise considering none of its next generation titles have hit retail shelves and there has been a handful of titles apparently in development. From Aliens: Colonial Marines to an Aliens RPG from Gearbox, Aliens seems to be trying to make a name for itself within every genre. As of yesterday, it's rumored that Aliens: Crucible, a roleplaying game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has been cancelled.

Crucible, which was in development by Obsidian Entertainment, has had plenty of concept art leaked to the public. While Obisidian is mostly known for its work on Neverwinter Nights 2 and Knight of the Old Republic 2, it goes without saying that this title may have followed the same path as the former. "

The concept art for the aliens looks pretty cool.

hakis865743d ago

I hate that it's cancelled :'( *cries*
Maybe it's just put on hold! :D

Anyway, looking forward to AVP next year - been waiting since 2002.. !

If HR Giger were dead that gorilla alien would make him spin in his grave.

I was going to comment as such, but you got there first.

dalibor5744d ago

Hopefully it is just a rumor indeed, this game could be pretty cool. Imagine online play, a squad of people just blasting through aliens. Then have parts that split your squad up to make it a bit more creepy. It could be fun if done right.

zornik5744d ago

This is one of the games i want to play this generation and it's cancelled. One of the biggest movie franchises made by one of the best RPG builders.....it's a shame.

I agree. I love the Aliens franchise and if the game ended up looking anything like the concept art, it could have been pretty stellar.

Survios, 20th Century Games collaborate on new Aliens game

From GamesBeat: "Game developer and publisher Survios is collaborating with 20th Century Games to bring a new Aliens story to life. Set in the Aliens universe, the new game is a single-player, action-horror adventure for PC, consoles and VR. More details about the game are forthcoming at the Alien: Expanding a Dark and Frightening Universe panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Though Aliens is a big name, this is far from the first time Survios has worked on big entertainment properties. Outside of their original titles, the studio has created games for Creed, The Walking Dead and Westworld."

Alien Isolation 2, I can only dream what that would look like on current generation graphics, if there ever was a GoFundMe page ever needed for a sequel that would be a game I would throw money at to support.

Make Isolation VR for PS5, please. I’ll buy your new game, too, promise!

ApocalypseShadow1076d ago (Edited 1076d ago )

VR baby. That's where it will be the most immersive experience. Get it done Survios. Take your time. There's a modded game you got to match or exceed.

Holding any of the rifles or the smart guns in VR and wielding them would be so awesome.

ApocalypseShadow1076d ago (Edited 1076d ago )

Disagreeing with us isn't going to stop the game from being in VR disagreer. It's happening and in the article itself. And, VR *WILL* be more immersive. Survios is a VR developer.

I commend you on plowing through the one name titles Sabec puts out. I hope they are at least easy platinums ;p

We’ve truly reached “next-gen”.

Eonjay1482d ago

Still don't believe that a 1 or 2 is a valid score if the game is functionally operational.

Sean_FingerGuns1482d ago

We have a review policy that shows what each score means. 1 is "Terrible – The lowest score that a functional game can get. If a game is awarded a 1/10 it may have functional issues (but is still somewhat playable) or have incredible design/execution flaws (or both)."

I think if you read the review, you'll agree that the points align with a 1/10.

Good point. Superman 64 was a functional game, but very much earns a 1 out of 10.

traumadisaster1481d ago

When I see an author in the comments it strikes me as a little weird, you had your chance to speak in the article, say what you want there. However, if you do want to add a bit of clarification like properly done here I’d suggest not saying your from the site just paste the facts like the scoring system and say looks like it was scored correctly. Then we scroll through seeing a great rebuttal and we can judge the facts without wondering if there is a hypersensitive stalking every negative comment due to a vested interest.

Sean_FingerGuns1481d ago

@traumadisaster - I take your point. I'm not keen on seeing article authors jump into N4G comments to defend their writing either. In this instance, I felt like I needed too.

Sean_FingerGuns1481d ago

@knightedHollow - a 1/10 is for games that have profound functionality/design issues but can be completed. We reserve 0/10 for games that have game breaking bugs so that we can't complete it.

The content is solid and helpful for whatever its worth.

DivineHand1251482d ago

Visually the game looks dated and one if the things I cannot get over is the fact that aliens are coming in on advanced vehicles such as flying saucers yet they are running at you like mindless brutes with no weapons.

toxic-inferno1482d ago

Maybe their culture haven't developed weapons due to not previously having a need for them? Or perhaps in their society, weapons are considered dishonourable, and all fighting must be conducted with brute force. Maybe attacking using weapons would be so offensive that to do so would result in social disgrace upon the entire extended family, so they have never developed such weapons.

Or maybe the developer just didn't think that one through...

traumadisaster1481d ago

I like your imagination. But the dev part probably went like this...we realize this is unrealistic but the dev cost would be too much to implement properly for the budget we have and we are trying to squeeze a buck out of this scam. Also we can explain to future producers that we put out part of what we wanted and the ai portion could be added if you green light us. Knowing full well there is no ai enemy code as it will need the money first and if it’s approved they will be behind from the beginning trying to learn good enemy ai and that will pull resources from another area like gfx or maps and then they can sell there idea to a 3rd producer on why it was lacking and start the cycle again.
