Macworld Review: BurgerTime Deluxe for Mac

You can play either as Peter or Sally Pepper, apprentice chefs who must help their uncle thwart the dastardly plans of Vinnie Vinegar. To do so, you need to stack burgers by assembling them from a giant scaffolding while you're being chased by food monsters like Mr. Hotdog, Mr. Egg, and other bad guys who will kill you if they touch you. I've never been so afraid of ham and pickles in my life!

To assemble the burgers onto the plates below, you must walk across each of the pieces to work them loose and make them fall. There's a fair amount of strategy that goes into this. Burger pieces may be separated by three levels or more (if you have cheese, lettuce, and tomato), and if one piece hits another, that piece will fall down as well. What's more, the bad guys chasing you will get zapped if a piece falls on them, or if they're traversing a piece when you stomp it loose. You get extra points, and they go away-at least until they respawn.

Wiiloveit.com: BurgerTime Deluxe - 3DS VC Review

"If you're like me and have heard about BurgerTime but never actually felt motivated enough to try it, BurgerTime Deluxe may be just the push you're looking for. With all of the food frenzy action being presented in an appealing portable package, the simple fun offered by this title is something arcade gamers and just general fans of the Game Boy should consider signing up for. And certainly with all this edible merchandise, you can forgive me for being tempted to say that anyone who loves food will already have an immediate attraction to the game." -- Wiiloveit.com

Pocker Gamer - BurgerTime Deluxe Review

Pocker Gamer - With a next-gen game from the classic BurgerTime franchise recently out for Xbox 360, the latest Virtual Console release for 3DS may well whet your appetite in anticipation.

BurgerTime Deluxe, originally released for Game Boy, features all the same burger-dropping, ingredient-dodging action from the very first release, with that familiar monochrome glaze over the top.

As with many of these old arcade titles, the game has lost a lot of its charm now. But for the hardcore among us, seeing it through to the end will take a good few bus journeys.

IGN - BurgerTime Deluxe Review

IGN - BurgerTime was one of the true arcade classics of the early '80s. It was a goofy maze game that cast you in the role of Chef Peter Pepper, a hamburger cook by trade, and tasked you with sending him walking around a set of platforms and ladders to trample gigantic versions of burger ingredients. If you stomped across the huge buns, meat patties and cheese slices before the enemies got you, you won the round and moved on to the next stage to do it all over again.
