Ars: "We've finally had a chance to get to know the PSP Go in detail, and here are our thoughts: this isn't aimed at a clear market, it's more expensive in every way, and it takes away the choice of gamers. When your older, cheaper hardware is better and more able than your new offering, you need to fire some designers.
The new, UMD-less PSP Go is an absolute dream for Sony. Since it lacks a way to play games purchased at retail, Sony gets to set the prices for every piece of content bought on the system. Who cares if the store down the street has a game for $10 cheaper? You can only get your games from one place; competition with discounting and used games is gone. Sony will now be selling you every game that goes into the Go's 16GB of storage, and without the ability to buy or sell used games, Sony now owns every single piece of the market with this system. And without an easy way to switch the battery for hacking purposes, piracy won't be as easy."
TNS: Even big-name game studios like Bungie and Konami have all tiptoed, or tripped, into art plagiarism territory. Let's take a look at 8 of them
Check out the new additions of Final Fantasy IX merch launched for the 25th anniversary, featuring a charming Vivi mug and plush bag.
This will be the first time the original 1993 arcade Ridge Racer has appeared on home consoles.
I hear rumors that Evercade may also be getting a Namco Arcade cart with RR and Tekken on it. That would be sweet as their previous Namco Console carts have also recently been updated to work on the VS. Previously, they only had the license to the handheld. so the OG Evercade and the EXP and even the Alpha were supported, but not the VS.
last i checked they still selling the old psp's, the fact that i can use my DS3 has sold me to get a GO eventually, nobody is forcing you to pick the Go over the other one.. stop with the sony hate already
because if you get a 16gb player from them it's going to cost you about the same and it's not going to play PSP games
Well the PSP Go is what you called a "premium" product. So, it is for those people who have extra cash to spend on.
Personally, I am happy with my old PSP-1000.
I have a psp 3000, and I like the fact they have released this as another alternative in the psp family - I may upgrade one day
Its almost like all the journos think this is replacing the whole psps line-up, its not, its a premium version if you like that kind of thing
I don't understand why Sony puts themselves in these situations. Even if they have a plan, they just come off as bumbling and directionless.
The problem with the PSP Go is that if it does just okay, it's great for PSP 3000 owners. If it does very well, it's a threat to the future of UMD.
When I first saw the Go I was so excited I nearly pre-ordered it, but on further examination (I even made a pro/con list) the 3000 emerged as the victor based on price, screen size, cost of games, etc. The Go wins in one area: size. Oh yeah, and you can save the state of your game.
