Xbox 360 Is the Gamers' Choice

"Xbox 360 is the gamers' choice. In the last few months, a lot of things have happened in the gaming world. The PlayStation 3 got a slim model and a price drop and the Xbox 360 also reconfigured their pricing structure to match that of the PS3. You can now get a 120gb Elite 360 or a 120gb Slim PS3 for $299. There are a ton of games coming out and the sales for both consoles spiked since the price drops were put into effect. Now Nintendo dropped the price of the Wii, in the United States, to $199 to keep up with the price drops that have been happening recently. Nintendo has dominated this generation with total sales and game sales, but many gamers consider the true race is between the PS3 and the 360. The 360 has held a firm lead of about 7 million consoles over the PS3, due in part to the one year head start and arguably a stronger lineup of games and online services. Although the PS3 has made some strides, it has yet to take away any shine from the 360. Each console has its benefits yet both are different in regards to their functions and abilities. Sony has worked hard to improve their online network and its features, but Microsoft has continued to stay a few steps ahead in that area."

I approved the article, because I believe in freedom of opinion.

But at the start of this gen, I'd probably agree that Xbox 360 was the hardcore gamers choice. But now, if you don't own a PS3, you are not a hardcore gamer. There are just too many exclusive games that you just cannot afford to miss, and if you don't care about that, you are a fanboy.

PS3 is affordable now too, so no one has the excuse of the expense anymore.

At the end of 2006, the 360's lead was 8.72 million based on official numbers. Since the PS3 launched worldwide in March of 2007, that lead had knocked down to 7.56 (as of the mid way point of 2009, not taking into account slim sales which haven't been officially reported yet).

Clearly the PS3 is the gamers console of choice (aside from the Wii) because it's been selling faster then the 360 since it was available worldwide by over a million consoles, despite being almost double the price that whole time.

Also of interest, if you line up the launch dates for each console, the PS3 has sold 3.6 million more consoles in it's first 2 1/2 years then the 360 did in it's first 2 1/2 years on market.

If there is a consumer preference being displayed here between the 360 and the PS3, it's obvious gamers have spoken.

And what was those 'gamers' playing this year so far?!

Halo wars?
Ninja Blade?
Velvet Assassin?
Race Pro?

You got what I mean!
It's not 2007 anymore ffs

Uhh, hate to break it to you, but there's enough big exclusives on BOTH consoles that if you don't own both of them, you're not a "hardcore" gamer. Or at least, you can't afford to be one.

I'm not a fan of the term "hardcore", but if there were to be such a category I believe it would fall upon the high end PC gamer as they're obviously willing to invest much more money in the pursuit of the "best" gaming performance.

What makes you hardcore? Time spent? If I throw 15 hours a day into the "casual" Wii, does that make me hardcore, or if I put 30 minutes a day on my 360 am I casual?

Either way, if you play games, your a gamer as far as I'm concerned. Doesnt matter what platform, be that a DS or a £2000 rig. Or from FPS to wii sports. Play what you want, on what you want. Its all just computer games.

I spent 1,500 dollars on computer parts and I love how every game looks :)
