Really Nvidia? Really? Nvidia claims gamers are somehow being punished because of AMD's aggresive 5870 and DirectX 11 launch. Somehow, we doubt they would be making the same claim if they were first to silicon with DX11 parts...
Nvidia, what the hell are you doing?
They're crying. When they have the upper hand, they sure do rub it in AMDs face. We love the back and forth. In the end, it's great for consumers. I can't wait to see Intel get into the fray with Larrabee
Nvidia said unified shader architecture had no value when AMD released it first, intimating it was only relevant whrn they released their interpretation. I just do not understand their CEO sometimes. Edit: Like the writer said, I would be happy to bend over. At least in Jan, anyway. Hello Sailor!
Nvidia never said that, it's just a lie by a journalist nothing more.
"Aren't they punishing PC gamers by pushing out the schedule of PC titles such as Dirt 2 in order to support DX11? Proprietary standards punish gamers, not industry standards like DirectX11. Why is NVIDIA punishing gamers by putting in proprietary and closed standards like PhysX in games?" This by AMD made me lol. And it's true. If Nvidia supported 10.1 we would have seen more 10.1 games. I don't think they're gonna be able to ignore this one however. So according to Nvidia. Physx (which is proprietary) for console to pc ports that don't challenge today's hardware is good yet Directx 11 that's gonna be able to push today's pc to its limits is bad? Nvidia seems to have traded their goose that lays golden eggs for physx and now it's biting them in the A$$. @ The Real Killer If Nvidia doesn't sue this guy in the next day or two, then you know he was tellin the truth.
when threatened, dont improve the product...just throw dirt at the competition.
All companies are hypocritical, it's *their job* to downplay the competition and put themselves in a favorable light, you can't blame them.
@PROFIT: All companies do what Nvidia has done. You have to do it to please investors. AMD would be doing the same thing if they were in this situation and have done it before. And Microsoft came through in the end with Windows 7. They just throw dirt to give themselves enough time to improve.
Looks like somebodies crying because they're getting out-gamed :(. There there Nvidia, maybe you'll get to rip off some people in the future.
BS statement from them. If it was NVIDIA that released the next gen GPU you can bet yer but it would retail for around 700 instead of 380. NVIDIA gouges ppl like hell with their products.
Exactly... you can get a ATI Radeon HD 4890 1 GB GDDR5 memory for $250 or so, compared to the NVIDIA GTX 295 for like... $700.
99.9% of the time, the 10% increase that you get from nvidias flagship card does not justify the pricetag when compared to ati. dont get me wrong, ive been an nvidia fanboy all my life....i just call em how i see em
There's a little green company in Santa Clara, CA that has a case of the "HELP 40NM IS HARD AND OUR FLAGSHIP CARD IS 5 MONTHS LATE" sniffles.
Wow, they shouldn't be talking like this. AMD is perfectly fine. Nvidia needs to shutty.
nVidia should know about punishing gamers...ask anybody who held onto a geforce fx if they got to benefit from the programmable shader technology in the games that followed. AMD has done pretty solid and I'm only hoping that nVidia realizes the punishment it is to plunk $600 on a highend GPU...
What does everyone think of a company that approaches a journalist to offer a list of preferred bullet points for a competitors product? Would you argue against the ethical merits of that? What if TweakTown would have just rolled over and gave them what they wanted for fear of loosing NVIDIA review samples, advertising revenue, whatever? NVIDIA should be interfacing with the press on the merits of their own product, not the competition. They should compete by making better product, not by coaxing journalists to frame the articles on the competitors product in a way that they find favorable. Of course Mr. Baxtor was not going to just say, DX11 is pointless because most games are just DX9 ports, because he would have lost all credibility for it in the enthusiast community. That is why this is so ridiculous. Well played Mr. Baxtor, well played.
That's quite a spin from Nvidia. And I like how AMD-ATI answered back. :)
i must agree. ATI handled the whining like professionals
The all seeing eye logo and all it variations is so ancient Egypt, please use some originality corporate America.
I say you are punishing gamers, Nvidia, with your BSOD errors and disappointing performance. You're just pissed because you get to watch the ass-end of ATI cards again. You get the publicity which gives you a good start each generation, plastering your logo all over everything and now exploiting "PhysX", but that doesn't fool true enthusiasts. I hope you enjoyed your time in the spotlight. It never lasts long, does it? Boo hoo... the logo says it all! That's classic.
Heh. Thanks. I was proud of the logo :p
Dirt 2's long delay was pretty stupid. All of these chip companies should have really been pushing all of these companies into DX10 so DX11 transitions wouldn't be hard in the first place.
i'd say that that statement was ignorant, but nvidia knows this, anyone who's interested in gpu tech already knows that they're spinning crap ( not like console fanboys read gpu news), so i don't know who this statement was supposed to impress, even i as an nvidia fan think that they're jackasses. let your gpu's do the talking nvidia, if your gpus thrash the 5800 series, then ill take any crap you have to shout from your soapbox and i'll nod my head along
You're mostly right everything nvidia related but probably you haven't played Batman Arkham Asylum in ..3D.. with Physx enabled. Truth be told, Nvidia is pushing technologies here not AMD.
what are you talking about batman for, i have a gtx 280 and play a ton of games with way better physx than batman. nvidia themselves have said that physx could easily be ported for ati cards that don't have cuda, they aren't liscencing it because they want to have the upper hand, and doing this means that alot of game developers aren't bothering with physx specific effect because half of their customers ( ati card owners) would not be able to take advantage of it, they are limiting the gpu market for their own ends, without the competition from ati nvidia would just do infrequent die shrinks and rebranding of the same cards forever, and they'd still cost the same they did on day 1 i have an nvidia gpu and an intel processor, but i can't wait for the day that ati takes the performance crown (back) and ati overtakes intel, although i'm doubtful that amd ever will with cpus, they can still make their cards more desirable because of the performance/price ratio, and i'm all for buying a gpu processor for a much cheaper price but with only a small performance drop. @below sacred 2, mirrors edge, crysis, far cry 2... if your trying to say that crysis and farcry 2 don't benefit from the physx aspect of nvidia cards, then you are wrong if by upper hand you mean cuda then yes, if by upper hand you mean value then no, nvidia charges a rediculous price for their cards and ati proves amazing competition in performance for cheaper
like? And it's not just hardware pshysx man. Have you tried playing in 3d? no? well you should. We share the same wish ATI related but i can't ignore the fact tha nvidia still has the upper hand. Poor examples man. poor examples. Crysis and Farcry 2>Software physx. Sacred 2 and Mirror's Edge Featuring Physx BY NVIDIA. See my point now? OH and in 3d as well something most in here seem to forget. No i'm not. http://www.nzone.com/object... Show them to me. They're using havok instead i think. "if by upper hand you mean value then no, nvidia charges a rediculous price for their cards and ati proves amazing competition in performance for cheaper" I agree with you there. The thing is i'm a tech junkie with money to spare so...
PhysX is one of the worst pieces of technology ever. It was a pointless maths co-processor who's entire business plan was to sell out, and nVidia took the bait. And now, instead of open physics platforms, they're tied into graphics cards. Excellent, well done. ---- You can't ignore that nVidia have the upper hand? Are you just talking about market share? Have you seen the HD 5000 reviews? nVidia's only response are these ridiculous questions. When ATI move their production to Globalfoundries they will continue to pull ahead.
Physx is FREE man. If you don't like it stay away..your loss not mine. BTW have you tried 3D gaming yet?
We already have the 5870 cards in hand and given to media for reviews and testing..
Nvidia. When are you going to make us finally play Crysis in it's most OPTIMAL settings with only 1 graphic card?
It's amazing that an almost three year old game is still pushing the very limits of graphics hardware in Q4 2009.
Not to mention that three year old game continues to grow stronger with additional technologies such as ambient occlusion. Those Crytek folk never sleep.
From the most recent update on Tweaktown regarding the news bit: "UPDATE - NVIDIA's PR company for Asia Pacific in Singapore, CIZA Concept, has contacted us and claimed that the source of the questions was from them as "our observations, as industry watchers" and not NVIDIA. We always get these types of questions and they seem to read like they are from NVIDIA, so we are unsure. We were asked to state this in this news post, which has been done here. " Oh is that right? I smell something dirty brewing. Something doesn't sit right with me in all of this. It would be asinine for nvidia to do something like this in the first place, this whole situation could be a giant mixup that Tweaktown capitalized on. I dunno, I'm just not feeling it with this recent update.
NVIDIA responds; essentially "we don't know where those questions came from. It wasn't us!" http://n4g.com/NewsPending-...
