Italian gaming website Nextgame posted its review of Cryptic's new superhero MMORPG, Champions Online: "After two weeks with the new MMORPG Cryptic Studios we see clearly how each element of the title to be traceable to a single objective: the achievement of immediate entertainment, through the extravagant use of powers in a very "arcade". This, unfortunately, at the expense of depth of play, so that Champions Online can be recommended only when those who had grown tired of City of Heroes, the superhero lovers visceral or alternatively for those who wish to accompany lighter than a MMORPG main (often, World of Warcraft). All others are advised to wait, because City of Heroes is now much more complete than Champions Online which, moreover, has no assets that could attract migration of users from other titles."
Cryptic Studios appears to be the latest Embracer-owned company to be impacted by layoffs.
Champions Online is based on the popular pen-and-paper Champions RPG, giving players the power of total customization of their hero experience while they explore a vast universe of richly detailed 3D environments.
