1UP writes: "Developer Q-Games has built a nice reputation for its PixelJunk games by taking a simple game mechanic and expanding on it with a charmingly creative touch. In this case that mechanic is shooting -- or more specifically, the recently popularized twin-stick shooter. The PixelJunk twist on it puts you spelunking through a variety of caverns rescuing stranded miners from hazards such as lava and flood waters. The different potential states of matter and temperature come into play with the environmental puzzles; for instance water can be used to solidify lava which then produces steam. Or at the other end of the spectrum, lava can melt ice into a torrent of water. Temperature also serves as your life gauge in the game, with your ship exploding when it overheats. Missiles and other projectiles from the enemies below ground build up your heat, but you must also be very wary of lava, and constructively use ice and water where available to cool off."

He writes:
"The ultimate edition received a major overhaul, which includes graphics. The overall artist effort truly shines on the PC. The water in each level looks like it is actually flowing, with perfectly precise physics, and subtle depth."

If you know anything about Q-Games, you know that we made a name for ourselves during the PlayStation 3 era with our acclaimed PixelJunk series. Debuting way back in 2007, we were one of the first indies to cut our teeth on the newly released console. Our idea for the series was simple: rework old school gaming concepts in beautiful high-definition visuals, while keeping the easy to learn, difficult to master gameplay that made us fall in love with games in the first place.
