Select/Start Games Review: Demon's Souls

Select/Start Games Writes: "Like most RPGs of it's type, Demon's Souls is a rather difficult game to review. The game is linear, but open ended. There are 10 classes to choose from, each with varying attributes that obliquely shape the way your character evolves. The game is massive, with tons of stats, upgrades, and loot to gather. I don't know if it's possible to cover everything the game offers (much like Final Fantasy Dissidia), but I think, for me, at least, the best way I can review this game for you all is to simply tell you what you can do, and what I've done specifically for my own journey."

The game looks brilliant, can't wait to check it out.

the massive amount or reviews this game is getting.

Hope it sells like rabbits; so From Software makes a sequel.

Best RPG of 2009?

Lavalamp5718d ago

I'm still on the fence with this game but the more positive feedback I hear about it the stronger this itching feeling to play it gets.

for some reason, wordpress refused to apply the paragraphs i had when i copied the review over into the program to post it.

forgive the uber-long paragraphs! i've been trying to fix it all day to no avail!

oh yeah, and thanks for reading the review! Demon's Souls is truly an awesome game. i was pleasantly surprised by the effort from From Software.

Demon's Souls isn't Soulslike. It's the original Souls game. WTF? And Elden Ring?

Another Crab's Treasure simply is not.

All the journos claiming things are "Soulslike" simply don't know what that word means.

GeeEssEff90d ago

The term “Soulslike” has become ridiculously diluted. I have seen it used for games just because they are difficult.

Cacabunga90d ago

Reminds me of Doom like back in the days for every FPS game

blackblades90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Yeah, souls, souls lite, souls like same goes for rogue.

anast89d ago

It's either AI or the writer doesn't know the subject matter.

robtion90d ago

I've played all of these bar the Crab one so not a very accurate title.

Goodguy0190d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Nioh 1+2 imo are the best souls clone. Love the melee combat and ki system, really hoping team ninja doesn't abandon the IP and continue with a new title, hell just give us your take on the western fantasy setting for a new nioh game.

robtion89d ago

Yes Nioh 2 in particular is great. Also Wo Long (which is basically Nioh 3).

qalpha89d ago

Should have included 'Lies of P'. Seriously fun game.

Nacho_Z89d ago

That's what I was going to say, great game. Best non From Soulslike I've played.

I see absolutely no difference with base performance mode..

MrWood184d ago

Well yeah it tells you the difference— 1440p vs 4k for 60fps. You have to watch the video in 4k to see the difference.

dantesparda185d ago (Edited 185d ago )

Wukong actually performs worst in performance mode, wtf!

And wheres the damn update for this game. They're still more work to be done.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH185d ago

I saw Zero noticeable difference when I played it on Pro. The only game I’ve seen significant difference in is FF7RB but now I get these stutters after the Pro update. I can safely say that if you don’t have a PS5 then getting the Pro is a no brainer but upgrading from PS5 to Pro is not a wise move as of now. Wait for better new games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH184d ago

So you’re telling me that I DONT have a PS5 Pro and you’re telling me that I DONT have Demon’s Souls and you’re telling me that I DID in fact see a different in a game that according to you I don’t have? Im assuming you’re one of the lucky few who owns a Pro saw a major Difference in Demon’s Souls right?

This list has nine games....

And if these are the "hardest", that's a bit alarming because I'm pretty average and I've managed to 100% more than a third of this list (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Hard Corps Uprising, and Catherine).
