Tim from Project Gamers writes: Not many people get to experience the thrill of a knockout punch: the solid junction of fist and face, a devastating blast, knocking your opponent down for good. While most of us won't ever deliver a knockout, a knockout is exactly what you get out of EA's Fight Night 4. The thrill of the main event is fully captured in the fourth iteration of this boxing sports game. Whether you are an avid fan of boxing, just a general fan of sports, or simple a fan of great games, Fight Night 4 is a must play for all gamers, for this game delivers punch after punch of great fun. While there isn't a ton of variety in the game, what is there is enough to satisfy just about anybody.
To be honest, I myself was skeptical at how good this game could be. I was curious as to how long I would be entertained by simply pummeling my opponent over and over. What I soon found out that even a simple Fight Now fight is crazy fun, and it starts with the amazing animations. The graphics are top notch. Everything is animated on the boxer's bodies: their muscles flex as they punch, their skin sweats, and the body motions look authentic. You shed beads of sweat when you swing, land a big punch and spit and blood will fly from your opponent, swings look and feel real. Every thing down to the knockdown looks all too real, and it is the knockdown where this game shines.
Fight Night Round 4 swings its final punch, as online servers will be taken down next year according to a press release from EA.
Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?
Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.
cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird
Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.
DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s members ‘Andreaa’, “airGaming”, “reznoire” and “John GodGames Emus” have shared some videos showing Fight Night Round 4, Uncharted, MotorStorm, Dante’s Inferno, Sonic 4 and Resistance 2 running on the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3."
Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
Fight Night Champion was an abomination - but man, I'd love to see a new gen Fight Night game.
