Pioneer's new Elite receivers now with HDMI 1.3a

Whether you need it or not, HDMI 1.3a is all the rage these days. Maybe it's because it's the way we're used to doing things, but maybe it's cause EngadgetHD want our audio decoded by the same piece of equipment that amplifies it (but probably because Dolby can license more equipment).

Regardless of where you like your Dolby TrueHD decoded, EngadgetHD love options. Just like the recently announced Onkyo receivers, Pioneer's new lineup of Elite receivers includes decoders for Dolby TrueHD, DTS MA and a slew of other formats. These new receivers offer other features too; like iPod and satellite radio compatibility and HDMI Consumer Electronics Control. The HDMI 1.3 equipped models start with a MSRP of $1000 and will be available in June.

ok never mind.

I am looking to replace my old 5.1 sony amp for a new one.

I was thinking of getting a Yamaha 7.1 receiver, and my limit is 500 dollars. Any other brands you suggest that are good that are 500 dollars or less?

I cant remember the name but they are the inhouse bestbuy brand, I purchased a 6.1 set of speakes, and the receiver and its worked flawlessly ever since, I've never had any thing above stereo, So i cant tell the difference between it and other receiver/speakers, I all together i spent probly bout 200 bux.

Im wanting to say Insignia....and im pretty sure thats what it is.

Strike that insig doesn't have 7.1 systems only up to 6.1 sorry bout that i thought i had seen one at bestbuy, but insignia are good in my opinion and cheap.

Does this means HDMI 1.3a > PS3's HDMI 1.3?

Have HDMI decoding. The 500$ HDMI receivers are only Passthrough. The 1000$ ones like this ELite can Decode HDMI audio Or 1000$ Yamahas also. So be careful as to what to get. And Yes I think Yamaha for 500 bones is one of the best. I had a 400$ pioneer that I bought 3 years ago and I it blew up when I was whatching UFC 70. The next day I bought a 400$ yamaha and wow it sounds wayy better then my older Pioneer. You can also look into a 400$ Denon or 500$ Harmon Kardon. If you want Sound quality get Yamaha, Denon, or Harmon for the 400-500$ catergory. If you want more features then get a pioneer or sony you can get even CHEAPer but gowd awful sound.

currently i have a 5 to 7 yr old 5.1 system sony receiver .

And i was looking at amps. I really don't need hdmi in my amp, and don't really need features aside from sound so i think ill go with Yamaha . Thanks for brining up Denon and Harmon though, that might be a possibility too.
