ever made? lol tht's a pretty definitive list

Silellak3792d ago (Edited 3792d ago )

Yeah, that's a pretty bold statement for an article that does little to back-up their claims.

"It's great because it's great!" is basically what each game's description seems to boil down to. It might be better-titled "Our all-time 10 favorite games", rather than "greatest ones ever made". If you're going to claim something like that, you should go into a bit more detail regarding design decisions, level design, gameplay, and overall fun-factor. Just my two cents.

I always have trouble coming up with my top-10 lists, but I think my personal list would look something like:

10. The World Ends With You
9. Metal Gear Solid
8. Final Fantasy Tactics
7. Baldur's Gate 2
6. Freespace 2
5. Final Fantasy IV
4. TIE Fighter
3. Master of Orion (1 and 2)
2. X-Com
1. Ultima 7

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but that was the best I could come up with in 5 minutes :P

"I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but that was the best I could come up with in 5 minutes :P"

Considering they've used the word "awesome" to justify three separate picks, I'd say you've clearly put more thought into your list.

HL2 and Halo should switch. It's just common sense.

Is that good game? I never played it before. going to play it soon.

Missed it by about 10 years.

Have you ever played Super Metroid? Or, more recently, Shadow Complex?

It's like those only with a dark medieval setting. Explore a big map, find powerups, gain levels, armour, new weapons, magic, etc. It's quite possibly still the best of that type of gameplay.

god of war and MGS4 better make it...

RockmanII73791d ago

5 - Sonic 2
4 - Super Metroid
3 - FF VII
2 - MGS3
1 - LoZ: OoT

There are so many great games out there that it's impossible to make a top ten list that everyone agrees on.

Personally, I don't like putting my greatest gaming experiences in order because, well, they were all great! Each one of them brought something new to the table or did a phenomenal job at what it was supposed to do. And one of them will always be on the bottom of the list, when in reality it's an amazing game. And I'm sure that #1 will cause some kind of controversy and start some kind of war.

I will say, though, that all the games on this list are great. No disagreeance there.

10. God of War II - Mainly because hack n slash games always get overlooked when it comes down to these types of lists. But let's be honest here. God Of War has an incredible storyline, great voice acting, great art design, great game play, great sound track, great graphics, and even great animations.

9. Metroid Prime - Metroid in 3d? I mean, do I really have to say more?

8. Super Mario World - Pretty much a given.

7. Xenogears - It's technically an unfinished game and still rivals the best of the best. Not too mention even as an unfinished game it's about 60 hours long, great combat, great story, great music, great characters, great everything.

6. Super Mario 64 - (Mainly because before this game 3d platforming games were, well let's face it, terrible. Remember Sonic Xtreme? Hell, there are still, even to this day, very few 3d platformers that can even get near this one.)

5. Final Fantasy 6 - IMO FF6 has the best storyline of all the FF games, amazing soundtrack, amazing game play, Kefka is (in my opinion) the best villain of any RPG only to be rivaled by

(SPOILER ALERT: Xenogears attempt at 'I'm my own worst enemy')

Oh and not only are there a lot of playable characters for a Final Fantasy game, with almost all of them they tell the backstory too, as well as actually give them a personality and a point of being.

4. Ocarina of Time - A given.

3. Metal Gear Solid. - A 3d 'stealth' game that proved a game could be as cinematic as a motion picture. With great game play, and one of the best cast of characters in any game.

2. Half Life 2 - A sequel to a game that revolutionized the FPS genre and proved it was possible to completely immerse yourself into the mind of the main character. Not only did HL2 do this, it did it better. With an amazing story, game play, graphics, physics, voice acting, facial animations, and need I really mention the Crowbar?

1. Chrono Trigger - Ahhh. Chrono Trigger. So much to say, yet I doubt anyone will even read this comment. Well for starters Chrono Trigger took what was a fairly straight-forward, simple plot, and turned it into something incredible. The game had an incredible battle system that involved having to use combos between 2 or, in some cases, 3 of your party members. The music beyond anything I've heard in another game. It's catchy, it's plentiful, it's beautiful, it's simply the best. The art design for the game was unlike any other at the time. Magus starts off as an incredible villain, then turns into a team mate (an incredibly useful one at that).

The game had a ton of multiple endings and the story was based around time traveling. Speaking of which, for the most part if you did something in the past, it was represented in the future. There are a ton of side quests (most of which actually affect the game). If you ask me, Chrono Trigger re-revolutionized the RPG genre and brought a new life to it.

Also other games that are notable for doing amazing things, but due to being online only, I can't really give them a 'best game ever' award.

Ultima Online (Pre AoS expansion of course).
Counter Srike.

I'm OK with how the list looks so far. If I could finish this list off, I'd make the top 4 (this list is actually 10-5, not 10-6):

Super Metroid
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Tetris

But really, honestly, it's just too tough to pick the 10 best games of all time. So many other favorites of mine I'd want to put on such a list, couldn't fit them all!

gameseveryday3792d ago

agreed! Thats why i guess the editor has mentioned that listing all games is not possible.

Didn't you write this, Rachid?

slayerggx3792d ago

Agreed, but I would replace Ocarina of Time with A Link to the Past and symphony of the night with, depending on my mood, either SMB 3 or Wolfenstein/Doom.

Dan GamingBolt3792d ago

mgs1-4 should be on the list (pick 1 ) lol
