Insomniac: New Ratchet & Clank Future Is Single-Player

Despite what the back of the box for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time might have said, Insomniac Games newest PlayStation 3 exclusive will not feature a multiplayer component.

As cautioned earlier, that PS3 box art for the new Ratchet & Clank was based on a standard template and "not final," according to Insomniac. So don't expect to see a well hidden surprise multiplayer component in the final game, nor any of the other features listed in error.

"As we've said before, [Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time] is a single-player game, and has been planned as such from the very beginning," reads a statement. "We're totally focused on wrapping up the Ratchet & Clank Future story arc that we started in Tools of Destruction, and continued with Quest for Booty."

this well not be received well, as this is the multiplayer online generation

Cwalat5771d ago

I don't mind Singleplayer games at all, but isn't the boxart misleading if that's the case, or perhaps they have a PSN logo for DLC?

Marceles5771d ago

At least it'll be less variety...can't hurt the score that much

mistajeff5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

Or leaderboards. I'm guessing the thing on the back of the boxart that says "multiplayer, leaderboards, in-game invite" etc etc is just referring to the PSN itself, not the game. Since they have a PSN logo on there there's probably SOME type of online feature, but not necessarily multiplayer. There was also a PSN logo in the E3 trailer, which Uncharted 2's trailer also had but Heavy Rain's didn't, so there's got to be SOME type of PSN functionality, as minimal as it may be. Though my fingers are crossed for co-op.

R&C was never about MP, Its SP is what all the fans fell in love with

Panthers5771d ago

Doesnt bother me. I was a little upset at Uncharted 2 having multiplayer. I didnt want them to skimp out on the single player. But I trust Naughty Dog

Bnet3435771d ago

I don't feel comfortable paying $60 for SP only games unless it's an RPG. Going to pick this up budget priced.

BulletToothtony5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

hahahhaha man i forgot about that... gamespot gave R&C what was it.. a 6 or something..

They said it had "too much variety" lol man.. the good old days when websites were going nuts to trash the ps3 for any reason..

Oh wait.. they still do.. they just try to make it less obvious..

badz1495771d ago

for me, R&C is always SP exclusive games! there are so many things to do to keep playing it plus the trophies hunting, not having a MP is totally not a bad thing! I can't say this for every other game but R&C SHOULD stay SP! plus I hate hunting trophies online because I don't have friends locally that have a PS3 except 1 guy but he plays different types of games than mine! PS3 is still a premium item over here in Malaysia and I also can't wait for the slim to arrive!

gaffyh5771d ago

Doesn't really matter to me, as long as the single-player is great. And it does also be decently long ~12 hours, and then I always play through the game twice. So I'm definitely getting it when it comes out, it is easily the best platformer this gen.

aww i was looking forward to some co-op at least
oh well, i know this game will have tons of replay value
i ended up playing tod at least 5 times cause it was so much fun!

ZorinInc5771d ago

Multiplayer is overrated. You play most games online once, find out you don't like it and never experience it again.

LordMarius5771d ago

Yeah then you are not getting my $60

Daver5771d ago

To each their own... i dont like multiplayer much, i prefer a good single player experience

mistajeff5771d ago

I say the same thing about multiplayer-only games.

Jmlopezbr5771d ago

Then you are missing out on a great game.

I hate when people don't buy a game just because it doesn't have multiplayer. I understand if it is money problems, but other than that is just sad.

Arnon5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

You can hate all you want, but the first Ratchet & Clank Future was short as hell and had absolutely no replay value except if you didn't collect all of the secret items, which you could have found just by playing the game better.

The point I'm trying to convey, is that we KNOW R&C is a great game. The problem is, is that there's games that offer a lot more for the same price. It just doesn't give us the incentive to shell out $60 for a game that we know we probably wont go back to unless to play it with our kids.

That being said, I will probably still pick this game up.

Didn't Naughty Dog say something similar about Uncharted 2 before they dropped that multiplayer trailer? I've learned that with Sony and Sony's 2nd parties that a flat-out denial of something definitely doesn't rule it out. I hope at the very least they have online and split-screen co-op.

EDIT: also look carefully at the quote, they don't deny a multiplayer component, and they don't say single player ONLY. They just say it's a "single player game," which you could also say about Call of Duty 4 or any game that has both multi and single. Cmoooooon co-op!

ZorinInc5771d ago

Uncharted devs were grinning like idiots when asked about multiplayer by Geoff Keighly long before they announced ever it. Worst kept secret.

mistajeff5771d ago

True, though I'd put PSP go and PS3 slim above that on the worst-kept secret list lol
