Alienware M17X Review - PC World

Turns out you can put a price on laptop power. To be precise, Alienware's M17x costs $4799 (as of 08/29). Scary part: That's a fairly "reasonable" price among the desktop replacement notebook set. Do you--or even most hardcore gamers--need this kind of juice?

Like the M17, this latest Alienware laptop tries loading up on features while still achieving a fairly reasonable entry price for a base model ($1799 in the case of the M17x). The base-level 17-inch machine will earn a warm reception from gamers but, of course, what descended upon my desktop was anything but entry-level. It's got every conceivable bell and whistle, from a Blu-ray drive to the backlit illuminated keyboard.

If almost $4.8K is a reasonable price, I'd hate to see what an expensive one would cost.

Pandamobile5745d ago

This is a high-end gaming PC disguised as a laptop. It's going to be expensive.

I have bough alienware laptops and they r totally worth the money. Never have had probs with any of them while I have had probs with my dell laptops and compaq one. If i had the money right now I would buy that laptop. Not 5G's offcourse but 2,500 or less would be fine.

STONEY45745d ago

Then unless you take that laptop to other places often, just get a desktop. You can build one better than this laptop for under $2500.

Major_Tom5745d ago

For 5K you could make a computer that runs crysis at 200 FPS if not more.

STONEY45745d ago

The technology isn't avaliable for that yet, but for maybe 3-4k you can probably run it at around 90-120 with Tri-SLI 285s.

You can build a Laptop???? Wow

STONEY45745d ago (Edited 5745d ago )

He means you can build a desktop probably 4 times more powerful than this, get a nice big 1920x1200 monitor, a nice surround sound system, and still end up half the price or less. Laptops were never really meant for gaming, I'm gonna guess this thing heats up pretty good.

Mr Face Creamer5745d ago

My problem is, I need a gaming laptop, a really good one, I have an amazing desktop but I also need a laptop that'll run Crysis maxed out on at least 30FPS, yes I'm a bit needy, but if I'm going to go all out and rape my wallet I might as well do it well.

If your looking for a good gaming laptop, then ASUS is your answer, check the ASUS W90VP which has a 4870X2 2GB card in a laptop under 2500$... And if your looking for something lower then go for an ASUS Republic of Gamers G series laptop.

Bethesda is better than ever under Xbox.

Here´s hoping they will transition from Creation Engine to UE5 or UE6 for TES VI and Fallout 5 the same way they did with Oblivion Remastered

andy851h ago

Better than ever? They've released an average game in Starfield and an absolute disaster in Redfall. Now don't get me wrong I love Oblivion but "under Xbox"? they've prettied up a game the actual talent created 20 years old and have since left. Stellar new experiences remain to be seen for that better than ever tag.

Also the Skyblivion team invited to Bethesda Studios, now that is a dev I can respect.

Unlike some other studios who are pieces of shit along with Nintendo.
