lol. Hey we got 12 million people to pay $15 per month for wow, let's make our next MMO free! Give me a break.
I hope it wont be true .. with the exception of the excellent Guild wars and a few obscure (and useless games) , f2p ends up costing more than subscriptions .
Most current f2p either try forcing your hands with paid items that enhance your game , with the game being painful or slow otherwise ... or gives you basic looking equipement while they gorgeous one are paid .
Of course it's cheap but accumulated and in the end , a small fraction of fanatics will spend a lot (with extreme case of idiocy going at hundreds of dollar some months) , a sizeable amount paying pretty much a bit more than subscriptions , and of course people not buying anything , but mostly those that wont be staying in the game .
Look guys, the cash shop model might work for some games, but literally World of Warcraft is the most successful game model ever in the history of video games. You simply do not abandon something like that for the sake of trying something new.
Maybe something guild wars esque but thats it and i still doubt it
