Borderlands' new style was a mutiny

TVGB: "Borderlands was on quite a few peoples radar before the drastic change in its visual style came about, but once those changes were unveiled it seemed the game's visibility all but exploded and suddenly everyone was talking about it. And who's to 'blame' for the rise in popularity? Mutinous artists with nothing else to do."

I think its the complete opposite. I was heavily down with this game UNTIL they changed the art style. It could have been a realistic/serious Road Warrior style post apocalyptic FPS but they ruined it. And for what?
Now it looks like some childish, generic cel shaded FPS with ridiculous looking characters. If I wanted my shooters to look like children's games I would've bought a Wii.

This is the first time I've really been disappointed with Gearbox.

I agree, I was super pumped for this, UNTIL they changed, now I couldnt care less. It looks terrible, like a watered down kids game. I wouldnt buy this on a dare, and I love Gear Box, Brother's in Arms- Hell's Highway is one of my favorite games.

I would have to disagree. Before the change I had no interest in the game. The graphics looked bland, uninspiring, routine and honestly not that good. Then when they switched to the cell shaded look I felt that it breathed some life into the game and gave it some personality. I'm pumped for the game now. I feel that it has more of a comic book feel to it rather than a childish watered down kids game.

was definately on my radar. Then the change came and now.

what's Borderlands =\

iceman28855778d ago

Yeah, you guys are right...it was on my radar as the next generic 1st person shooter that everyone complains about because it's exactly the same as the last generic 1st person shooter...

...Oh wait...just kidding, now this FPS has something unique to it and I like it. you guys can do all the ney saying you want, but I believe you are 110% in the wrong this time. I've seen way too many FPS that are just like the last one, that's why I'm glad to see something innovative.

I agree, there was nothing wrong with the old build and of course it was still in early stages, a few graphical upgrades wouldnt have hurt, but to change the art style to cell shaded, this game fell off my list for now, it would have been a must buy for me but i have other games i'd rather look forward to.

So the art style changed. Who cares? You detractors act as if they brought in Disney to rewrite the entire game into a feel good romantic comedy. What happened to not judging books by their covers?

It's the same game with the same quality. Don't get all weak sister just because it doesn't look exactly like every other UE3 shooter this gen.

umair_s515778d ago

I like the new look, its unique. Checkout some high res. screens, the game is art, if its critically well received, I'll definitely buy this. Potential sleeper hit of 09.

UNCLEFESTER5778d ago

I was interested in this game it looked unique in its story but with the graphics power of PS3 and 360,cell shading WTF it looks downright goofy now

Is that why he has a penis on his face

shutupandplay5778d ago

Haha. Xbox is always used over ps3. Especially in advertising.

Myst5778d ago

No matter what people say I still am looking forward to this (FPS aspect [not to thrilled about] though an RPG mix? Now my attention has been attained.)

I don't think I've ever seen the screen shots before they switched over to this cell-shading, and honestly it wouldn't have mattered a whole lot to me either. Graphics aside I still want to try my hand at the RPG aspects, take a look at several of the weapons, and even try that co-op feature.

umair_s515778d ago

Yes, I love the concept of role playing shooter. Add in millions of randomized weapons, vehicle based gameplay, open world nature, local and online Coop and competitive Multiplayer and a fresh artistic look: this game has great potential.

Despite Borderlands Movie Flop, Series Saw Boost in Sales; Take-Two to Be Selective on Licensing IPs

Take-Two admits the Borderlands movie was disappointing, though it still contributed to the game catalog's sales.

-Foxtrot226d ago

"we don’t really need to break out the contribution from the film because while it was economically positive"

Come on, there was nothing positive about it, it literally bled money...not really economically.

Daeloki225d ago

No there was not. The same way there was no Dragon Ball live action movie, nor an Avatar the Last Airbender live action movie :)

Polish a turd to make a what?!

DefenderOfDoom2225d ago (Edited 225d ago )

So the movie cost 155 million to produce and another 30 million dollars to promote . Borderlands movie brought in around 31 million worldwide . So basically, the Borderlands movie was a 154 million commercial for Borderlands video game franchise.
