Two Worlds to Be First Free MMO On 360

The upcoming Xbox 360/PC MMO Two Worlds is putting a lot on the table - you might say it's bringing the world, by bringing the proven formula of last year's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to the oh-so-hot right now massively multiplayer online genre.

Although it's recently been delayed, Zuxxee Entertainment revealed to UK based Edge magazine that they won't be following the trend many MMOs such as World of Warcraft have created by offering up multiplayer action free of charge.

Phantasy Star isnt free... you have to pay a subscription fee I belive.

Anyway, re: Two Worlds - That's great news for the 360 version as many people will argue they shouldnt have to pay any extra since they already pay for their Gold Membership.

I sit on the fence as I can also appreciate that the money goes towards a better gaming experience such as extra content and generally expanding the game world.

Either way it's shaping up to be an awesome game. Looking forward to more info on it as it develops.

Perhaps they are loosly defining the term MMO. I mean it will be an Online RPG. Even a Multiplayer Online RPG. But if you can only quest with 8 other people I wouldnt say that it is Massively Multiplayer. Unless the delay is because they decided they could actually open that up.

In either case, it looks like it will be a fun game even if its not MMO...or especially if its not.

From the story "It’s very cool to see a developer more for the people, rather than for their wallets, and hopefully it will be a continuing trend on the current generation of consoles. "

Trust me, they are in it for their wallets. Its just they are taking a different angle.

They really need to get their terms straight. This game is not an MMO. MMO's involve 100s and 1000s of people playing in a persistent online world. Two Worlds is not a persistent online world. It's multiplayer component is just like the majority of multiplayer games out there.... quick servers hosted by the player where the world is created specifically for the game/room.

Something like GuildWars? That sucks.

Think more like an 8-man Co-op game. There will be no massive gathering of players, just you and a few buddies.

So it's just a standard multiplayer game. That's a hell of a lot better than those MMORPGs we've got running around.

No where in the article does it state that the game is only 8 player online.
I am sure the developer would not mistake like that to say its an MMO then put in only 8 players.

What defines the minimum number of online players for it to be an MMO?

Huxley I believe is 500 players online at once from what I remember reading and this is an MMO.

but all previous information was it was a limited online experience. But it did get delayed so maybe they upgraded.

Two Worlds is being developed for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms. The game's complexity, dynamics and mechanisms have been designed to appeal to both markets and the steering takes advantage of mouse and game-pad features alike.

In the past previews they clearly stated 8 person multiplayer. I suggest searching IGN or other news sites for the exact article.

Further, beyond limitations on # of players at a time, it's not a persistant world. The world only exists for your room, your game.... your 30 minutes to how-ever-long one game session takes.

MMO's can be defined by the method in which games are hosted (on top of the shear volume of players in 1 world). They are hosted externally, independant of the players and they are hosted 24-7 in a permanent environment that (aside from server crashes and updates) never goes down.

Two Worlds (from everything the previews have said) is not a persistent world for multiplayer.
