Kitase: Final Fantasy XIII Is Identical On Both Systems "Where It Matters"

In a recent interview, Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII has not effected development in any way. Speaking at GamesCom, Kitase said:

"The important thing for us is that the game runs smoothly on both systems. We have made changes to the game, but nothing because of one system specifically – all changes have been made to get maximum performance."

When you have to repeat the same thing so many times it's because it's a lie. =(

Square have said that same statement on every interview related with FFXIII and that's very sad... What are they fearing? Anyway, thanks Micro$oft, you really are making the industry better... Not.

Now developers don't make their games complete to then offer these other things as payed DLC. But people are so stupid... The Wii it's the #1 console so, what can one expect. >_>

No FanS Land5358d ago

not so confident about "where it matters".

On another note: three discs? Lost odyssey took 4 and by judging FFXIII's quality, sorry kitase but you'll have to supply a 4th disc IMO.

ATY5358d ago

From the poor quality of what they have shown so far Square is using another generic PC based crossplatform engine.

So sad. Square use to be one of the companies that you would marvel at their technical prowess years ago. Now they have completely given that up.

All that just because Wada decided he cared more about payoffs from Microsoft than gamers. If Square still actually cared about gamers they would have finished the amazing custom next gen PS3 engine. THEN worried about how they were going to gimp the game down to the wimpy 360 graphics hardware and stupid DVD format.

Blaze9295358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

Still upset huh? Lol...but still gonna buy this game I bet.

Anyway, for a company that said they will use "most of the PS3's power" and is aiming for 3 disc on the 360 where both versions are identical...that's a little hard to believe; of course, no one really believed that to begin with.

I dont care though, still a day 1 purchase to me. RPGs arent about amazing visuals (which this game STILL has and looks great) but instead good storylines. This game will still kick ass.

Cold 20005358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

and avery one else. Dont take it in bad way

BUT PLEASE STOP B*TCHING ON THIS GAME. Have you seen the trailers lately ? The ingame gamepley and stuff ? It looks increduble.
Do you want to to say that it looks bad ? Underwhelming ?
I mean just look at this: http://www.gametrailers.com...

and the 360 version: http://www.gametrailers.com...

Just let the game come out and then we can judge, I have to admit the story doesnt look that cool at all for the moment but lets just wait and see.

And if its on 3 discs and not 4 then let it be ! If that means worse quality well then SE are going to pay for it. But Im sure they know what theyre doing. They know whats going on in their studios, not us.

I just dont understand why so much hate for FF13. If its because they went multiplat well its time to get over it and move on !!

RememberThe3575358d ago

I don't know where this "generic" crap is coming from but it's not from what we've seen so far.

It is time to get over the fact that it is not exclusive, and appreciate what this game is going to be.

Besides, PS3 fanoys still have FFV13 to be happy about, and that game looks a bit better.

StayHigh5358d ago

It will come on to 4 disks on the 360..In my mind JRPG is about visual.

TheBand1t5358d ago

We need a new Final Fantasy Tactics. One with current gen graphics.

Game13a13y5358d ago

think the 360 version also won't be having japanese VO due to limit of disc space.

Sarcasm5358d ago

I think the game looks good.

But if you read between the lines

"Where it matters"

That means they definitely cut something out for one version. Not sure which.

Cold 20005358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

Then why does FF13 look 10000000 times better than WKC ??

I mean WKC doesnt have the 360 to hold it back.

PS3 fans are so happy with WKC whereas they're unhappy sith FF13 is more appealing in almost every aspect ?

Time to cut the hypocrisy.

ShabzS5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

the 360 versions wont be coming to japanese markets so a japanese vo wont be necessary... but i think i remember reading somewhere that the vo was a problem in some other game coz of dvd... was it star ocean ? i dont remeber.. regardless in ff13 its pointless...

ATY5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

LOL!

At the people talking about how 'great' FFXIII looks. Yes Square does have the pretty CGI that you think was in game.

The only actual in game, non-CGI, footage is almost laughably bad. Virtually no dynamic lighting, primitive shadows, popping character animation, basic particle effects.

Even the junk Capcom is putting out with their lowest common denominator crossplatform PC engine is looking better than the actual in game footage Square has shown.

And it shouldn't surprise anyone. Everything Square has put out this gen has been a technological cluster F.

Edit:

LOL! @Loxhart

Loxhart5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

Final Fantasy XIII demo says hi.

Edit: Please if you actually played the demo then you wouldn't say that.

Game13a13y5358d ago

why the disagrees? its not like i'm the one who made it that way. but anyway, think many people actually prefer japanese VO. i know a few people gonna play it in japanese VO with english subtitles. or may be i'll play it once in japanese, then play it once in english too.

Nitrowolf25358d ago

so don't allot of other PS3 games. But here is the thing.FF13 been in development for years. And then they decide to reveal its going Multiplat. For me, it was ok just another great game to enjoy. But after seeing some screens you can notice that the graphics have been toned down. That is never good to see after hearing of it going Multiplat. WKC could have had better graphics that the truth, but it hasn't been in development as long as FF13 and no one truly expected it to be an extremly hi graphic game like they do with the FF series.

iamtehpwn5358d ago

HMPH.
Then I'm still waiting to see FFVII on mah Nintendo 64, Square Enix. ;\

But Really, you'd think at only 3d discs that's some heavy ass texture and video compression, that's gotta leave some damages somewhere.

Kitase unlike another developers though, is at least admitting they'll probably look slightly different in side by side comparisons due to different hardware.

TheBlackSmoke5358d ago

The issue is not that they look the same, its what has been compromised to achieve that.

I could not care less if the game is on 360 or not, but by god squeenix better of not gimped the ps3 version or cut content in order to make them equal in every way.

I know when you make a mulitplatform game you aim for parity between all versions, but in this case MS decided to yet again be on the "me too" bandwagon and jumped on board late in to the PS3 versions dev cycle.

If the PS3 version has been downgraded squeenix should be ashamed, you decide to come late to the party so its too bad if your version is inferior. PS3 exclusives speak for themselves in terms of quality so FF13 should be aiming to compete with PS3s best, not settling for mediocrity. We will see in due course if thats the case.

Game13a13y5358d ago

i totally agree with you on this one. if SE gimped down the PS3 version because of M$, i really hope some executives from Sony come out and bad mouth about M$ to give them some negativity. Sony has been too quiet if you ask me.

ThanatosDMC5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

So it's not gonna push any graphical bar is what he's saying? Oh well, i just hope it's more story driven than FF12... i just stopped playing that game since there wasnt much of a motivation.

If gameplay of an FF game ever came out like Godhand.... i'd buy it!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

AAACE55357d ago

It seems like people are still under the impression that if a company doesn't use all 50 Gb's, they aren't using all of the Ps3's power.

Tell you what... alot of the games you played and loved last gen didn't even use up half of the space provided, with most games using aroung 25-33%! Only a certain few actually use up the full disc for Ps3 this gen.

If you want to judge something (That hasn't even come out yet), based off of space used... You need to get your priorities in order! I like what SE have shown me so far, so as long as I get what they showed me, i'm OK with that!

Plus, now that I have both systems, I can buy which ever one I want!

FF XIV might not be a PS3 exclusive after all.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsS...

Sony boss Jack Tretton may have spoken a bit too soon when he said that Final Fantasy XIV would be exclusively on PS3. At today's Square Enix press conference, senior VP Shinji Hashimoto stated that the company is "considering all options" for platforms, and noted specifically that Microsoft hardware is a possibility. Though the game is only planned for PlayStation 3 and PC right now, the company is clearly open to putting it on the Xbox 360.

But if Microsoft knows anything about an impending announcement, they aren't telling. VG247 reports that Xbox boss Aaron Greenberg said, "my understanding is that that is not exclusive." When pressed, he commented "that would be a good question to ask Square." While nothing is set in stone yet, it does seem strange that Jack Tretton made the claim during yesterday's press conference only to have it countered so quickly. While it was a huge coup for Sony when announced, the possibility of it going multiplatform lets a bit of wind out of their press conference's sails.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009...

In an interview with VG247 during GamesCom, Square Enix producer Hiromichi Tanaka said that discussions with Microsoft surrounding its Xbox Live policy are one of the reasons Final Fantasy XIV has yet to be announced for the console. "Because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that's something we're in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement," Tanaka said.

Tanaka also revealed that the phrase "launch timing" was cut out of SCEA CEO Jack Trenton's "Final Fantasy XIV exclusivity" announcement at E3, but it does not mean that the MMO won't see life on the Xbox 360 in the future.

http://www.vg247.com/2009/0...

Ongoing discussions with Microsoft about how Final Fantasy XIV is to work with Xbox Live are partly to blame for the lack of announced 360 version, producer Hiromichi Tanaka told VG247 at GamesCom today.

“FFXI for 360; at that point PS2 didn’t have a hard disc [and] that was really difficult for us, but Xbox 360 had that from the beginning, so that really helped us. We managed to smoothly move onto 360 from the Windows version, so that was very good to us,” said the developer.

“However, for FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that’s something we’re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That’s one of the reasons it’s not going to be launched at that point.”

The “point” being the simultaneous release of the PS3 and Windows versions next year.

Tanaka told us in the same conversation that the words “launch timing” were “cut out” of SCEA boss Jack Tretton’s FFXIV exclusivity announcement FFXIV at E3, and that it “doesn’t mean that we’re not going to have a 360 [version] in the future”.

FamilyGuy5357d ago (Edited 5357d ago )

There's no point in complaining or pointing fingers, I'm buying the game regardless, Day 1 so Square ALREADY has my money. It's not gonna matter if the game looks half as good as the demo even i really can't see myself passing this one up no matter what happens.

For mass hysteria's sake I hope the PS3 version is the "better looking" version by any significant or insignificant margin because I would hate to see THIS site if the opposite becomes true. Just imagining all the complaining PS3 side takers saying "360 gimped us again!!" and 360 side takers claiming "As usual, the 360 version looks best. The cell who?"

The PS3 version looking "better" would be something like "See, that's what happens when you compress to the umth degree". and "Well it's really just because the 360 version was the port this time." <--maybe a little different.

Hopefully I'll be too busy enjoying the game to read any of the non-sense.

EDIT:

Hey "wall of text" pasting dimwit above me"
He said FF"v"XIII, NOT FFXIV. We've ALL known since E3 that FFXIV wasn't exclusive and probably coming to the 360 at a slightly later date. The first link you quote is even from "06/03/2009". You have not presented any "new" information so you and your wall of text can go now...

nycredude5357d ago

Graphics? Forget about the graphics. The way Square Enix has been going, I'm just worried about them making a decent game worth playing, FF or not. Square Enix hasn't made a good final fantasy game in a while.

andron5357d ago

There haven't been on most JRPGs on 360 before, due to DVD space limitations. That will probably be the largest difference.

I really hope they include a japanese soundtrack on PS3, and don't nix it just to make the versions "similar"...

Well, to be fair, I think Square Enix really is doing everything in their power to make the game run as nicely as possible on both consoles. Would Final Fantasy XIII look better as a PS3 exclusive? Probably. But the fact that SE is trying to treat both consoles equally instead of the usual half-assed effort from other developers says a lot to me.

Saaking5358d ago

It doesn't matter, 360 version gimped the PS3 version. We'll all see by just how much when FF Versus XIII releases. SE is just trying to make them look identical to satisfy MS and keep their big check.

nskinnear5358d ago

He said there's a large possibility that the game might end up on 4 discs. They're just "aiming" for 3.

N4PS3G5358d ago

Identical?! but how? Everyone here knows the 360 is holding FF13 real untapped power on the PS3 and that even thou it looks better now than it did in the 08 build..is obviouslyyy getting downgraded!!

;)

like how ME2 demo is tapping the x360 power?.

RememberThe3575358d ago

You going to have to give some context on that one. It went right over my head. lol

But I always thought the 360 could do more then what we have seen. UE3 is the only thing holding back the 360 from it's true potential.

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972126d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus126d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda125d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B124d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981124d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot124d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda124d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay124d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12126d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay124d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
