$300 bundle = Xbox 360 Elite, Halo 3 and Wireless Network Adapter

It certainly does look like the Xbox 360 Elite model will be dropping to $300, but with a wireless network adapter included?

Now that's even more promising! Having to cough up $100 for wireless gaming on the Xbox 360 has always been a little bit hard to swallow, especially considering that the PlayStation 3 has the functionality built in.

An Xbox 360 Elite bundle has arrive online.

but i have to disagree that the only difference now is a blu-ray drive, firstly thats a mighty BIG valuable difference for lovers of HD movie viewing and non-compressed games, and fees for xbl i believe are a rip off ms need to make xbl free

plus buying batteries and the hardware still has it's erm, challenges.

Chris3993563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

And it's $330 Canadian (not $300, as the articles states - even if you order online from the U.S. you're paying international shipping, so the price is probably about the same). Not knocking the deal, but this is not likely to be a permanent offer. They're probably flushing out the old stock to get ready for the HDMI-less Elites that we saw a while ago. Good time to pick this up, especially with the over-priced wi-fi thrown in for cheap, before they start cutting pieces out of the Elites (HDMI and opitical adapter).

I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like this for the RE:5 bundles. I enjoy the machine, but I wouldn't recommend that bundle to anyone, the damn disc wasn't pressed properly. I went through 2 full exchanges, before they finally allowed me to swap just the disc (as my other 360 games worked perfectly fine in the unit). Finally they gave me a retail copy of the game and all was golden. It's a big problem with those bundles apparently.

Damn... Microsoft is really trying to derail the "Slim".
I choose "Quality over Quantity" any day!

KenGoSONY3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

Sony's PlayStation 3 has better options when it comes to a $300 next gen powerhouse. People with higher awareness will opt out broken systems or out to date machines. I can't help you better, Quality matters first and most, and it belongs to the PlayStation 3 entertaintment system.

Better Future is the Slim

Mario3563d ago

One other thing, 360 is not as powerful as ps3. It'll never get a game like uncharted 2 or gran turismo 5. And talking about gt5, thats proof that bluray is beneficial for games. 1000 vs 400 cars. Sorry dvd

LazyDevs3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

Well if you would pay 100 wireless you are an idiot anyways considering you can get a cable for 100 foot cable for 10 buck's. Why not pay less money and get a more stable connection.

@Chubear
"plus buying batteries and the hardware still has it's erm, challenges."

You mean alot like having to buy something to charge your controller's on the PS3? And don't give me that bs crap of the little bitty 2 foot cord that come's with it cause you can't play and charge with that. And to keep good battery life you need to run your batteries all the way down and then charge them not charge them everytime you use the controller for 30 min's.

theEnemy3563d ago

this is a very nice deal to replace broken your 360!

;)

Kushan3563d ago

"and non-compressed games"

Ignorance. Games on the PS3 are compressed as well. The problem isn't storage space, the problem is loading times. Data is compressed because reading from disk (be it BD-ROM or DVD-ROM) is what takes the longest, so it is actually faster to read less data and decompress it on the fly since the CPU is just sitting idle anyway.
Besides, have you ever heard of lossless compression?

PS3PCFTW3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

The "elite" is still missing:
Brd, Blutooth, Rechargable controllers, Free online, Real exclusives not timed exclusives, silent operation, and most importantly RELIABILITY.

wifi which should have been built-in, in the first place and throwing in halo3 just does not cut it. Honestly, mass effect is a better game... even though its gimped on the 360 when compared to the pc. Maybe they should drop their price to 199.99 and throw a whole bunch of crap in the box.

My conclusion:

gamers with standard sets and those small 17 inch monitors will get a elite.

Gamers with QUALITY home theater setups, 7.1, and huge screens will get the ps3 slim w/ u2, uncharted1, kz2, gt5, warhawk, mgs4, r2. Lets also not forget Sony's blockbusters for next year

Sarcasm3563d ago

"Well if you would pay 100 wireless you are an idiot anyways considering you can get a cable for 100 foot cable for 10 buck's."

Yes, because people who own a house or lives in one, they're wife or gf will definitely let them run a 100ft network cables around the house.

Seriously, you kids need to just stay in school.

TresTrendu3563d ago

If you can not properly run a cable, then maybe you need to go back to school. And WTF does your wife have to do with running a cable? Ohhhh i get your name i see now, that's pretty funny.

Sarcasm3563d ago

"then charge them not charge them everytime you use the controller for 30 min's. "

Wow, if you have to re-charge your batteries every 30 minutes, I cant say much about your IQ level.

There's a thing called "Second controller" that you leave plugged in.

So follow me here... I'm going to go slowly. When... You... Run... Out... Of... Battery Power... Swap... it... with... the... other... controller...

Now that wasn't so hard was it?

I reiterate, please kids. Stay in school.

Sarcasm3563d ago

"If you can not properly run a cable, then maybe you need to go back to school. And WTF does your wife have to do with running a cable? Ohhhh i get your name i see now, that's pretty funny."

It's not a problem running the cable, it's the problem of "What if I have to move the console"

And call me lazy or just downright LIVING WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY, but you're not gonna see me re-running cables every time I need to move my consoles.

2Spock3563d ago

"There's a thing called "Second controller" that you leave plugged in. "

My myself only own 1 controller for each system, my friends bring their controllers when they come over and i do the same when i go over there. And yes it causes and issue for on the PS3. And luckily enough i have 4 rechargeable batteries to use for my 360 controller so i can swap back and forth.

"And call me lazy or just downright LIVING WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY, but you're not gonna see me re-running cables every time I need to move my consoles."

And luckily for me i have a gaming room that i wired for cat 6 cable. Me personally there is no way i would game on wireless to much interference from other thing's and isn't always reliable. But hey not everyone can have a setup like me. Yeah wife moving the furniture around all the time making you have to move your console all the time. Now that last part was Sarcasm. Up tight as you are maybe you need to take a breather from N4G for a bit.

blackpanther253563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

yeah i agree. I got a 360 all the way in the basement and the way my house is you would have to drill a hole to run the cable......i'm not lowering the value of my home for a video game.

I just stuck with bridging the connection to my laptop to play halo 3

Tarasque3563d ago

I do not know if are aware but having your house wired with network add's to the value of your home.

Sarcasm3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

"Up tight as you are maybe you need to take a breather from N4G for a bit. "

Me Uptight? Mwa haha.

I joke most of the time I'm here. Because this whole website is a joke. But then there are situations which I must make a statement.

Look, I don't mind if people don't prefer a wi-fi. Heck, I don't mind if they only have 1 controller.

But I hate false claims and out of this world mentality, like "Why use wi-fi, you can get a 100ft cable instead!" or excuses like "I'd rather have real batteries than use a re-chargeable controller"

Really. Just really.

Sarcasm3563d ago

But going back on topic of this article, I think it's a great move by MS to offer the free wi-fi add-on. Let's just hope it comes to the U.S. and not just a one time promotion from canada.

MNicholas3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

1) $250 for online: $50 every year for online vs free on PS3 and Wii. Let's say you ditch your 360 after 5 years, you would have spent $250 more just on having online play. That's 4-5 full priced games on PS3 and Wii. Put another way, for the price of a 360 Elite with online you can buy both a PS3 & Wii and have online on both!

Elite+Online: $300(console)+$250(online)=$55 0
PS3+Wii+Online: $550(consoles)+$0(online)=$550

2) $250 for a Blu-Ray: Let's face it, Blu-Ray is taking over. The upcoming Transformers 2 Blu-Ray alone is going to justify spending $250 on a Blu-Ray player (as well as a high end 1080P projector, 7.1 audio system, home theater seating with heater/cooled cup holders, and a custom built addition to the house dedicated to watching movies).

$$ saved buying a PS3 instead of 360 = $500

Total blown on home renovations to take advantage of PS3's capabilities = $20,000

Lifendz3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

not only does MS charge an exuberant price for a HDD and online, but they also charged a 100 bucks for a wifi adapter? Wow! Talk about milking your customers dry. I was in a hotel recently and used the Wifi signal to play some games. I guess if I owned a 360 I would've had to pay 100 bucks to do that? That's insane.

I'm glad they're finally including that in the box with the elite but I guess if you bought an elite and then paid for the adapter you gotta feel a little burned right now. And expect MS to include some sort of game in all of it's skus, including the arcade. They're doing whatever they can to get consumers to choose 360 after after that consumer learns that PS3 has a blu-ray player included and is the same price as the Elite.

2Spock3563d ago

"But I hate false claims and out of this world mentality, like "Why use wi-fi, you can get a 100ft cable instead!" or excuses like "I'd rather have real batteries than use a re-chargeable controller"

It is those same views that is causing issues for you. You are looking at it your way only no one said choose this over this. It is being said that ok either pay 100 bucks for wireless or 10 bucks and 30 mins of my time, and the end result is a better connection that cost a 10th of what wireless does. And nobody said a single word about real batteries, my case i had rechargeable batteries from my old digital camera and i was able to use those for my xbox 360. But if i need to charge my 1 and only controller for my PS3 then i have to quit playing to do so. You need to get out of your fanboyish attitude and stop acting like people are attacking you all the time when they are just make valid point's.

MTEC83563d ago

it needs to come to the US for 300, I'll pick up a 360 for this price. For those people who says WiFi is not for true gamers simply don't know what it means to be on the road for weeks and months at a time, gl on finding hotels with a hardwired internet connection.

Game13a13y3563d ago (Edited 3563d ago )

and its showing. first they are beaten by the Wii, and the PS3 Slim is looking pretty strong. but anyone who wants to get a cheap 360 woulda gotten the arcade version already, i really doubt this bundle will make much impact (and it probably never will since it won't make it outside of Canada anyway)

gameplayer3563d ago

I have a two story house and I wired all four bedrooms, the living room, rec room, home theatre room, kitchen and even the garage for less than $100 in materials and that simple act increased the value of my home aswell. Even back when I was still in an apartment, I drilled a 1 inch hole through 13 inches of concrete so I wouldn't be screwed into using wireless for gaming. Seriously, whether you own a 360, PS3, PC or even a Wii, do yourself a favour and run a cable. Trust me, it's worth it.

MNicholas3562d ago (Edited 3562d ago )

which is why the $199 360 Arcade did well. They could afford $199 and then worry about the rest later.

$299 is still a bit more than they can afford and because of that extra $100 they will knowingly end up spending hundreds more to get the Arcade up to par.

This is why places like rent-a-center are so profitable. They can resell a $400 PC for $1500 because their customers would rather make 30 payments of $50 than 1 payment of $400.

Similarly, I know college kids who pay for Xbox online month to month! That's about $100 a year just to play online!

Microsoft knows this and priced the 360 accordingly. As a result they make massive profits on hardware and accessories.

I have a ps3 and a 360 wireless adapter, don't use either anymore because their unreliable imo, rarely do I have connection problems from using a cable.

JOY

IdleLeeSiuLung3562d ago

I see this as a huge advantage, because:

a) The rechargeable batteries I buy, Eneloop, doesn't loose charge as fast as the built in batteries in the PS3 controller. In fact, they can hold more than 50% charge after a year of none-use!
b) The batteries still hold a charge after a month or two of none-use. This is not true for most rechargeable batteries including the batteries in the PS3. They usually loose charge within 1-2 months if not sooner.
c) I can pop out the batteries anytime and replace them. This means I can charge them in advance and they are ready to play anytime. No more wires ever!
d) I can use the batteries for my Wii or anything else.
e) If the batteries goes bad, I replace them with new ones. On the PS3 that means the whole controller has to be replaced or I have to resort to the screw driver.
f) I don't have to have an USB device on, to charge my batteries!

Now on the surface it seems like the PS3 controller gives you better value, but it under performs in the battery department. I prefer to pay a little extra (isn't that what every Playstation fanboi touts?) for considerably more flexibility and value!

Can anyone tell me why I should want built in batteries? To me, that is nothing more than an Apple tactic to get you to re-buy the product before you really need to!

blackpanther253562d ago

It is networked....it was built into the house(in every room). So the there was no drilling for Comcast. I made sure to get all that stuff before they finished building the house. But my
HDTV is in the basement and they did not add anything down there so i would have to drill a hole to get it downstairs. Don't know bout where you leave but in Pa that lowers the value.

But to the main point not everyone can use wired connection. So i just bridge mine

Domenikos3562d ago

This is getting out of control lol... anyway

Better prices = GAMERS WIN

dangert123562d ago

Ok i was told the demo on ps3 are paid for by playsation and thats why there and thats why psn is free Microsoft recover there cost through gold membership seems fair to me always we get things that justify the price in the new xbox exprience sky, last fm,facebook, twitter plus free games like joy ride and 1 vs 100 and if mario kart can get away with the same price as the gold membership(i see it as paying for joy ride) and im going to have a blast on it

Bob Dole3562d ago

You guys know you can buy an external wireless adapter and plug that ho into the ethernet port on the back of your 360 right? Not sure how much they cost but surely it's less than $100.

On Topic: This is a good deal, if they ever brought this stateside Bob Dole would definitely get one.

FamilyGuy3562d ago (Edited 3562d ago )

^Joy ride is just a way to nickle and dime you guys. The game is free but they charge for tracks and some customizations...

Anyways, having built-in wifi as an option is a plus whether you need it or not. Hotels and motels host wifi signals for their customers and if you have to be out of you house for repairs or something it's great to have it as an option. Just because people can do without it at home doesn't mean it's useless and not everyone knows how to run cables all over their house without it looking sloppy.

As far as rechargeable controllers go I can't believe you people are arguing against that, it's pretty ridiculous. Even if the usb cable that came with your PS3 is too short for you to use while gaming buying a longer usb cable is still waaaay cheaper than buying a AA battery charger + rechargeable batteries OR the "recharge kit". I'm not sure why ANYONE that likes to play video games wouldn't have a second controller anyways. Even if you "friends all bring their own controllers" what about if someone else visits and wants to play? It's not only a convenience but it also shows hospitality.

Some of you people are reeeeally grasping at straws with your excuses. The PS3 has all this great, built-in/in the box functionality yet you have to down play it simply because it;s not in your console of choice. You still had to pay for for it whether it be:

Batteries/recharge kit/third-party re-chargeable batteries and battery charger
An ethernet cable of any size because the one in the box was too short
their wifi adapter or some third party work around

You still HAD to pay for things that could've been all included.

More on the main topic:
The deal went down a while ago

You forgot 100 tracks (Forza 3) vs. 60 tracks (GT5). Maybe they should have used some of that space to add more tracks instead of 30 versions of the same cars.

deadreckoning6663562d ago (Edited 3562d ago )

Great Deal for people who want a 360. I just wish that they would put a hardrive in the Arcade and keep the price under $300.

@imnotgoodtenglish- I prefer KZ2 hands down, but I thk ur logic is flawed. How does no one care about Halo 3 when it has just recently sold its 10 millionth copy???

i think it depends on where you live in your house and how close things are to you.

if you have everything spaced out and cable clutter everywhere as it is than yes a wireless network would come in handy. though in most common cases people's entertainment centers are no bigger than 20 to 30 feet, so most can still get away with having a wired connection.

for me, my network use a 15 foot cable, even with that i still have little cable clutter.

well, to each his own :)

lol M$ trying to step up
because they know that the ps3 slim well do a massive damage to their sales

TheMART3563d ago

Depends.

Rapports say the initial extra demand on the pricecut & PS3 slim is 30% extra. To begin with, Sony is world wide about 30% behind month after month. So it just gets on par with the 360 sales.

Second, initial sales are always higher than structural increases. We've seen that with the initial PS3 sales in Europe that were pretty good and then it dropped dead untill the 400 bucks PS3 arrived but then again it was a short spike really.

And its compared to the current 360 position. What if MS does drop the price and include a WiFi dongle etc etc? Be sure, Microsoft will strike back and will do so in time for the Holiday sales. Between the PS3 and 360 it'll be sure the 360 will rule this Christmas in sales.

Saaking3563d ago

yea, Mart but we also don't know if 360 sales will slow down. Beside, the 30% is for current fat PS3s and in the same report it said PS3 Slim could be as high 50-60% and that right there IS a lot.

Darkeyes3563d ago

"initial sales are always higher than structural increases"... Yup Mart that explains why 360 just outsold the PS3 by a mere 0.1 million in the first half.... And by the way, that 30% is for the Fat PS3 and at a time when the Fat PS3 supplies are drying out through out the world.

Mark my words mart.... PS3 will outsell the 360 this holiday season... You can bookmark this if you like. The pre orders are through the roof... GT5 might land (90% confirmed) this holiday means PS3 pwns 360 in Europe.... FF13 land in Japan so it pwns 360 then.... US will be great as well...

DelusionalSonyDroid3563d ago

Sony will be ahead of M$ and 3fixme by July 2010. FACT.

Times up M$ bots.

PS3 has won.

hahaha poor M$ bots just cant stop being the losers this generation.

FlipMode3563d ago

oh geez this guy again.

TheMART3563d ago

@ Darkeyes

Strange. I've heard that exact same comment for the Christmas sales of 2006, 2007 and 2008. And every year again the PS3 has been outsold by a large margin.

With the current recession people will choise a 179 bucks Arcade even over a 299 PS3. Most racefans already got tired waiting for GT5 and played Forza 2. Many will jump in with Forza 3 + a 179 Arcade or an Elite when the prices drop.

You may bookmark this indeed, because we've seen what MS has done the last years to own @ CHristmas. Mark my words, Christmas 2009 will be the same as CHristmas 2006, 2007 and 2008. And PS3 fans will be crying like every single year.

But, did they actually do ''massive dmg''?

NO.

Do you know why?

Because sh!thead Sony loyalists like you are always wrong.

People need to listen to me more.

I'm the one with the brain.

MGOelite3563d ago

they may not have sold well (except mgs4) but they are still better games than 95% of the 360s libary

Saaking3563d ago

because MS countered Sony's momentum a price cut of their own. The PS3 was beating the 360 until MS desperately cut the price. Imagine what a 299 PS3 will do.

TheMART3563d ago

Ah right, something like a desperate price cut on the PS3 in Europe after 6 months on the market to 400 Euro?

The 360 dropped about 50% of its price in about 4 years, while the PS3 did in 3 years 50% cutting the price.

Whats more pathetic now?

And you say this 299 pricepoint will matter. What if the arcade will get 139 or 149 bucks and the model with HDD (premium or elite doesn't matter) 199 to 229 bucks?

Sorry dude, people will buy the cheaper alternative that does the same as the competition and in 98% of all multiplats have the better version.

If I take it to K-Mart(where I bought it), lie and say that something is wrong with it, do you guys think I can go exchange it for the elite since I paid $299 for the pro and now the elite is same price.

Edit* Didn't realize this was for Canada only, but anyhow, isn't the Elite going down to $299 anyway? So my question still applies.
