PS3 Slim a lesson in hardware design

Sony Corp.'s new Playstation 3 Slim represents not only a new form factor for the hardware, but a lesson in design for the electronics firm. Gone are the excess trims, bulk, and gloss of the former PS3, and in is a smarter, economical, efficient design that should prove more popular than its heftier predecessor.

The old PS3 was born in the economic boom and it shows. It's bloated, showboat appearance received praise as an impressive piece of technology. But behind the curves was an uneconomical, unrealistic piece of hardware to drive mass market sales.

Micro could learn a thing or two.

PS3PCFTW5386d ago

lol they tried to already.

obviously, they failed

Godmars2905386d ago

They took out the HDD, and like the first, gave no real consideration to media unless they had direct control. At extra costs to the consumer.

Guido5385d ago

Too bad they more than likely won't bother to learn from the superior PS3 slim.

Micro should try to reverse engineer, the insides of how a full function console is built. BUT they will eventually fuk that up too. Sony kings of hardware, kings of software (well game software that is).

Raf1k15386d ago

Being primarily a software company I doubt if MS has the people with the know-how to be able to reverse engineer any hardware let alone something as complicated as the PS3

slim looks soooo sexy if u are looking at it from the front.. I WANT IT..

im thinking of trading in my old 60 gig for it because the slim runs better. 250 watts compared to like 380 watts? DO WANT!!!

blind-reaper5386d ago

nah I honestly would keep my 60 just for the RC's sake (that and I think it looks better than slim)Still I'm buying a Slim (but I will need a PS2 to play my PS2 games and Silent Hill that its f'up in PS3, stupid annoying noise)

imnotgoodtenglish5386d ago

its wider than the the current ps3 which is stupid they should have a HUGE ASS power brick to make it look sleeker and smaller.but yeah sony is good at hardware i must say.

Sibs5386d ago

The slim ps3 doesn't have a power brick..

Unless you are saying there should be one, which I disagree with. I hate those things.

Tarmgar5386d ago

More cushion for the pushin'?

cryymoar5386d ago

So that when someone loses the brick they have to shell out $50+ for it?
No.

I have to say I have the oringial launch PS3 and upgraded the HDD to 500GB (voided warranty). I can't wait until the PS3Slim comes out because at $299.99. Better newer CELL processor, smaller, lighter, energy effecient, with the majority of the same features my PS3. I might as well pic it up and take out my old HDD and just use the new slim (no warranty voiding now). I'll just wait a month or 2 before I buy wait until all the bugs are out.

DlocDaBudSmoka5386d ago

not on the fat ps3. sony allows you to change them. read the manuak that came with the system.
