IGN: GC 2009: God of War III Progress Report

IGN writes: "The game already feels fast and ferocious, but I'm actually a bit concerned with the visuals at the moment. Sure, God of War looks really good when you get up close and personal, but there are moments, as Kratos runs about slashing skeletons, where I find the art style to be very generic. Perhaps this is due to the visual style of the particular level, or maybe the God of War formula isn't quite clicking with me yet, but sometimes I just don't see the appeal.

But that doesn't matter right now. This demo build could just be really old. So move along".

Another fine example on how sites like IGN, Gamespot, and 1up hire people simply because they have a Journalism degree, but no gaming experience whatsoever.

O please shut up. Ryan Clements is huge PS fan, he is on podcast Beyond. US that listen it regularly know that he is not into GOW, he didn't finish first two games, he just doesn't like them, so i am not worried by his comment.
It is his opion people, no big deal.
If someone tells you that your girlfriend is ugly but you find her attractive and good looking, are you going to listen to them? Since you know someone has different opinion than yours?

From what I've seen of the game, it just seems that some of the settings are bland, like the textures aren't there yet.

Kinda like in Halo, how you are always in they always put you in these huge environments that aren't very detailed, you can't interact with them or anything.

As far as GoW3 goes, I was more impressed by the number of enemies on screen, the flying scenes, those look bad ass, and the huge titans hulking around in the background were also impressive. I think that is going to set this game apart from Dante's Inferno.

But yeah, IGN really doesn't know what they are talking about 1/2 the time. The voted Alan Wake the best looking action adventure game this year, and then they posted an interview with the devs where they talk about how its supposed to be more of an anti-action game.

Is zoomed out most of the time. That being so, you won't be able to see all the intricate details the majority of the time.

But whenever there is a close-up, like the Helios head rip, you can rest assured knowing the details will be so good... you just might puke. ;)

Which was actually first shown around February on IGN.

So this build is actually REALLY old.

"This demo build could just be really old. So move along."

Then why would you name the article a Progress Report if you don't know how current the build is?

took the words right out of my mouth.

raztad3763d ago

God of War GENERIC? Wow that is news for me :D

I think the guy who wrote this piece should have worded it better. I understand the writer though, those moments when the camera is far from Kratos dont look that impresive but then GoW is more than just a few minions, GoW is epic. I'm sure GoW3 will OVERdeliver.

BTW, this is not a progress report, just a hands-on impression.

StanLee3763d ago

The writer didn't choose his words carefully but I agree somewhat with what he's saying. I had the same response when I first saw the gameplay videos for God of War III. It's really God of War II in HD. The art style, scale and enemies just seem familiar. That's not the games fault. The hardest thing to do is top yourself. So it's all less impressive.

graphics i have seen looks like artwork/painting. I can't believe IGN said the graphics are not that good. To me at least the shots i have seen looked better than Uncharted 2. Or were those shots fake?.

PotNoodle3763d ago

I wish IGN would start getting the right people to do hands on with these games.

First they had a guy who had no experience with Gran turismo doing the GT5 hands on and now this?

I respect his comments on the stance of a new comer, but this isn't what hands on articles are about.

Unbiased13763d ago

I agree on this, he is not right dude to do preview on GOW3 since he didn't like first two games, so he doesn't appreciate it like rest of IGN PS team. He is part of that team, he is probably biggest PS fanboy on that team, so i don't want to read comment like one that first guy posted.

callahan093763d ago

Yeah, seriously, I'm starting to understand why people always say "you can't spell ignorant without IGN."

Unicron3763d ago

That's why no one should really listen to anything opinion based in the gaming media world. If they ARE a fan, then they are "biased." If they aren't a fan, then they have no clue what they are talking about.

That's why demos rock.
