Most Videogames Remove Physicality From Traditional Play

Unless you're playing one of those new-fangled fitness games for the Wii, you're not going to get anything resembling exercise while playing videogames.

An article in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine suggests that the problem may be that most video games are just a "playlike" activity. Original forms of play, the article says, were physical - and crucial to development. It wasn't until 5000 years ago, with the creation of the first board game, that sedentary play was introduced to human culture.
