ARS Hands on: Moonlight 2.0 beta a major step forward

Novell has announced the availability of the Moonlight 2.0 beta release. This version of the open source browser plugin brings compatibility for Microsoft's Silverlight 2.0 rich Internet framework to the Linux platform.

The Moonlight project was launched by Novell in 2007. Microsoft has officially endorsed the effort and is supplying documentation, test cases, and other technical resources. Moonlight 1.0 was released earlier this year and provides compatibility with Silverlight 1.0 content including support for video playback. After the Moonlight 1.0 release, the developers turned their focus towards the specification for Silverlight 2.0 which includes the .NET Common Language Runtime and a subset of the Windows Presentation Foundation framework.
