Elite 360 No Longer Ships With HD Cables

Luke Plunkett from Kotaku:

If you plan on picking one up in the future, you won't be so lucky, as several GameStop employees have told us new models of the hardware hitting stores across the US (new box pictured) no longer ship with a HDMI cable. In fact, they don't even ship with component cables either, just some SD composite cables, meaning anyone with a HDTV is going to have to pay a little extra.

Biggunz5359d ago

They probably realized 96% of box owners don't own a HDTV.

GameOn5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

Is that why PS3 don't come with HDMI cables too?

The answer is that Both companies want to save money.

cmrbe5358d ago

MS knows that the bots love it up the ass thats why. I mean, with a failure rate of 54% and only 3% don't like it its no wonder MS can get away with raising the price in UK and removing HD cables lmao!!.

Chubear5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

No it's just common sense. If you have an HDtv you should have an HD cable already or were going to be getting one anyways otherwise you wouldn't have bought an HDtv.

I do find it funny how gamers will never hound an HDtv manufacturer that doesn't include HD cables for their tvs but were on Sony for this. MS was a bit slow on catching on to this one.

The same with headsets. Why would Sony bundle cheap headsets when 1) you can use ANY bluetooth headset on the market and 2) why would anyone actually WANT Sony to present cheap shoddy products just because MS does it?

Kill Crow5358d ago

£3.50 or $5 online ...
no need to get any fancy gold plated bollox either ... odn't be fooled

El Botto5358d ago

Remember that the HD cable was one of the top arguments used by the stupid xbots as proof that xbox is one step ahead of the PS3 (which is obviously a frikkin LIE).

After HD DVD died, its gameless console is losing its foundation from left to right. From once "exclusive" games leaving 360 to join the PS3 family to HD cables disappearing from the package.

Hahaha! OWNED

iamtehpwn5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

slightly disappointing.
I liked the machine coming with the HD cables.

Oh well, Component cables aren't too expensive, so go buy one.
I don't know how much they cost for 360 because I bought a premium, but mine for Ps3 costed $25.

HDMI cables CAN cost much, but you just have to find where to buy them. Never pay The $50 they try to charge you.

glennc5359d ago

it isn't the HDMI cable that is the problem. it's the idiotic optical breakaway adapter. that is where they get you.

Voozi5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

http://www.monoprice.com/ho... is everyone's best friend for HDMI cables. I bought two. One for my PS3, and one for my 360. Works great, only costed me like $5 too :D

JOLLY15359d ago

There they go copying sony again

Double Toasted5359d ago

Do you get 1080p with your 360 using the HDMI cable...

Voozi5359d ago

My TV is 720p (didn't bother for 1080p for 32") but I don't see why it couldn't produce a 1080p signal whether it be native or upscaled.

Immortal Kaim5359d ago

Regardless of how much the cables actually cost, it is pretty stupid not to include HD cables (either HDMI or Component) in the box.

I was absolutely astonished when I opened up my PS3 box and it didn't come with atleast component cables. Now MS are doing the same stupid thing.

I'm telling you now, there are people out there with a PS3 hooked up using the bundled composite cables that think it's in HD...

Tarmgar5359d ago

Haha, component is terrible. Get HDMI please. Get great quality for under $10 at newegg. If you bought an HDMI cable at a retail store, then you wasted tons of money. Overpriced they are.

randomwiz5358d ago

Yeah... i feel sorry for the people who pay $50+ for the HDMI cables made by Sony/Microsoft.

I feel REALLY sorry for people that buy monster cables or their $200 24K gold contacts; triple-layer shielding; gas-injected dielectric HDMI cables

MGSR THE HD VERSION5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

i admit yeah, it is somewhat a stupid thing what ms did, but then again you can find HD cables for cheap nowadays on ebay or a local store, plus if you're a buyer from 07 to now of an HD tv 1080i/p or 720p they usually come with cables to accommodate. in any case it would have been more of a bummer if ms shipped 360s without a controller, so the damage is pretty much petty in comparison.

Parapraxis5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

randomwiz, Sony's HDMI cables are actually quite reasonably priced, 19.99$ on Amazon. XBOX are 59.99$, way too much , but MONSTER cables basically start @ 59.99$ and go up, they are the worst.

There are plenty of places to buy generic HDMI cables that will work just fine.

2Spock5358d ago

Well unfortunately you obviously are not a audio or videophile. Or you just jumped the HDMI bandwagon without really knowing. They pretty much perform exactly the same. Here is some links to brush you up on it.

Microsoft Xbox 3605358d ago

I bet you'll see the same bunch of people who bashed Sony for not including HD cables support this now that 360 doesn't include one.

LazyDevs5358d ago

"Haha, component is terrible. Get HDMI please."

I love when people make them self's look so stupid making this comment. When they pretty much are the exact same. Maybe you need to do some reading before blurbing out. You read those links to the above poster.

dirthurts5358d ago

I switched from component cables to HDMI. There is a difference, and it's noticeable. But it's not huge. A little sharper, a little better color. Enables upscaling of movies...
But all in all a component cable is not a bad cable. VGA Neither. VGA looks near identical to HDMI. I tried those too. Color is a little different. That's about it.

Now composite cables...those suck.

potenquatro5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

NO.... just....NOOO!!!! I don't care how cheap HD cables are.

It is totally UNACCEPTABLE for PS3 to come without standard HD cables and headset. It is even WORSE for MS to do this aswell. I remember saying wtf when I opened my PS3, and I was vocal about it too. How the hell is MS going to ignore this and do the same? This speaks volumes. HD console not HD out the box? It's like a comedy gone wrong. Are they taking out the headset next?

Well congrats to all the fu<king lame fantards, nut hugging for no reason. You make it easier to ignore REAL gamers in favor of the "bottom line". That's a corporation for ya. Thank you stock holders for wanting your stock to go up .000002 cents!!!!!!

RememberThe3575358d ago

If your going to buy a new system just order an HDMI online, you'll get a good deal.

And stop bitckering about which brand is more expensive then the other, they're both over priced, so get over it.

Here's what we have:
PlayStation: $43.99 http://www.amazon.com/PlayS...
XBOX 360: $41.49 http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-...

Generic: $0.05 http://www.amazon.com/Hdmi-... (and it has a better rating them both)

IdleLeeSiuLung5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

THEY DID!

@LazyDevs
You might be able to post links or what not (I didn't read those suggested), but it was pretty damn clear that there was a visible difference on my Sony TV between component and HDMI. Could be something else than the cables like the connectors, but there was a significant different. It was blurry and the color was washed out, so much so I switched back!

dragunrising5358d ago

I don't recall my PS3 having HDMI or Component cables either...Not an excuse however.

The reason why they are taking out the HD cables is in order to drop the price of the Elite to $300. 360 is getting a price cut in order to compete with the PS3 Slim.

FamilyGuy5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

As far as the PS3 itself is concerned the HDMI cables make a HUGE difference in what is seen. Do you have a PS3? You could test it yourself, i'm not sure why sony designed the system this way but they did.

At the very least, an HDMI cable is a lot cleaner looking/more organized and efficient than component cables simply because it's one cable line, not a five split.

Someone asked me for a quality HDMI cable once that was still a good price and comparable to what they saw in the stores and I found them this

http://www.monoprice.com/pr...

Checkout the large picture
It's extremely comparable to monster cables. Monster actual selling point is their life time and free upgrade warranty. You buy one and you'll never have to re-buy it is why they charge so much.

Highwayman5358d ago

Actually. What everyone could do, those who own an HDTV is just buy a VGA cable. The picture looks just as good as the HDMI and with the VGA you remove a lot of input lag due to the fact that with VGA there isn't as much post processing.

I don't see why anyone is making a fuss about it. Sony never did this. Unfortunately. You had to pay to HD cables. I still laugh when Sony would say you could enjoy HD right out of the box....Oops.

gaffyh5358d ago

As far as I know, Xbox 360 HDMI cables are made specifically for Xbox? so you can't use a normal HDMI cable (someone please tell me if this is wrong). Whereas for PS3 you can use any HDMI cable, paying $20 is just stupid either way. I bought a gold-plated HDMi cable for my PS3 for $5, works perfectly.

Sarick5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

http://www.monoprice.com/pr...

Is under $5 and they work great. Bought 3 of them.

They even come in white or green to match your Xbox

http://www.monoprice.com/pr...

http://www.monoprice.com/pr...

Sarick5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

The last printer I bought didn't include a cable.
The last PC I bought didn't include a restore CD.

They did include standard cables that most TV's support. Back in the NES and SNES days those systems included RF adapters. You could buy the device that would do RED/WHITE/YEllOW. (Always get composite and component mixed up.) Now a days you can't even find RF adapters for Wii 360 or the PS3. I don't mean the converter boxes I mean straight up RF switches for the tv hookup to their respected consoles.

The reason they don't include them is because the majority of tv sets out aren't HD TV's.

It's simple, the consoles come with the most popular inputs. No reason to ship all cables to the customers when only one is needed to attach the system. Could you imagine the price tacked on to a console if it included VGA, RF, Composite, component and HDMI attachments inside the box?

lordgodalming5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

A console without cables is not a big deal for anyone who knows how to shop on the internet. I picked up two HDMI cables at newegg for $6.00 apiece, including shipping. They work great.

darthv725358d ago

I would find it very ironic that MS would remove the HDMI cable and sony to now include it. That little wire was always being used as a point in favor of the 360. How funny.

It also seems odd for them to remove the composite/component combo cable. If true I say bad move. I need to go check out one of these boxes.

If sony announces the slim and throws in either type of HD cable then it will be another point to which MS and sony have now flipped places.

potenquatro5358d ago

I'm not hating for no reason. This never happened in any generation before. Sony was the first console to not include propper vcabbles with the ps3. Now for some reason it's ok to do this. This is lame cost cutting. They can do other stuff to save a penny. Cut back a little on PR. Don't get that new Mrcielago yet, get a GTR this yer.

duplissi5358d ago

oh no! no hd cables.....god the world will now end. big deal hdmi cables can be had for 10 bucks or less online, and you dont need special sony or microsoft ones

JosefTor5358d ago

What sucks is that this will hinder the user experience since many consumers don't know that they should get the high def. cables. Both of my roommates when I moved in were playing their 360's on standard tv resolution on their 40 inch HDTVs. It was a sad sight to see until I corrected them.

Is anyone else sort of frustrated with Microsoft recently? I have been an xbox fan since the original xbox and have been through a lot and finally am starting to get worn down. First... my original xbox CD-Rom drive broke (it was a known problem but Microsoft did not fix their defective console). I get my new 360 and out of 5 of 6 friends I know with a 360... I am the only one who didn't get the RROD. Mine does sound like a freight train and once I could have sworn it was going to blow up as it got louder and louder until I shut it off. Microsoft says this isn't a defect. Lastly, I hate the new UI they have. Blades was so much more user friendly and pretty looking. I got a bunch of free backgrounds too which looked nice. Since the update, I refuse to purchase premium themes or avatar equipment because what is the point? It is a freakin background and a stupid looking character. Has anyone noticed that paying for things is getting ridiculous? Every year on their fall refresh update I used to get excited because I was about to get new features... this year... all the updates deal with something that costs extra money!!! Microsoft is putting all their efforts into these things while they should be putting their efforts into QA, better user experience, and a slim console. All I hear these days are talks about raising the core console price and phasing out the pro. Microsoft needs to get a clue. And project Natal? It doesn't even look that great... why would I want to use my body and pay extra to use it? I thought they would release something like the Wii remote or sony's idea and include it in the console price... nope... wrong there. Maybe a bargain price option for current owners so that more developers would jump on the band wagon? Wrong there again!

Weren't the HDMI cables a big draw of the Elite?

It seems pretty petty to me (although I may just be uninformed lol).

WhittO5359d ago

Yep ! i remember everyone dooming the ps3 because it didnt include a HDMI cable lol - even though you can get them for like £2.99 now.

Godmars2905359d ago

No, they were a good jibe towards PS3 fanboys.

Really odd that MS is taking them away so late in the game. More so when HDTV are increasing in popularity.

Covenant5359d ago

Initially, most people were more interested in it because it was the first 360 to feature HDMI. The black color and large HD were also bonuses.

Those were the factors that drew me to it when I was looking to replace (another) defective Pro...those, and the fact that the Elites were supposed to be more reliable. (So far so good: Almost two years and going strong).

As for the HDMI cable...the one that comes with the Elite isn't bad, but it's nothing special. I replaced it with a Rocketfish one at the first opportunity, and there's a HUGE difference in picture quality between them. So it's no big loss.

But no component cables? That stinks. At the least, lower the price of the cables and the hard drives if they're not going to be standard.

meepmoopmeep5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

yes, i'd like to see those certain extremists say something about this.

you know who you are

:)

but yeah, HDMI and Components arent' too expensive
it would have been ideal coming with Component at least though

duplissi5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

ahem, covenant hdmi is an all digital signal so there is no signal degredation unlike what happens with analog connections :vga, composite, component, and coax. so its stupid to buy expensive hdmi cables expecting better picture because whether you spend 200 or 3 dollars on one it will produce the same picture. although 200 dollar ones should be of higher quality and be able to take abuse.

I remember buying them dirt cheap on the PS4 and then a few days later I read they were delisted. I was wondering why the bundle was price so low and got my answer when that happened.

Sad to say this is one game franchise next to the Xmen that needs a sequel. I use to play the hell out of Xmen Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Was great when my cousin had the OG Xbox play with four other people and then playing online. Great games glad to see it reappear even though I own the discs love the mechanics of this game.

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle3d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal3d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa3d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal3d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.
