Crytek CEO asks GDC audience to kill 'killerspiel' law, won't leave Germany unless forced out

During his keynote address at GDC Europe in Cologne, Germany, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli requested the audience support the petition against the host-country's bill, which is seeking to ban any games in the region "where the main part is to realistically play the killing of people or other cruel or un-human acts of violence against humans or manlike characters." Yerli told the audience toward the conclusion of his presentation: "[This law] means that Crytek will be literally forced out of the country."

They make a game that simulates the destruction of German parliament. The law which is being proposed by these morons is beyond ridiculous.

It totally misses the point. When we're playing games like these we're not thinking that we're actually killing a human being. It's more of a "eliminate target" type of mind set, not a "kill harmless human beings" mind set. The game wants you to go from point A to point B and to take out thing that is trying to kill you. They're not murder simulators. You can start over in vidoegames but not in real life. We know this, we're not morons.

It's amazing how the effects of World War II are not only still being felt today, but have crept into almost entirely unrelated sectors and industries.

In these cases where there is (or is potential for) a blatant violation of adult human freedoms, I really feel for our German and Australian brothers.

as long as you don't show any boobies you are welcome to come to the US, were they could careless how many people are butchered, tortured and killed in the name of entertainment.

fuuny thing is I have always been more entertained with boobies than with killing. Guess I am a strange American.

It's the opposite here in Germany, politicians pee their pants whenever they think about violence in entertainment media, but at the same time we have lifestyle shows showing boobs at 2 pm, uncensored.
