Xbox Gamer Spotlight Not Worth the Price of Fame

Well, this is the price of fame. Whether it be on Xbox Live or anywhere else in the world, if you're well-known and famous, you will have lovers and haters. This is simply reality. Fame in itself is both a blessing and a curse.

@tinman_licks: I'm sure if PSN had a community spotlight feature, those featured will be praised and lambasted just as much.

@TheAntiFanboy. Well I have both systems, but it seems I run into jerks a lot more often on LIVE than PSN. I'm not sure what your experience is, but surely I'm not the only own who shares this opinion. Perhaps it's because the PS3 is a lot more expensive, so more adults buy it. On the other hand, parents are more likely to buy their bratty kids Xbox because it's cheaper. Just a guess. And yeah celebrity is its own reward. hah.

@tinman_licks: I also own both consoles, and these days I play on PSN FAR more than I do on Live, so I feel qualified to answer that yes, there are fewer jerks on PSN (at first glance), but that's because there are fewer users with microphones. PS3's don't come with mic's, 360's do, thus it's FAR more likely to have many voice chatting 360 users than PS3 users. Concerning PS3 users with mics though, even though there are fewer of them, it's still the same proportion; I'd estimate around 2:1 ratio of jerks vs good sports on both consoles.

Example: If 12 players in an Xbox Live lobby for CoD4 have mics, most likely 8 of them will be assholes, which is 2/3rds. Now if there are 6 players with mics on PSN CoD4, 4 of them will be assholes, which is also 2/3rds. Get what I'm saying? It's proportionate. These are pure approximations, of course, but it really doesn't have a thing to do with the PSN audience being "more mature" or anything like that; that's just rubbish. The target audience between both consoles is the same; the PS3 and 360 are both marketed towards the core gaming demographic.

That's my analysis of it. Both PSN and Live have their same number of jerks; just that on PSN, fewer of them have access to the tools necessary to vocalize their idiocy.

I'll also add, I see more kids with PS3's than I do 360's. It's not that their parents won't buy them the more expensive gaming console, it's just that they won't buy them mic's. With PS3, the kid asks for a mic and the parents say they don't need it. But 360 comes with the mic right out of the box, so the parents are like "okay, whatever, use it, idfc".

Also, I'd like to add: Quit stereotyping the gaming youth; they're not all like that. I already mentioned my stance concerning children in 2.1. You should read it.

Well MS and Sony seriously needs to bring down the "ban hammer" on some of these people they ruin the game just as much as hackers do. As point out in the article these people have no fear of backlash they do it cause they are anonymous and think that makes them free to do what ever they like. I promise you if word got out that sony and ms were banning people for this kind of behavor a lot of them would quickly change their tune.

The other problem with XBL and PSN is it set up in a way were you are some what encourged to be negative to others. Most MP games the main goal is to kill as many as the other player as you can. You have no reason at all to be nice to anyone.

Sony made a game called Everquest probably the best MMORPG I ever played. People on EQ are very differnt then they are on XBL and PSN. Everything in EQ requires team work so people are much nicer to each other. Being nasty to people will get you no where and when you need help if you have a bad rep good luck getting it. If the PSN and XBL made games that were much more focus on working together it might help too.

TheAntiFanboy btw I agree the problem is in both psn and xbl. Plus I've seen some of the so called "bratty kids" on xbl behave a lot better the the so called "mature adults" on psn. Some people are jerks and some arent age doesnt change that

firstly everyone should have been reported or wombat can STFU. it obviously is not that bad if he didn't report anyone. nothing is going to change if nothing is done about it. there is nothing learned when there is action without consequences. they are just kids being kids

secondly, what do you expect when you give a voice to a 12 year old. there is a reason they are not allowed to vote, they don't know sh1t about anything and they are too immature to have a normal conversation with adults. they just think they know it all, i know i did.

Also, he doesn't report them for the same reason that celebrities ignore their hate mail; there's just way too much of it. Do you realize how time-consuming it'd be to report each and every player that says something against him? Considering it probably numbers in the hundreds... yeah.

I have to agree he should of reported and made a much bigger issue out of it. I know its time-consuming but if nothing is done about it then this type of behavor will just get worse. Someone need to take a stand and do something about it.
