Nintendo's Wii may get early launch

Nintendo has stated numerous times that its next generation video game machine will be less expensive than the competition. Now it appears that it might be on store shelves considerably earlier than many were expecting as well.

While Nintendo has not made any formal announcements about the launch date for the Wii, most of the industry has expected the machine to hit retail at approximately the same time as Sony's PlayStation 3 (which is set for November 17). Now, industry observers - and insiders - say they expect the system to be available in October, with late September a dark horse candidate.

Good to see the main system I grew up with (8 bit NES) has evolved into the beast it is today!. I look forward to getting my white Wii to go alongside my 360! and it seems to me that Nintendo will launch the Wii earlier than PS3... with sales of 360 nearing 10 million (in the US) and the most wanted Wii (in Japan) is Nintendo showing Sony who they are messing with?

here in the UK there are alot of playstation fans, in my neighbourhood there is a ps2 in every 2 homes so i wont say only japan want it.

Also i wont a wii with mario galaxy and super smash bros mele, i want to see how snake plays.

this is bad for Sony, because if kids are asking their parents for gaming consoles for christmas, not only can they get it sooner than PS3, they will know about it for far longer before christmas time, and their wont be shortages around christmas because of that

With all the tech in the PS3 it will be harder to mass produce so that will mean very spotty shipments and in low numbers at that. With PS3
already being so expensive it may not sell so hot outside of hardcore gamer sales, and also in the small shipments going out for the first half... even if they do sell out. PS3 won't be able to stop the massive growth of sales for both other camps (360 and Wii). With Wii having a lot of appeal and 360's main attractions flooding in, into the PS3's launch. PS3 I don't think have any of their main titles lined up to take such an attack yet! but this will be interesting to see!

I hope to god this is true. Cause I already have my 300$ saved up and its only almost mid july. Im getting Wii on launch day along with Zelda:Twilight Princess.And I cant wait

Nintendo isn't in a race. They just want to relase the console and make a profit from it. That's all. It's not microsoft and it's not sony. Nintendo has its fan base and they're devoted to them.

If nintendo wanted to win some sort of a race with relasing a product they would win. Look at psp vs ds. Ds is winning. By a mile.

People know what they want. Eye candy doesn't work for everyone and nintendo knows that. Nintendo knows that people will buy Wii even if it's next beside ps3 on the counter.

Nintendo has nothing to be worried about :D
